Gx Optimists! I want to bring attention to this nomination process.

The proposal for season 6 code of conduct council got approved via governance in voting cycle 23b, and I’m super excited about being the leader of this team that will play a key role for the accountability of behavior in the collective.

I want to invite all interested people to nominate themselves or share with whom this could be a right fit for their skills and motivation. I want to specially welcome everyone that voted against the proposal or that may have concerns about it, to participate, bring accountability and help us improve. I would love to see this council having a lot of diversity in its members, representing the variety of the community and having different checks and balances to incentivize the most credibly neutral criteria in the deliberation and decision making process on the cases that the group may handle during this season.

Thanks and good luck to all nominees for the election phase!

Congratulations on successful passage of the proposal. :tada:

Can we know the process of completing Gravity DAO’s training and the details on whether it would be possible for any candidate to complete it before Season 6 starts or elections are over in the next voting cycle?

Thanks. Cheers.

Hey yes - it’s recommended for candidates to explore the Gravity DAO’s training module if you’re interested in self-nominating for the Code of Conduct Council. The Council won’t kick off until a few weeks after Season 6.

Yup

Maybe it is a topic that is a bit out of place but in LATAM we have had many problems with the language we use and in the forums we seem to have courage behind an anonymous name to attack people, so I see a lot of value in respecting and having complete information to resolve conflicts so NVL it’s something that we need for every day of our life. The topics left me happy and full of energy, identifying patterns of behaviour and even central ideas in the posts can help to know the real intentions.

There is an online course that can be done in this link at any time. Even when it is designed to be done in 5 weeks, it can also be done in a couple of days.

We also have this playlist from the training done on optimism for season 4 to complement the experience.

There is also a weekly study group hosted by RefiDAO members happening on tuesdays at 11AM EST / 8AM PST / 5PM CET where anyone can join to discuss the content or make questions.

Taking the training is not meant to be a blocker, but a good contextualizaciĂłn about the approach, skills and tools that are desired for conflict management workers, such as members of this council.

Hi everyone, following my participation in the last Season’s Code of Conduct council. I am putting myself forward for nomination in the hopes of advancing the role of the Council as a body accountable to the Token House able to resolve conflict. I trust @juankbell is going to serve his role as the Head of the Council very well, and would be happy to participate in this new iteration. Thank you so much for your consideration!

If so, what was the most impactful learning you took away from this training?:

Many of the lessons were very useful even for day to day life, but the most impactful one by far especially for this role is regarding communications and handling difficult conversations. Even if the content is good, if it is delivered without accounting for the other’s receptivity a common ground cannot be reached.

The effectiveness of this training was especially noticeable in the meetings of the council last season. Despite members strongly disagreeing with each other in some conversations, the conversation always felt safe and civil, as each member would acknowledge each other’s state of mind and would approach the situation with utmost respect.

Please demonstrate any non-Optimism experience you believe is relevant to this role:

My most relevant contribution comes from the development of ParaSwap DAO and the protocol. Actively managing a DeFi protocol and communicating with users requires understanding of one’s community as well as communicating even difficult topics in a clear and civil tone.

Have you previously served in a representative (appointed or elected) role in the Collective? I was elected to the Code of Conduct Council last season. Additionally, I was a participant in the Thank Optimism mission during season 4.

Please outline your contributions, and their impact, to the Optimism ecosystem to date:

  1. Token House Delegate since Season 3: I have had a participation rate of over 80% , delivering votes on different key decisions as well as the reasoning in the forums and Agora.
  2. Mission contributor: Assisted with the mission of creating a contributor framework for Ambassadors in the Thank Optimism mission alliance. The impact can be assessed on the original thread thanks to @Jrocki 's updates: [FINAL] Thank Optimism - powered by ThriveCoin - #70 by Jrocki
  3. Protocol Contributor: I continuously assist with the ParaSwap product, an important aggregation and dev tool on the Superchain. The impact can be tracked direclty on our dashboard
  4. Code of Conduct Council Member: Assisted with the tasks expected from the Council members. The best place to track the impact can be found here: Code of Conduct Council Communication Thread

Please disclose any anticipated conflicts of interest: I am a major contributor to the ParaSwap protocol, and as such, I will refrain in participating in any conflcit that is even tangentially related to ParaSwap. Additionally, I am a non-top25 delegate in Arbitrum.

Have you attended GravityDAO’s conflict resolution training?

In progress; will complete shortly. Also reading “Crucial Conversations: Tools for Talking When Stakes Are High” by Kerry Patterson.

If so, what was the most impactful learning you took away from this training?

Training is still in progress, but the most impactfull aspect so far is how separating people from situations in the conflict resolution process always helps to maintain objectivity and impartiality. This also reduces emotional reactions from everyone and may help create a path to preserve and grow relationships after a resolution is found. Additionally, focusing on the situation helps explore the factors contributing to the conflict and improves understanding.

Please demonstrate any non-Optimism experience you believe is relevant to this role:

  • I am responsible for managing conflict resolution in the Ethereum Monterrey community.
  • I am obliged to follow the CFA Code of Ethics and Standards of Professional Conduct.
  • Prior to web3, I worked at MSCI Inc., where I was part of the Culture and Inclusion Council in my local office.

Have you previously served in a representative (appointed or elected) role in the Collective? If so, please specify which:
No

Please outline your contributions, and their impact, to the Optimism ecosystem to date:

I hold OP and position myself as an ethical, independent member with no conflicts of interest. In ETH MTY, we have conducted meetups to onboard men and women to web3. We had a Base-specific event this year and are planning to conduct workshops on the superchain. I am an Optimism Power DeFi user who received the first airdrop for using the chain. I have been involved in investing in crypto for seven years and actively participate in other DAOs like Arbitrum.

Have you attended GravityDAO’s conflict resolution training?:
Yes

If so, what was the most impactful learning you took away from this training?:
Conflict is not something to be avoided or feared, but embraced as a motor for change & growth. By embracing conflict & tools for constructive conflict management like transformational platforms, communication, active listening & mediation, we can develop resilient DAOs, ecosystems & protocols in web3. Effective conflict management is essential to the success of the web3 movement since conflicts are inherent to human nature & have occurred throughout history. Effective conflict resolution is ultimately a journey of the heart which must be at the foundation of the technology & tools we build to create an equitable internet & bright future for all.

Please demonstrate any non-Optimism experience you believe is relevant to this role:
