  1. I’ve been part of the govNERD program since it started, which has helped me build and show off a lot of the skills listed in the eligibility criteria.
  2. Last season, I was on the Grants Council, and it was a really eye-opening experience. I learned a ton and got familiar with the tools we’ll be using again this season. That experience made me want to double down and focus completely on the Grants Council this time around. To make that happen, I’ve stepped away from other roles so I can put more time and energy into this, including diving deeper into DeFi and Data Analytics to do more specialized work. I’ve always worked well with a team and had great communication with the Lead, Ops, and other members of the council in Season 6. I’m confident that will only get better this season.
  3. On top of that, I’ve helped many teams and builders by providing feedback, guiding them through the grant or Retro Funding application process, and answering questions about the Grants Program. I’ve become someone people feel comfortable reaching out to when they have questions about OP Governance, and I want to continue being that kind of resource for builders looking to grow the Superchain. This time, I won’t just wait for questions to come my way—I’ll take a proactive approach and reach out to the teams that should be on board.

Jrocki Optimist Profile

Jrocki (Jesse) Eligibility Criteria for GrantNerds:

gm, very excited to be applying to become a GrantNerd this season… After leaving the Optimism Foundation earlier this year to begin participating in governance again, I was elected to serve on the Grants Council during Season 6 as a mission reviewer.

During my time on the Grants Council I put a special emphasis on community outreach (Twitter and Farcaster) and tested different strategies like putting our Mission Requests on BountyCaster for visibility.

During my time at the Optimism Foundation I was a contribution manager for the Ambassador program and hosted various events like Demo Day. I am no longer at the Foundation but I do try to keep Demo Day going as it gives projects building on the Superchain a chance to get in front of a larger audience.

*As you may notice there is a gap in my governance participation for seasons 3, 4, and 5 due to the fact that I was an employee at the Optimism Foundation and was therefore restricted from participating in governance during that time period.

As part of the Optimism governance decentralization experiment, I was part of the first generation of guest voters in the Governance tooling and infrastructure category, which allowed me to get to know even more closely the projects that are really making an impact in Optimism and to rate them according to their onchain results. Details here.

I participated in the govnerd program path collaborating in the retro funding 5 and 6 in a participatory way in the promotion of each retro in the forum, answering questions and answers from the builders and also recording a video of the step by step to apply. Also, I want one of the 3 people with more contributions in the season 6. Details here

Please link to any contributions that demonstrate you meet the eligibility criteria outlined in the Charter for the specific Grants Council team you’re applying for:

I am excited to apply for the GrantNerd role at Optimism. With deep experience in governance, grant programs, and ecosystem development across the blockchain space, I am confident in my ability to help grow and refine Optimism’s grant initiatives to achieve Superchain TVL objectives.

My traditional background is in Finance, where I spent over 10 years as a portfolio manager for a $1B hedge fund. However, my passion really lies in Web3, where I’ve been active since 2017, first as a trader, then as a DeFi power user, and then finally as a DAO and Ecosystem operator and advisor.

My DAO journey began as a core contributor at SquiggleDAO and Fingerprints DAO, where I developed a solid foundation in DAO operations. I later founded Mad Forrest, a Governance and Grants consulting firm, where I advised numerous Web2 and Web3 companies on securing grants and building governance structures. Notably, I partnered with Halborn to establish their DAO and grant functions, including successfully introducing them to the Optimism Grants Program, where I pitched and secured their role as a whitelisted auditor.

Currently, I serve as the DAO and Ecosystem Lead at Sherlock, where grant programs are a central focus. I have helped Sherlock operate within existing grant programs (including extensive work with the Optimism Grants Program and Grants Council) while also supporting other ecosystems in establishing new program with Sherlock’s assistance. I have guided dozens of builders through grant applications for Optimism and other major ecosystems like Arbitrum, educating teams on requirements, streamlining their processes, and fostering alignment with ecosystem goals.

Beyond managing grants, I prioritize engagement and collaboration. I regularly pitch grant programs to prospective applicant teams, emphasizing mutual benefits for both builders and ecosystems. My approach to feedback is solution-oriented, ensuring applicants receive actionable insights to strengthen their proposals without overstepping into product design.

The Optimism Grants Program’s vision aligns closely with my experience and passion for ecosystem growth. My familiarity with its processes, combined with my track record of successfully navigating and enhancing grant programs, positions me uniquely to drive impact as a GrantNerd. I look forward to the opportunity to contribute to the success of Optimism’s builders and the broader ecosystem.

Thank you for considering my application. I would be thrilled to discuss how my skills and experiences align with the role.
