Optimism Español - General Communication Thread

Presentation Optimism Español

TL,DR

Presenting Optimism Español team, mission, vision and objectives.

Introduction

Optimism Español is an open and collaborative community dedicated to promoting the adoption of Optimism by sharing information about its technology, ecosystem and governance processes in Spanish. Our goal is to reach all LATAM citizens and Spanish speakers in general, so they can learn about the benefits of this Ethereum scalability solution.

History

Optimism Español was born in May 2022 by the hand of some contributors and members of SEED Latam, enthusiasts of the Optimism ecosystem.

We first started with translations in Mirror, creation of original content, Twitter Spaces, and constant activity on the Optimism Discord server, specifically in the channel dedicated to Spanish language speaking. Step by step we grew and took a more active role trying to represent the values of the Optimism Collective in the Spanish-speaking community.

At the ETHLATAM conference in Bogota, Colombia (one day before DEVCON VI), where over 1800 people attended, we gave a workshop, talked about governance in a panel and spent the whole day at a stand representing Optimism’s values, capturing the attention of the people who attended the event.

We also took the Optimism Vision to BITCONF in Buenos Aires, where we spoke about the Optimism Collective and the governance system in front of more than 50 people.

We not only organize face-to-face events, but also virtual events such as the workshop for developers with WakeUpLabs, where +20 developers attended during 3 classes. Soon we will upload the metrics of the workshop.

During this time we have done a lot of activities, preaching the Optimistic Vision, both virtually and in person. You can see much of our work in this RPGF2 post here and in the 2022 recap posted by @nico here.

On March 30, 2023 under RFPG2 we received retroactive funding totaling 45.9k OP tokens thanks to the badgeholder vote. This gave us a lot of joy and we felt the support of the global Optimistic community.

This funding allowed us to reward our contributors and build a strong team to move forward with our mission and vision: Preaching the Optimistic vision.

What next for Optimism Español?

The funds received via RFPG2 allowed us not only to consolidate the team, but also to add new contributors and roles. It also allowed us to organize a long and medium term plan. Below we will detail the constitution of the team, expenses, mission, vision, our relationship with SEED Latam and our future plans.

The team

Introducing the team and roles:

Some contributors prefer to remain anonymous and we respect their position.

Costs and transparency

We understand that the RFPG2 funds were retroactive, but we decided to only give a reward to our contributors (this was agreed upon) and planned a strategy for the future, setting up monthly payments to contributors. Also, we will periodically upload reports on our work and expenses. We want to be transparent with governance and show results. This is what we have preached from the beginning and we will continue along these lines, demonstrating that our commitment to Optimisim and LATAM is long-term.

However, we believe in transparency and therefore we provide the treasury address and monthly payment costs to the contributors, so that anyone with sufficient knowledge can make an on-chain analysis and verify if there have been any strange movements or theft of funds.

Mission and Vision

We have identified some key points on which we will focus our efforts, based on our mission and vision:

To be the point of contact and onboarding in LATAM for Optimism, its Foundation and its Governance.

Content

What kind of content will we create?

  • Video and animated content where we will explain technical concepts such as Bedrock, the OP Stack and Superchain.
  • On-demand Twitter Spaces to discuss important Optimism Foundation announcements.
  • Articles and content about RPGF and Account Abstraction
  • Translations of official Optimism and OPLabs documentation

Initiative & Alliances

What initiatives and/or alliances will we pursue?

  • Alliance with @Subli_Defi The Optimistic Newsletter, an OP Ambassador to translate their content into Spanish and achieve a wider reach (Live).
  • Generate alliances with OP-based tooling tools, such as Boardroom or Flipside to invite them to Tw Spaces and create relevant content.
  • Workshops related to developers with native Optimism builders.

Governance

What strategy will we pursue with respect to governance?

  • Establish relationships with other LATAM delegates that are aligned with our mission and consequently with the mission of the Optimism Foundation.
  • Generate educational material so that more people and teams can easily access governance funding.
  • Onboarding teams of developers to apply for council grants and missions
  • Attend governance calls

While these are our main objectives to achieve, we may iterate over time. If we see that we can achieve greater impact we will reprioritize the objectives.

What is our relationship with SEED Latam?

Optimism Español was born out of SEED Latam and from the beginning has closely followed the @Joxes delegation. Currently, we have decided to adopt a more neutral stance and become autonomous in order to broaden our vision.

Does this mean that we are separating from SEED Latam?

No, we continue to be part of the SEED Latam ecosystem as an aligned community. Optimism Español will continue to work and collaborate with SEED Latam as it has to date, but it will have its own roadmap built by its members and we will also carry out both joint and separate activities.

Conclusion and next steps

Optimism Español is an independent, non-profit community that works to promote the adoption of Optimism by disseminating information and organizing events. We do not receive funding from any institution nor do we monetize our content. All material generated will always be public and available to everyone, and anyone can collaborate with us. Our communication is neutral and seeks to bring more users and developers closer to Optimism.

Our next step is to be more present in the forum and show our growth with reasonable metrics, supporting other teams and communities so they can nourish themselves with the Optimism Vision.

If you have any questions or doubts, you can contact us through Twitter or any of our contributors.

Optimism Español OP delegation for LATAM delegates

TL,DR

As a community that is pushing for the adoption of Optimism in LATAM, we know that the participation of delegates from this side of the world in governance is important. For this reason, we have decided to delegate 25k OP to 4 delegates from this region: @Gonna.eth , @olimpio , @brichis and @Joxes .

Introduction

At Optimism Español our main mission is to reach all LATAM and Spanish-speaking citizens in general so that they can learn about the benefits and fondness of Optimism. All our decisions and actions will always go hand in hand with this mission, prioritizing the benefit of the ecosystem of Optimism and LATAM.

We understand that governance is a fundamental piece to achieving this mission and we recognize the hard work of delegates, who vote after vote determine the direction that the Optimism Collective should take, which represents a “digital democratic governance optimized to drive the rushed up and sustained growth of a decentralized ecosystem.”

Under this fundamental premise is that we decided to delegate a part of the inactive OP of our treasury to LATAM delegates aligned to the Optimistic Vision. We trust and bet on the management of the delegates Gonna, Olimpio, Brichis and Joxes

How and how many OPs are going to be delegated?

One of our principles is to maintain the transparency of the actions we take with this governance, that’s why we will detail below how we have thought about this delegation of OP tokens.

Amounts

Currently, our treasury contains 41346.28 OP. Our projection is to pay contributors’ salaries month by month, for which we are going to have a large part of the inactive treasury for a long time. For this reason we decided to allocate 25k OP to execute this action, distributed in 4 equal parts.

Addresses

It is public knowledge that we cannot fragment the delegation of tokens from the same address. So, for this we have created 4 new multisig to delegate to the delegates where the funds will be transferred. These 4 new multisig will have the same signers as our main address.

We detail the allocation of funds and addresses:

Considerations

This action is not intended to influence the decisions of the delegates, we believe that decentralization in governance represents a key point to achieve our mission. As we mentioned before, we are a neutral community, that’s why we delegate voting power to LATAM delegates regardless of their current voting power. But we will take into account some important issues to keep the token delegation:

  1. Delegates must be aligned to the Optimistic Vision
  2. If the delegate has been inactive for more than 2 months in voting, we will withdraw the delegation
  3. If Optimism Español’s treasury reaches its limit, we will withdraw 50% of the delegated funds to cover costs and salaries.

We will constantly monitor the participation of these delegates, to accompany them and see that these mentioned issues are respected.

Final

We believe that this is the way to generate a greater impact, we hope that in the future there will be more LATAM delegates participating in this governance and we are ready to help them.

Stay safe and optimistic!

Workshop Series Optimism, an Initiative by Optimism Español, L2 Español and WakeUp Labs

TL,DR

We hosted a three-part streaming series called “Workshop Series Optimism” carried out jointly between WakeUp Labs, L2 en Español and Optimism en Español. In this post we will show metrics and conclusions for this Initiative.

Introduction

Who we are?

  • L2 en Español: A research team dedicate to study Ethereum scalability solutions. Lead by @Joxes
  • WakeUp Labs: A software factorty aligned with the Optimism Vision. They have also submitted to the grant council Builders Sub-Committee and have received funds from the RFPG2. Founded by @gonzaloDEPRECATED @0xMilton and @0xmdh
  • Optimism en Español: About us, you can find information on this very thread.

Why did we do it?

We noticed that there isn’t a lot of quality content about development on Optimism right now. Although some resources can be found online, access and the possibility of interacting with them is scarce. In turn, we decided to create this content in Spanish, thus adding valuable resources that drive growth and interest in Optimism in other communities.

What was our goal?

We seek to generate a meeting point with developers interested in developing on Optimism and making available to the Spanish-speaking community (with a focus on Latin America), quality content. We provide live discussion spaces, to strengthen the knowledge of Optimism and the interest of the community in developing on OP.

This Workshop was carried out in conjunction with WakeUp Labs, since they have the technical knowledge and expertise necessary to ensure that the contents have an excellent level. From WakeUp Labs, its technical leader, with more than 16 years of software development and 3 of Blockchain development, was the one who taught how to develop from scratch on Optimism.

In this part, we want to show impact metrics for each class we host:

Class 1 - April 25th, 2023:

Class 2, May 2sd, 2023:

Class 3 May 16th, 2023:

Playlist - Workshop Series Optimism (complete): https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PL5LoUunXvIgINaVr9iAVF95riQJ--JWa-

Certificates

As part of the participation in the Workshop, everyone who attended at least one of the three episodes received a minted NFT on the Optimism network. This served as an incentive to encourage participation and the use of the Optimism network. We use the minted POAPs to be able to determine the NFTs that we then send to each of the corresponding wallets with the minting of the POAPs.
This is the collection of certificates in OpenSea → https://opensea.io/collection/certificados-optimism-workshop-series-1

The certificates consisted of two versions:

  • GOLD Certificate: all those people who participated in all the classes (minted all the POAPs).
    0a33c7fa80145ccfa623f500df374b58

  • SILVER certificates: all those people who participated in at least one class (they minted at least one POAP).
    21a602778b8a295e2d57819cfab410ac

This is the contract we deployed: UniversalToken | Address 0x3d3025eb5b18736482c5f24a4b4950a0cf3f2f1b | Optimistic Etherscan

Here, we share a brief table with the number of Wallets that minted POAPs.

Conclusions

  • The first class with @Joxes s had the highest attendance. Due to 0xJoxes’ extensive following and influence within the web3 ecosystem, his participation in this workshop helped attract a larger audience.
  • Classes 2 and 3 focused on technical aspects, specifically coding on Optimism. Although the attendance for these classes was lower compared to the first class, it was still considerable.
  • The workshop attracted individuals who were highly interested in developing on Optimism. It was conducted entirely in Spanish, making it one of the first high-quality resources for Spanish-speaking developers interested in Optimism. Additionally, the workshop was led by an expert in development, ensuring its credibility and expertise.
  • We learned that the procces to onboard people to the Optimism ecosystem must be wider than just regular users, there are a lot of people interested on developing and building products in OP.

Thanks to WakeUp Labs and L2 en Español for this wonderful adventure, we can’t wait for the next Workshop Series!

Stay safe and optimistic!

Organizational Changes at Optimism Español

In addition to being an intense month full of activities of all kinds, Optimism Español underwent some changes in its organization. @NicoProducto, who was one of the first to promote Optimism Español, delegated his position as Leader to our great collaborator @Pumbi.

We would like to emphasize that without the great effort of @NicoProducto, all that Optimism Español has generated so far would not have been a reality. He was there from the beginning, when only a few were interested in Optimism in Latin America, and always made valuable contributions to the ecosystem.

Next Steps

This month was a lot of fun and we had many activities. We also had some changes to continue bringing Optimism to all of Latam. We will not slow down in September and will continue working in the same way.

Workshop on OP Stack for Developers in Spanish

After a few months of preparation and collaborating with @SEEDGov, L2 en Español, and Filosofia Codigo, we are proud to present the workshop #OptimisticCode. An educational space designed for developers, aiming to dive into the universe of the OPStack. Over the course of 5 sessions, we will guide participants from the basics to launching their own OP Chain and how to interact with contracts.

The best part is that all the content is entirely in Spanish, and it will be public and free.

This has been made possible thanks to the joint effort of collaborators from @SEEDGov and Optimism en Español, who had the opportunity to participate in the TechNerd program, promoted by @vonnie610 from the Optimism Foundation.

Additionally, we want to extend special thanks to @turupawn from Filosofia Codigo, who spent weeks diving into the study of the OP Stack to ensure top-notch content.

Workshop on OP Stack for Developers in Spanish

As we mentioned a few days ago in this thread, we are pleased to announce that the Workshop IS ON!

During the first part of the class, Hiro from the Optimism Español team introduced us to the theoretical concepts about the technology behind Optimism. We reviewed how an optimistic rollup works, we understood what the OP Stack is, the different layers that compose it, and how this modular technology opens the way for innovative developments. We also delved into the Superchain and its importance in the future of the Optimism Collective.

Then, with the help of Turupawn, we made an introduction to sysadmin and development principles. These concepts are key because they will help us, as the classes progress, to get into the creation of an OP Chain using the potential offered by the OP Stack.

We are very happy with the result of the first class. So far 41 developers of different levels have registered to participate, in addition to several enthusiasts that we are sure will enjoy the Workshop.

It is important to mention that Optimism Español, with the aim of empowering LATAM builders/developers, has decided to subsidize 100% of the costs associated with the development of these OP Chains (setup and maintenance of virtual servers).

This would not have been possible without the support received during the RPGF2 round, which allows us to carry out this type of action in order to continue promoting knowledge about Optimism in LATAM. We are very excited about the RPGF3 round!

You can watch the first class of the #CodigOptimista Workshop here:

Workshop classes are held on Thursdays every week. We hope to see you all joining us!

Next Steps

September was a month with a lot of activities and we are very happy with the result, especially with the great start of the #CodigOptimista Workshop.

During October we will continue with the same rhythm and we will also make a big emphasis on communicating to the entire LATAM community the novel changes that are coming in the governance of Optimism with the introduction of Season 5.

Workshop on OP Stack for Developers in Spanish

As mentioned in our previous post, we are running a technical workshop called #CodigOptimista. The 5th and last class is scheduled for this Thursday 02/11.

We are very excited with the results and will present a detailed report of it once finished. Viva LATAM builders!

During the workshop we have learned very interesting concepts and understood the possibilities offered by the OP Stack for developers.

We performed a step-by-step on how to deploy an OP Chain in Sepolia, as well as connecting that chain to a block explorer to visualize the activity of our chain.

We had a lesson from @Joxes, where he explained all the technical details about OP Mainnet and how we can perform a complete research to understand the Optimism architecture.

This Thursday, we will close with a class focused on the Law of Chains and the bridges between OP Chains, giving developers an understanding of the potential that the Superchain will offer in the future.

You can watch all the classes of the #CodigOptimista Workshop here:

Stay tuned for the final report on the #CodigOptimista Workshop.

Interview with Lavande (Gov Lead Optimism Foundation)

This October will remain forever in the memory of the Optimism Español team.

As part of the AULA ABIERTA series of talks organized by @SEEDGov, we were invited to participate in a special class to explain what’s new for Season 5 of Governance at Optimism.

We were very surprised to learn that we could also interview none other than @lavande (Gov Lead OP Foundation)!

The interview was conducted by @Pumbi (Team Leader of Optimism Español). During the interview, Lavande offered us some very interesting points of view about the current state of Optimism Governance and all the upcoming changes.

She told us about the behind-the-scenes work process related to Governance, the challenges to overcome. We are very grateful to Lavande who also surprised us in the interview by speaking magnificent Spanish for the entire Latin audience.

Thank you very much Lavande!

Class #3 - October 12, 2023

Class #4 - October 19, 2023

Class #5 - November 2, 2023

Data Analysis

To measure workshop attendance (excluding video views), we used the minted POAPs tool to validate the information.

Based on the detail provided by POAP, we were able to extract data and produce a complete report. We created a ranking system, which we called RARITY to send attendance attestations to the participants.

This system we implemented has 5 rarities: Uncommon, Common, Rare, Epic, Legendary.

How does it work?
An address minted 4 POAPs, accesses the Epic level.
An address minted 1 POAP, accesses the Uncommon level.

A single attestation is sent per address detailing the level reached. This is our first experimentation with Attestations and we plan to continue using them in the future, helping users to build onchain identity on the Optimism network.

You can see the full report here: Reporte - Workshop #CodigOptimista - Google Sheets

You can see the attestations submitted (all under Schema #253) here: Schema #253 (OPTIMISM ESPAÑOL EVENTS) - 0x7b4c...ca198

Telegram Groups

During the workshop, we felt the need to create a space where developers can talk to each other and solve doubts. That is why we created a telegram group where we invited the participants to join.

The group turned out to be very helpful, as they naturally began to help each other to answer questions and suggestions on how to move forward with the topics covered in class.

All the history of what was discussed in the group, as well as the access is through the following link: https://t.me/+3FTMowGnYZ4zYzgx

image

We plan to keep this group active and continue to provide value to the participants.

Additionally, we would like to announce that we launched the Optimism Español Telegram group. The group is oriented to share news related to Optimism, RPGF, Superchain (with clear rules of behavior). If anyone wants to join, you can do it through this link: Telegram: Contact @OptimismESP

Conclusions

  • The level of attendance at the Workshop followed the classic tendency of technical courses, where the first classes represent the highest points of audience. Then, as the topics become more complex and technical, attendance tends to decrease.
  • Using the data extracted from POAP, we came to the conclusion that we had 48 students during the workshop. Of that total, 22 participated as developers.
  • There were 5 who were able to successfully deploy their OP Chain during the workshop.
  • Continuing with our mission, all the content of the workshop was entirely in Spanish. This content becomes a new high quality resource for Spanish-speaking developers interested in Optimism.
  • We learned from this workshop that there is an audience interested in accessing more technical content. We will continue to specialize in order to provide the community with this type of content more frequently.
  • As a point to improve, we took away from the workshop to create a more suitable environment so that the students’ questions could be answered live. During the workshop, we conducted additional sessions through Google Meet, but this solution created friction in moving from one platform to another.

We thank turupawn for supporting us during this workshop. Without his skills, his knowledge of OP Stack, and his willingness to teach none of this would have been possible. Thank you turupawn!

Stay safe and optimistic!

RetroPGF 3

We are very happy to have been recipients of the RetroPGF3 round. This is a great incentive for us to continue working with passion to bring the Optimistic Vision to all the Spanish-speaking audience.

We thank the badgeholders for their confidence in our work and for appreciating the impact we make to the Optimism Collective.

Activities

All of our activities and initiatives are aligned with our mission and vision stated in the main post of this thread.

Twitter Space: RetroPGF 3

We held a Twitter Space to talk about all the details of the RetroPGF3 round. We counted with the presence of @dmars300 from Cryptoversidad (badgeholder and Lead Reviewer of the round).

We discussed about the importance of sustaining public goods, about the ways to measure the impact of a project, about the future of RetroPGF and its impact in LATAM.

Great talk that you can’t miss!

Twitter Space: Liquid Summer with Meta Pool

Meta Pool has arrived on OP Mainnet!

We held this Twitter Space with @claudioac (co-founder Meta Pool) & @tao (Velodrome) to tell us more details about how Meta Pool starts its way to OP Mainnet with Velodrome, offering its liquid staking token mpETH.

A very interesting talk to learn about the operation and future of both Meta Pool and Velodrome.

Workshop: #OPMode

We conducted a workshop with @cryptofede, Head DevRel of Mode Network. During this workshop we were able to learn in detail about this new OP Chain that seeks to become the DeFi Hub of the Superchain and Fede explained how SFS (Sequencer Fee Sharing) works in Mode.

You can watch the recording of the workshop here.

Workshop: OP Grants

During the month of March, our collaborator @Pumbi gave a workshop to the Costa Rican community on how to apply for a Mission Request in Season 5. We discussed the different ways of contributing to participate in Optimism, the entire governance process and its functions (Token House & Citizens’ House), tips for a good application, review of the Charmverse platform, and answered questions from participants.

We thank @inbestprogram.eth for the invitation and the space to share with their community.

Next Steps

For Q2 we plan to continue with various educational activities, mainly focused on governance and technical content (OP Sepolia failure testing).

We will also delve deeper into the changes that came with Retro Funding and the different rounds that will take place this 2024.

And as always… Stay Optimistic! :red_circle::sparkles:
