Please register to be a delegate at https://vote.optimism.io/
Participating in Token House governance will require a serious time commitment. For this reason, we will strongly encourage people claiming OP in Airdrop #1 (and future Airdrops) to delegate the voting power of their tokens to a community member who has explicitly volunteered to play an active role in Token House governance. These volunteers are called delegates.
If you’d like to show up as a delegate on our voting portal, please head to our voting portal and connect your wallet to complete your profile according to the below template.
Understanding the Optimistic Vision and Collective Constitution
Delegation is a commitment to the Optimism Collective. If you haven’t done so already, you should read and understand the Optimistic Vision and Collective Constitution documents. The Optimistic Vision paints a picture for what the Optimism Collective is attempting to do in the long-term. The Collective Constitution explains how, practically, we aim to bring this vision to life. Familiarizing yourself with these documents is crucial to being an effective delegate.
What it means to be a delegate
Delegates are a critical part of the Optimism Collective governance model. Without delegates we cannot effectively translate individual needs and wants into Collective action. Becoming a delegate is a commitment to engage actively in the governance of the Optimism Collective for the benefit of the Collective’s citizenry.
Although the exact roles and asks of a delegate will likely change over time, delegates are expected to shoulder the following key responsibilities:
- Read, understand, and provide any necessary feedback on governance forum posts.
- Think critically and give input on governance experiments that will define the future of the Collective.
- Explore new ways to improve the Optimism Collective as a whole, whether by technical improvements, governance changes, or any other means.
- Understand Optimism network parameters and how these parameters can be tuned to ensure that the core Optimism network functions optimally for all network participants.
- Actively vote on governance proposals and explain the thinking behind each vote when helpful.
- Promote the Collective’s cultural values by setting a positive example for the general public.
Compensation for delegates
Acting as a delegate is expected to be a significant amount of effort and should be treated as a serious commitment. Just as the Optimism Collective aims to fairly and adequately reward the creation of public goods, the Collective will aim to fairly and adequately reward its delegates. Delegates will eventually receive compensation for this significant time commitment once the role has stabilized.
