Seeking Mission Request Sponsorship

A mission request on deliberative governance
Hi everyone, based on the analysis of the results of RGPF 3, I would like to see a mission aiming at improving the quality of the review and voting process for badgeholders. I have a precise idea in mind which would be a citizens’ assembly like process of collective intelligence. But maybe it would be good to have some different proposals on how to specifically improve that process.

Here is a link to my analysis and the proposal.

Happy to discuss it.

Hi @Antoine! Metagovenance proposals cannot be made through a Mission Request. If you’d like to run a governance experiment, you’ll need to collaborate with the Foundation on that (which should be easy as we’re already in discussions with you:). There are two main reasons for this:

  • Metagovernance will be the last proposal type brought online, once the full governance system is up and running
  • Metagovernance requires system design and is hard to do in isolation - working with the Foundation ensures governance experiments are designed and implemented as part of a cohesive system

Nice! thanks for feedback. It’s the drawback with governance nerds … they want to play around with decision legos all over the place

Hi all!

This proposal has been withdrawn.

The TechNERD expansion proposal will go through as a Foundation Mission instead of a Delegate Mission.

Thank you to all the delegates who engaged!

Optimistic as always :sparkles:

Hi top delegates!

Curious if y’all think / know of / are a delegate that would be willing to submit a mission request focused on stablecoin diversity ? A high level description would be something like this:

Mission request: stablecoin diversity
Intent 1 - progress towards technical decentralization

We all depend on centralized stables—whether we like it or not. When they fail, shit hits the fan across the ecosystem. Yet 92% is USDC+USDT! Ethereum has a bus factor of 2 companies, posing a real systemic risk.

With https://stablecoindiversity.org/ I advocate the need of stablecoin diversity, and am in the process of drafting a realistic path for getting there.

The mission request would describe goals for increasing the adoption of niche fiat-backed stablecoins within the Optimism ecosystem. The grant can for instance be leveraged to incentivize the creation of more pairs on DEXes, increase TVL for those fiat-backed stablecoins and integrating the stablecoins in specific protocols.

Curious what y’all think. Should I expand upon this idea by completing the full mission request template? If I do, is there anyone who wants to volunteer to submit this as a mission request?

How will this Delegate Mission Request help accomplish the above Intent?

Alignment with Intent: Improve governance accessibility (Intent 4)
The proposed Delegate Mission Request by Modular Crypto aligns seamlessly with Intent 4, focusing on improving governance accessibility within the Optimism ecosystem, especially educating the Portuguese Community. The mission encompasses a multifaceted approach, incorporating both educational content creation and a series of five events across Brazil to spread knowledge and experiences about onchain governance.

  • Educational Content: Modular Crypto commits to producing regular content weekly, bridging the language barrier for Portuguese speakers interested in crypto and blockchain. The weekly podcasts, live YouTube sessions, and in-depth written materials specifically address the Optimism ecosystem and governance, contributing to better knowledge sharing and informed voters.
  • Events Across Brazil: Recognizing the diverse nature of Brazil’s crypto market, Modular Crypto plans on doing five events spread across different regions of the country, providing a dedicated space for innovation and technology adoption. These events are strategically designed to highlight web3 projects, foster accessibility, and engage the Brazilian community in discussions about Optimism.
  • Community Onboarding: modular crypto is committed to making the Brazilian people more active in web3 governance, especially optimism, helping to reduce barriers to participation and increase the diversity of perspectives in governance processes.
  • Accessibility Initiatives: The proposal includes various accessibility initiatives. The regular weekly content shared in Portuguese for free lowers any linguistic and financial barriers that might limit access to quality information about Optimism and it’s governance system. This is expanded by the IRL events in which participants will be greeted with special swag, and even the creation of NFTs on Optimism during the events, contributing to a more culturally diverse and engaging governance experience.

How It Will Help Achieve the Intent:

  • Education: By providing free, consistent, accessible educational content in Portuguese, Modular Crypto contributes to increasing the understanding of the governance system for new entrants.
  • Events: Hosting events in various regions of Brazil promotes inclusivity, encourages participation from different audiences, and creates transparency and accountability through media coverage and engagement metrics.
  • Onboarding: With a focus on onboarding more individuals to governance, Modular Crypto directly addresses the intent of lowering barriers to participation and increasing the diversity of governance participants.

In summary, the proposed Delegate Mission Request comprehensively addresses Intent 4 by fostering a welcoming governance community, promoting education, and creating transparency within the Optimism ecosystem in Brazil.

What is required to execute this Delegate Mission Request?

Educational content about Optimism and governance in Brazil.
At the moment, all our content is freely accessible, serving as a valuable public resource for Portuguese speakers interested in learning about crypto and blockchain. We already try to cover all news regarding Optimism in our podcasts and social media coverage. Our content helps bridge the language barrier for the Portuguese-speaking community, making Optimism more accessible. We commit to creating weekly content about Optimism in the “State of Ethereum” (YouTube Livestream) and to produce 1 (one) in-depth written content biweekly about Optimism. We also believe that IRL events are very important to onboard and engage the Brazilian community about some such important themes as Optimism, scalability, Ethereum, and governance.

Why Brazil

Brazil’s crypto market has witnessed remarkable growth, with over 16 million users, constituting nearly 8% of the population in 2022. Despite this progress, some perceptions veer towards speculation rather than exploring the full potential of web3. Inspired by the Ethereum events, our team envisions bringing similar energy to Brazil. Recognizing the challenges in existing crypto events here, mostly geared towards trading and centralized players, we aim to redefine these experiences by planning a series of five events across the country. Our goal is to:

  • Highlight Web3: These events will specifically showcase and encourage the exploration of web3 projects, providing a dedicated space for innovation.
  • Quality and Engagement: We are committed to delivering exceptional event experiences, focusing on detail, accessibility, and engaging workshops.
  • Sustained Connection: Beyond these gatherings, we plan to maintain a year-long engagement with the community, ensuring continuous interaction and support.

By diversifying locations, we aim to bolster regional blockchain communities, providing access to specialized knowledge and fostering inclusivity. These events will spotlight projects, encourage technology adoption, and serve as nexus points for learning, collaboration, and networking. Ultimately, they aim to fortify Brazil’s crypto landscape and unite a diverse community across the country.

Hi @gabriellamena

“Missions are specific initiatives aimed at achieving one of the Intents. They are tightly scoped and can be accomplished start-to-finish in less than 12 months.”

They are team agnostic. You can find an explanation here: Missions v2: Season 5

You can suggest event missions, but I would recommend it to be geographically agnostic and more general too. There are a few examples for hackathons here: 🏹 Mission Requests - Optimism Collective

would it be done weekly?

any reason why the event is planned only for the second half of days?

also your planned schedule suggests 1 hr talk about Optimism and governance, there are at least 6 L2 running on OP Stack and many in dev. Your proposal is related to gov accessibility, do you think its possible to cover the current gov structure in less than 30min which include token and citizen house ?

Mission Request Template

Delegate Mission Request Summary:

Creating an analytical website for Optimism network users to comprehensively and accurately view their on-chain data, similar to Spotify Wrapped where users can see a detailed and comprehensive report of their activity.

S5 Intent 3: Improve Consumer Experience

Proposing Delegate: -

Proposal Tier: Ember Tier

Baseline grant amount: 20k OP

Should this Foundation Mission be fulfilled by one or multiple applicants: One

Submit by: To be set by Grants Council

Selection by: To be set by Grants Council

Start date: Q1 2024

Completion date: Q2- Q 3 2024

Specification

How will this Delegate Mission Request help accomplish the above Intent?

Currently, a large number of decentralized and centralized applications are active on the Optimism network, and many users transact on this network on a daily basis. Some platforms have attempted to show users their activity statistics to the extent possible, but the level of this information is very limited and restricted to those platforms. The idea we want to implement is to create an analytical website where users can enter their address and receive a comprehensive report of their past activity. This report can include the following:

1- Chain activity
2- NFT
3- Governance
4- Swap
5- Platforms
6- Airdrop
7- Liquidity
8- Social
9- Transfers
10- Cex flow
and other insights that can help manage user activity.

Developing this tool and supporting it requires the presence of support and incentives, so this grant can help us implement this good idea. Since the goal of this project is the users of the ecosystem, the allocated budget for development can indirectly benefit them.

What is required to execute this Delegate Mission Request?

What we consider as our responsibility:

1- Creating a comprehensive tool, encompassing data comprehensiveness and covering various topics.
2- Its accuracy.
3- Its being free.
4- Supporting this tool and improving its features over time based on user feedback.

How should the Token House measure progress towards this Mission?

The best way is to set different milestones that we can use to demonstrate progress. Since this tool encompasses various parts, we can categorize it into different milestones and develop and present a section of the project in each one. In these stages, we can focus better and more accurately on further developing the previous parts and planning for future programs. We can consider a total of 3 to 4 milestones for it.

How should badgeholders measure impact upon completion of this Mission?

Impacts:

1- Assisting users in obtaining reports that help them manage their portfolios and future activities on various platforms.

2- Creating a very high level of transparency in the ecosystem.

3- Creating campaigns where users can generate very positive vibes in the community by sharing their reports, which can occur during airdrops, campaigns, and other events.

4- Assisting projects and individuals organizing campaigns, as they can easily ensure the eligibility of their customers by entering their address, without the need to manually check it with optimism scan websites.

5- Assisting users in better understanding the concept of On-chain and various contracts on this network.

6- Monitoring malicious users or top community members and identifying locations with the highest activity or those that have recently become active.

The dashboard below, which has been previously developed, is a very small scale of what we intend to do, but it can help in understanding our idea.

Here’s a link to our member’s award at RetroPGF#3, We will be promoting the Optimism vision and the public goods concept to a large number of Chinese-speaking countries.

This is our draft proposal

We discussed our idea with several members at OP Labs, and are now looking for a delegate to sponsor a new Mission Request:

Mission Request: ZKP2P Onramping

Delegate Mission Request Summary:

ZKP2P is exploring on ramping as an application for zero knowledge proofs and has recently deployed an alpha to Base that supports Venmo (a popular US p2p payments app) to USDC ramping, and are now looking to expand to other payment services and chains as part of our mission.

The network is powered by ZK proofs of payment confirmation receipts, which allows for permissionless integration with different web2 payment network. We build upon the 0xParc / PSE ZK-Email libraries to prove the contents of the receipts without revealing sensitive information. Upon successful off-chain payment and corresponding proof generation, a user can acquire stable currencies on-chain in a non-interactive manner.

This mission funding calls for further exploration of other attested data sources and payment platforms for feasibility as well as cryptographic primitives. Any that qualify should be integrated into the protocol and client. The protocol should be permissionless and can be integrated by developers looking to unlock ramping for their users. The mission request should also explore account abstraction integrations as part of our client to further facilitate efficient financial inclusion.

We believe that ZK is the next 0-1 in crypto applications, and there are many use cases that can be built that we haven’t imagined yet that are enabled by connecting web2 data with web3. This mission propels the vision forward by allowing us to continue building open source. Our stack is extensible to many other zk use cases requiring on chain verification.

S5 Intent Please list the Intent your Request aligns with here:

  • Grow the Superchain
  • Improve the Consumer Experience

Proposing Delegate: N/A

Proposal Tier: Ember / Fledgling Tier

Baseline grant amount: 150K OP

Should this Foundation Mission be fulfilled by one or multiple applicants: one applicant, multiple team members (4)

Submit by: To be set by Grants Council

Selection by: To be set by Grants Council

Start date: Started

Completion date: 4 Months

Specification

How will this Delegate Mission Request help accomplish the above Intent?

  • Grow the Superchain

    • This Mission Request aims to grow the superchain by providing a working production template for novel applications enabled by on chain proof verification. Examples of these include but are not limited to new identity systems and soulbound tokens by proving off chain data, privacy preserving voting systems, selective disclosure for NFTs, other use cases involving escrow settlement such as on and off ramping, and others
    • Our work is trackable and forkable through our open source (unable to link due to link limit) repository and is complete with example zk circuits, smart contracts for on chain verification, and clients that integrate both. Current and future work are also documented publicly (docs.zkp2p.xyz/zkp2p).
      • Prerequisites for on chain verification (bn254 precompiles) are satisfied on OP chains due to EVM equivalency
  • Improve the Consumer Experience

    • This Mission Request directly supports listed intent example: Experience enhancements that may include fiat on/off ramps, UX improvements (e.g., EIP 6551 and EIP 4337), web2 profile import to web3 profiles [via zk proofs], and innovations that streamline on-chain activities.
    • Specifically, it aims to grow all of the collective measurements outlined in the Consumer Experience intent:
      • Number of new wallet addresses with a verified anti-sybil check:
        • The ramp protocol implementation will be inherently anti-sybil as it requires registration with unique proof of payment account (opensea.io/collection/proof-of-p2p-v1-1) via a zk proof. New wallet addresses will be onboarded as integrations of additional payment platforms used in other geographies are added to the protocol (currently only support Venmo)
      • Number of repeat transactions from new addresses:
        • The protocol should be the go to destination for anyone repeatedly seeking trustless onramping capabilities and repeated use is expected
        • The protocol or client will integrate 4337 account abstractions to further facilitate ease of use and adoption while transactions settle to
      • Number of transactions from new addresses that occur via non-DeFi applications:
        • Transactions of users on ramping should primarily include registration, ramping, and transfers

What is required to execute this Delegate Mission Request?

  • R&D into the feasibility of integrating additional payment platforms (Wise, Paylah, Mercado Pago, etc.)
  • R&D into the feasibility of integrating additional cryptographic primitives such as TLSN
  • R&D and integration of 4337 and account abstraction providers
  • Development and deployment of requisite smart contracts with ramp functionality and on chain verification
  • UX research and UI design work
  • Protocol and circuit security audits
  • Observability into user activity and trends

How should the Token House measure progress towards this Mission?

The Token House should measure progress toward this mission by tracking the completion of each defined milestone within the proposed timeline and receiving regular updates.

How should badgeholders measure impact upon completion of this Mission?

The impact on the mission can be measured by on-chain user and transaction metrics on Dune (rlg195/zkp2p, link limit) as well as learnings, insights, and talks published by the developing team.

Open Source OP Stack Developer Tooling

Delegate Mission Request Summary:

This mission request aims to promote open source developer tooling development and maintenance under the S5 initiative. Developer toolings are important for the adoption of OP Stack and Superchain.

S5 Intent: Intent 1 - Progress towards technical decentralization
Proposing Delegate:
Proposal Tier: Ember
Baseline grant amount: 250,000 OP (10k - 50k OP Each)
Should this Foundation Mission be fulfilled by one or multiple applicants: Multiple
Submit by: To be set by Grants Council
Selection by: Grants Council and Developer Advisory Board
Start date: February 1st 2024
Completion date: February 1st 2025

Specification

How will this Delegate Mission Request help accomplish the above intent?

Developer toolings play a crucial role in the widespread use of OP Stack and Superchain. These tools simplify the process of developing and deploying OP Stack and Superchain. They also lessen the time and effort required to create and implement the OP Stack chain and dApps that operate across OP Stack chains.

Example of these open source toolings:

What is required to execute this Delegate Mission Request?:

  • Developers should have a substantial history of experience in developing tools relevant to the proposal. A background in contributing to related open-source tools is a plus.
  • For existing open-source toolings, proposals for enhancements or new features to existing open-source tools are required. A detailed development roadmap for the year 2024 must be included in the submission.
  • The open-source tooling should be primarily aimed at the development and deployment of OP Stack or dApps on OP Stack. If the tooling offers a broad range of features, the proposal should specifically emphasize those aspects related to OP Stack. For instance, if proposing for Viem 2.0 – a general Ethereum client library with functions specific to OP Stack – the focus should be on the implementation of these OP Stack-specific functions.
  • The proposed developer tooling must be open source.
  • The grant proposal must receive approval from the Developer Advisory Board.

How should the Token House measure progress towards this Mission?:

  • Monitor open source GitHub repository for progress

I’m looking for a top 100 delegate to sponsor a mission to create a Developer Resource Hub for Optimism and the Superchain. I believe it’s hard for new builders to start on Optimism because there’s no central place for information. This hub will make it easier and help grow the Collective.

Delegate Mission Request Summary:
This mission request seeks to establish a centralized resource hub for developers on Optimism and the Superchain. The hub will be a comprehensive repository offering a wide range of development tools, frontend libraries, debugging, testing libraries, smart contract templates, etc as well as grant guidance.

The goal is to provide clear, accessible guidance and support to teams and builders dedicated to developing on OP-Mainnet and/or as part of the Superchain.

By centralizing resources and guidance, this mission request directly contributes to the growth and development of active builders on the Superchain.

What is required to execute this Delegate Mission Request?
To execute this Delegate Mission Request for creating a Developer Resource Hub for Optimism and the Superchain, several key elements are required:

  1. Comprehensive Resource Compilation: Assemble an extensive collection of development tools, frontend libraries, debugging tools, smart contract templates, fuzzing tools, and testing tools. These resources must be specifically chosen to meet the needs of developers working within the Optimism ecosystem, including integration with OP Mainnet and chains like Base.
  2. User-Friendly Interface: Design the hub with a focus on ease of navigation, ensuring developers can quickly find the tools or information they need. This includes intuitive categorization with filters, search functionality, and clear, concise descriptions of each resource with relevant links.
  3. Grant Information Section: Incorporate a detailed section on available grants, including types of grants, application processes, and criteria. This section should provide developers with clear guidance on how to secure financial support for their projects within the Superchain.
  4. Regular Updates and Maintenance: Ensure the hub remains up-to-date with the latest tools, libraries, and grant opportunities. This requires ongoing maintenance and regular updates.

By fulfilling these requirements, the Developer Resource Hub will be a vital asset for fostering growth and innovation on the Optimism network and the broader Superchain.

How should the Token House measure progress towards this Mission?
To track progress for the Developer Resource Hub mission, Token House should measure:

  1. Website Launch: Target date for website going live (September 2024).
  2. Visitor Metrics: Monthly count of unique visitors and average time spent on the site.
  3. Resource Count: Number of resources (tools, libraries, etc.) available on the site.

How should badgeholders measure impact upon completion of this Mission?
To measure the impact of the Developer Resource Hub mission, Citizens’ House badgeholders should focus solely on visitor metrics:

  • Total Unique Visitors: Count the cumulative number of unique visitors to the hub since its launch.
  • Repeat Visit Rate: Calculate the percentage of visitors who return to the site, indicating sustained interest.
  • Average Time Spent: Track the average duration of visits, reflecting engagement with the hub’s content.

These visitor metrics will provide a clear indication of the hub’s reach and its effectiveness in engaging the developer community.

Smart Accounts, also known as Account Abstraction or ERC-4437, is a new feature that allows user to execute transactions and interact with blockchains comparable to how you interact with Web2. For end-users, Smart Accounts provide a radically better user-experience through features like: Trustless account recovery, gas abstraction and transaction abstraction.

We aim to build on top of Safe Protocol, one of the most adopted modular smart account infrastructures. The team that would like to execute this proposal is Kolektivo Labs, a Web 3.0 team started in 2020 that has developed multiple projects including PrimeDAO, The DAOist and Kolektivo. We started a WIP draft already when we created the mission request that provides more details.

Kolektivo Labs is also a Safe Guardian (Delegate) and will request match funding and support from SafeDAO in their Season 1.
