UI Design/Product references

We’ve started by compiling design references from other platforms. The main references we highlighted are:

From OP Community:

From Web2:

UI Design Progress

We completed the draft of the initial system screens. You can check the first versions at this public link.

Quests rationale

We’ve developed an initial schema for our quest system, outlining the logic we aim to implement. Additionally, we’ve created a simplified MVP version of this logic to ensure an early launch for community feedback. You can review the initial schema in this link.

Our approach separates registered addresses into three categories: delegates, non-delegates, and those aspiring to become delegates. Based on this categorization, the app will suggest personalized quest tracks guiding users through key actions related to their profile, such as:

  • Becoming a delegate and voting for the first time
  • Delegating OP to others
  • Referring new delegates

Aligning with our mission’s main objectives, we’ve also included a track for delegates who haven’t voted yet, leading them through educational content to encourage their first vote.

The team is currently finalizing:

  • Complete definition of missions
  • First version of the reward system

These updates will be shared soon!

Project Setup

We’ve laid the groundwork for the application, ensuring all necessary systems (repo, CI/CD, deployment infrastructure) are in place. We’ve also started working on the main pages of the app:

  • Listing available quests
  • Detailed information for each quest

Quest Development Strategy

  • We’re close to completing the development of MVP quests implementation and excited to share the MVP version for the first tests soon!
  • Just as a recap, we’ll be releasing new quests using a phased rollout strategy. After the MVP comes:
    • The quests that were selected to V1:
      • OP holder - user has OP in its wallet;
      • For those who want to delegate:
        • Delegation info - Understand why delegate and how’s the process;
        • First Step - Delegate at least 1 OP to someone;
        • Expanded Network - Delegate to more than one person;
      • For delegates:
        • Active Debater - Engage in at least 2 forum discussions;
        • Grant Architect - Publish a mission grants proposal;
        • Rising Star Supporter - Spotlight a smaller delegate.
    • The delivery of other core features (e.g. leaderboard and notification system).
    • Tentative V2 & more: These are additional, non-essential quests planned based on the remaining budget for the project. We’d love to see them also in the system, but we want to keep the focus on what’s important to the mission’s objective and will deprioritize them unless there’s enough interest / budget to allow implementing them.
    • The overall strategy and quests selected for each version can be checked out here.

Still seeking Delegate feedback

  • We’ve reached out to 15+ additional delegates and OP ecosystem participants to ask for their input about what we’ve done so far. So far, only 5 of them have responded, saying that they will look into it or with brief comments on the mission’s difficulty, without deeper feedback. We’re looking for feedback about 1) quest structure; 2) reward system; 3) user engagement / launch strategy.

  • FYI, this is what we sent them:

We’re grantees working on non-technical solutions to increase the # of first-time delegators, voters, and votable supply in Optimism and we’re reaching out for a quick feedback.

Our proposal is a gamified experience to guide users through this journey. Our latest updates from the projects can be found here: [grant update] OP Govquests

We’d really appreciate having your opinion about our initial ideas, mostly regarding:

  1. Quest Structure: We’ve designed a series of quests that guide users through the delegation process.
  2. Reward System: We’re allocating rewards based on quest completion, delegation milestones, and ongoing engagement in the ecosystem.

Here’s our quests, tracks and tiers schema

Reward rationale

UI Designs

Could you please share your thoughts on:

a) Which aspect do you think will be most effective for encouraging delegation and motivating people to become delegates?

b) Do you think the monetary incentives we’ve proposed make sense?

c) Do you see a gap or a missed opportunity in our current design?

All in all, we want to underscore that we’re being paid to build OP Govquests for you - the delegates and future delegates who make Optimism governance work. But we can’t do it in isolation. The low response rate to our outreach makes us wonder if we’re approaching this the wrong way or missing something important. We’d love to hear your thoughts, whether they’re positive or critical - both help us build something that truly serves the community. Even a quick 5-minute chat would help ensure we’re building what you actually need.

Design Progress

  • :loudspeaker: We’re excited to share our design system mood board!
  • After some brainstorm sessions from our side, we believe that we’ve chosen a visual language that aligns closely with Optimism’s identity, and will help users feel that OP Govquests truly belongs to the collective, reducing friction on using a new app.

Quest Development Updates

  • Special thanks to @brichis for the comprehensive feedback that helped us reshape our quest structure in a way that will make more sense to Op Collective! :sparkles:
  • Thanks also to @govweb3explorers and @michael for sharing some initial thoughts about the project with us, and to @sinkas for the availability for a meeting this week!

Changes We’ve Made Based on Feedback:

*See all the quests selected for development here.

tl;dr:

  • “Zero to Hero” was transformed into a special badge that:
    • Will target delegates with less than 1 OP delegated
    • Will include clear user instructions on how to find this info on Dune
  • The partial delegation quests were removed since this delegation option is currently pending feature development
  • We’ve replaced Grant Architect and Retro Recognition with more accessible quests:
    • Earned First Like in the OP Forum
    • Voted in 3 proposals in a row
  • We’ve also added a new special badge called “Vigilant Redelegator” for encouraging redelegation from inactive delegates.

Next Steps

  • Complete UI implementation with final artwork based on our mood board;
  • Move forward with core features development:
    • Leaderboard implementation
    • Tier system definition and development
    • Push notification system setup

Hey folks! Another update in our Govquests journey!

First things first, we’re reorganizing how we report project milestones. We believe that the previous structure wasn’t reflecting our development workflow with enough clarity, so, here’s an updated version:

Engineering Progress

Our internal testing showed that MVP quests are working as expected. We’re in the final stretch of the design definitions and frontend UI implementation.

Product Definitions

We’ve completed all product definitions for our upcoming features, which are now ready to move into development. Here are the key highlights:

:medal_sports: Special Badges

These achievements will be divided into three categories:

  • Progressive Voting Badges
    To reward consistent voting participation
    (E.g.: Active Voter - earned after completing 10 votes)

  • Delegation Support Badges
    Encourage strategic delegation behavior and active delegate discovery
    (E.g.: Delegate Scout - support an active delegate with <5k OP)

  • Achievement Badges
    Recognize major milestones and outstanding participation
    (E.g.: Season Champion with OP reward! - reach first place of the leaderboard in your tier)

:bar_chart: Tier System

  • The tier system will be based on the # of OP delegated to the user
  • Higher tiers (delegates with more share of votable supply) will earn multiplied points for quests and badges

This allows us to:

  • Encourage delegates to develop strategies for increasing their share of votable supply
  • Match engagement patterns: lower tiers accommodate more delegates with growing participation, while higher tiers host fewer but highly active participants.

:trophy: Leaderboard Features

  • Default view shows ranking within user’s tier
  • Optional toggle for full ranking across all tiers
  • User profile displays:
    • Ranking position
    • ENS/address
    • Points
    • OP delegated to
    • Tier level

@bleu_builders I love the approach and execution you guys are doing. :clap: :clap: :clap:
I think this project touches on several of my interests and identified needs. I’d love to support you in some way. :heart_hands:

During Season 6, I was on the govNERD contribution path, as well as in the Super Contributor Cohort, so I think I have some insights that could be interesting; and it would be great to work on them together. :slight_smile:

Thank you both @Jrocki and @alexsotodigital for your encouraging feedback!

We wholeheartedly agree that transparency is crucial, which is why we’re committed to building OP Govquests (and other grants we’ve been awareded) in public. This not only keeps us accountable but also allows us to incorporate community feedback throughout our development process and get to a result more aligned with what’s expected.

@alexsotodigital, exiting to learn about your experience! I think that would be invaluable to us. Could you send us your TG in a DM so that we can create a group to discuss how we can work together?

GovNERDs Collaboration

We recently had a good first talk with @alexsotodigital, where one of the key outcomes was identifying an opportunity to bring GovNERDs closer to the project. We are really excited about this possibility, and we believe it will help us deliver an even more valuable long-term solution for the Optimism ecosystem.

Scope Refinement

After careful analysis, we’ve developed a more streamlined approach to achieve our engagement goals previously predicted as a Season Streak System:

Our Enhanced Approach:

  • Replacing the Season Streak System with a more intuitive badge-based progression:
    • 4 voting participation achievement levels (from Apprentice to Expert)
    • Clear milestones: 5 votes to start, up to 50 votes for highest tier
  • Targeted quests for new delegates:
    • First vote milestone
    • Three consecutive votes achievement

Benefits of This Refinement:

  • Simpler, more intuitive user experience
  • More efficient development and maintenance
  • Enables new exciting features:
    • Tier-based leaderboard competitions
    • OP token rewards for top performers

This refinement better aligns with our key mission objectives of increasing votable supply and number of votes, while delivering a more straightforward experience for users.

Development Strategy :computer:

Our team is fully committed to launching the first version in January as the season begins. We’re taking the following approach to the rollout:

  1. Initial Testing Phase
    • Starting with a smaller group of selected delegates
    • Focused testing and feedback gathering
  2. Early Access Program
    • Opening pre-registration for the second testing group
    • :gift: Special Perk: Early testers will receive an exclusive badge that provides advantages on the leaderboard for the whole Season!
