Superchain Grants Review Process

The Grants Council is introducing the review process for the Season 6 Superchain Grants Program. In line with our commitment to ensuring that grant allocations effectively contribute to the growth and success of the Superchain, we have established a rigorous evaluation process. This process will involve a series of targeted questions that each application will be assessed against.

Evaluation Criteria

Each grant proposal will be evaluated based on the following yes/no questions:

  1. [Mandatory] Is the chain currently live or scheduled to go live during Season 6? (Live: contributing revenue to the collective)
  2. Is the structure and distribution plan of your proposed grant program clearly defined and appropriate for achieving its objectives?
  3. Is the grant program request efficient in terms of expected outcomes?
  4. Does the grant request align with the overall intent of supporting the Superchain?
  5. Are they utilizing the metrics provided by the Grants Council to measure the success of your grant program?
  6. Is the grant request designed to avoid extractive dynamics between chains within the Superchain?
  7. Is the ask for OP tokens reasonable and justified based on their proposed impact?
  8. Does the grant program include a clear and measurable plan for contributing to the overall health and growth of the Superchain ecosystem?
  9. Does the grant program have a plan for long-term sustainability beyond the initial grant period?
  10. Does the grant program have specific plans for tracking and reporting the progress of funded projects?
  11. Will the grant program contribute to bringing new developers or projects into the Superchain ecosystem?
  12. Is the grant program flexible enough to adapt to evolving Superchain needs or unexpected challenges?
  13. Is the chain credibly positioned to deliver on the expectations set in its grant proposal?

Scoring and Expectations

To be considered for a grant, chains should aim to have 12 out of 13 of these questions answered with a “Yes.” This high standard ensures that only the most robust, well-planned, and impactful proposals receive support.

Live Chain Prioritization

As previously announced, only chains that are already live will be considered. This prioritization reflects our commitment to supporting chains that are already actively contributing to the network’s success.

Grant Cap Considerations

While the Superchain grant cap is set at 3M OP, we expect chains to apply with a realistic understanding of their needs and impact. The hard cap is a limit and not the standard grant size. Requests must demonstrate exceptional innovation and promote synergies across the Superchain if you apply for more than 1M. We encourage applicants to align their grant size with their expectations and the value they bring to the Superchain.

Commitment to Excellence

This rigorous evaluation process reflects our commitment to maintaining the integrity and success of the Superchain. The Grants Council is not a gatekeeper but a partner in guiding applicants toward proposals that align with The Collective.

We look forward to working with all applicants and are eager to support those who demonstrate a clear vision and commitment to driving the growth of the Superchain.

These questions will reflect:

  1. Market readiness
  2. Commitment towards Optimism and its values and vision.
  3. Hard facts on how the product (dApp) and its usage brings practicality to the market and its users.
  4. Ask and how it will impact collective.
  5. Sustainability
  6. Impact Tracking
  7. Growth
  8. Profitability

The primary review at a glace will give so much information to the reviewer allowing the impactful projects getting in-depth researched due to time constrains but not impacting quality and genuity.

 :+1: Way to go Grants Council Team… Super work

The grants council decided to remove 2 questions that are not aligned and do not reflect the idea behind the mission request.

  1. Is the grant program designed to leverage the Superchain as a whole, rather than focusing solely on your individual chain?

  2. Is there a clear strategy for collaboration with other OP Chains or projects within the Superchain to maximize impact?
