Research different approaches to scale badgeholders capacity to allocate RetroPGF.

Delegate Mission Request Summary: Research, document & implement Proof Of Concepts of different approaches to scale the capacity of badgeholders to allocate Retroactive Public Good Funding (retroPGF) to an ever growing pool of applicants without losing confidence on the alignment of the allocation with the badgeholders perspectives.

This mission is stating the problem rather than focusing on a specific solution with the intention of attracting a diverse set of solutions that can offer novel approaches to make RetroPGF more efficient and less overwhelming for badgeholders.

S5 Intent 4: Improve governance accessibility

Proposing Delegate: TBD

Proposal Tier 13: Ember

Baseline grant amount: 80 K (Up to 20K per applicant)

Should this Foundation Mission be fulfilled by one or multiple applicants: Multiple.

Submit by: To be set by Grants Council

Selection by: To be set by Grants Council

Start date: ASAP

Completion date: 4 months would be ideal to draw insights for RetoPGF4

Specification

How will this Delegate Mission Request help accomplish the above Intent?

Ariiellus analysis from the feedback forum post of RetroPGF3 showed the number of projects as the most popular category for feedback. Several Badge Holders expressed feeling overwhelmed by the number of projects including @katie Katieā€™s feedback, @amer Amerā€™s feedback & @itublockchain itublockchainā€™s feedback

Here are a couple of screenshots from the feedback:

Optimism governance relies on the Optimismā€™s two-house system. There seems to be agreement in the citizen house on the need to scale the capacity of badgeholders to effectively vote for applicants to RetroPGF. Many solutions were suggested in the referenced forum post. The Optimism collective could benefit from deeper research & implementation of Proof Of Concepts of these or other novel solutions to improve one of the weakest elements of Optimsm governance.

What is required to execute this Delegate Mission Request?

  • Each team should have the capacity to both perform robust research of different solutions and implement a POC of one or more solutions.
  • Researchers are required to submit a comprehensive proposal, which should include:
    • A list of research topics.
    • Grant size justification for each topic.
    • The main researchers and developersā€™ relevant past experiences.
    • The potential uses and advantages of the proposed topics.
    • An initial plan for implementation, which may be modified during the project.
  • The implementation work should be carried out on a repository or forked repository that is open-sourced to the public.

Shamelessly taking well crafted elements of this Mission request

How should the Token House measure progress towards this Mission?

Each project may choose their own milestones. However, most applications should include the following.

  • An initial report of the approaches researched, an assessment of the most suitable solutions & one or more approaches selected to be implemented.
  • Implementation of the POC.
  • A well documented Github repo with all milestones completed.

How should badgeholders measure impact upon completion of this Mission?

  • Badgeholders may assess the quality of the research, the suitable solution and the approaches selected.
  • Badgeholders may test the POC and evaluate if it does scale their capacity to allocate RetroPGF.
  • Approaches should be contrasted to consider implementing one or multiple solution in a following round.

  2. adding .json file creation to 1:1 art collections
  3. adding robust analytics to share with all chains

Completion date: December 2024

Specification

How will this Delegate Mission Request help accomplish the above Intent?

One of the best new practical use cases for Optimism is Public Goods Funding. PGF is the de facto whole governmental sector. Local, national and international governments and bodies manage trillions in budgets. If Optimism becomes the go to place for running advanced PGF processes, it could onboard millions of new users. Itā€™s a long road to get there, but we need to start somewhere. With one small governmental body like a city, with a couple of grant programs. But essentially, learn along the way and more importantly build the tooling and knowhow:

  • technical, ie. apps;
  • legal, ie. laws and bylaws;
  • administrative, ie. documentation;
  • managing, ie. marketing, funding, etc.

By creating this infrastructure, we improve our consumer experience and set Optimism for onboarding millions.

What is required to execute this Delegate Mission Request?

  • Deliverable 1: Website for running municipal grant program
  • Deliverable 2: Integrated direct on-ramp service
  • Deliverable 3: Integrated wallet
  • Deliverable 4: Integrated grant protocols (Allo, etc.)
  • Deliverable 5: Legal templates
  • Deliverable 6: Administrative templates
  • Deliverable 7: Programme templates (eg. cultural projects, public infrastructure, local media, etc. )
  • Deliverable 8: Marketing playbook
  • Deliverable 9: Promo and sales materials, presentations, video explainers
  • Deliverable 10: Impact analysis and reporting playbook and tooling

How should the Token House measure progress towards this Mission?

1 App development Website, Integrated direct on-ramp service, Integrated wallet, Integrated grant protocols October 2024 Link to website/app
2 Templates Legal templates, Administrative templates, Programme templates, Reporting tooling November 2024 Link to documentation
3 Playbooks Marketing playbook, Reporting playbook December 2024 Link to documentation

  • Number of new users
  • Number of donations
  • Number of project proposals
  • Amount donated
  • Number of transactions

We would be willing to sponsor this mission request. We havenā€™t had enough time to fully review the other mission request mentioned, but given the concerns voiced by badgeholders after RetroPGF further research or discussion on scaling badgeholder capacity (as well as determining if this is something the DAO even wants) could be worthwhile.

okay, but if praise pairwise ends up applying for this i will be very upset

Can you elaborate on why so I can understand how to amend this? I put up to 3 applicants because I believe the same thing can be executed by several collectives, organizations, or DAOs with similar interest.

Incredible to see all the engagement on this thread! The deadline to submit Mission Request drafts has just passed (19:00 GMT).

Decentralized Verifiable Random Number Generator for Superchain Networks

This mission seeks to build a public-good, decentralized, and open-source verifiable random number generator that supports all the Superchain networks. Then, developers on Superchain can access random numbers easily.

S5 Intent 2: Grow the Superchain

Proposing Delegate: ā€¦ā€¦

Proposal Tier 17: Fledgling

Baseline grant amount: 120K OP

Should this Foundation Mission be fulfilled by one or multiple applicants: Multiple

Submit by: To be set by Grants Council

Selection by: To be set by Grants Council

Start date: Right after it gets accepted

Completion date: Within 4 months from the start time

Specification

How will this Delegate Mission Request help accomplish the above Intent?

  • We need random numbers in many use cases, from selecting a winner in a raffle to picking a random node to verify a block. Currently, random number generators have problems. They support a few networks; some are costly and some are centralized. Having a legitimate random number generator can help devs to build their dApps on Superchain networks.

What is required to execute this Delegate Mission Request?

  • Knowledgeable Expertise: Random numbers are a bit tricky, so executors should be knowledgeable about this field.

How should the Token House measure progress towards this Mission?

  • The system can be designed in many ways. So the Token House should ask for a specific roadmap and deadlines from each team. The final result would be a random number generator on the Superchain ecosystem.

How should badgeholders measure impact upon completion of this Mission?

  • The number of contracts/dApps that use this random number generator
  • The number of total requests for random numbers
