Retroactive Delegate Rewards for Season 1 & 2

The Optimism Foundation recognizes the incredible work Token House delegates have put in over the last six months. The workload for delegates was very intense and we appreciate your dedication, feedback, and willingness to iterate. In recognition of this work, the Foundation will retroactively reward the top active delegates from Seasons 1 & 2.

Delegates with >0.5% voting power are eligible to receive 10,500 OP, if they meet the below criteria.

Delegates with >0.25% but <0.5% voting power are eligible to receive 8,000 OP, if they meet the below criteria.

These criteria, while imperfect, attempt to take into account a delegate’s reputation, voting participation, and voting quality. Please remember this criteria is only being used for Season 2 and is likely to change in the future Seasons as governance evolves.

In addition to the above rewards, 4,000 OP will be distributed to each member of Shadow Committee B, in recognition of their contributions during Season 2.

Shadow Committee B members:

Consistent with other grant distributions, delegate rewards will be subject to a KYC and claims flow process.

In Season 3, rewards will be pre-defined for all Council positions, if the Grants Council is approved. All other delegate rewards will continue to be allocated retroactively. As Collective governance processes are still highly experimental, there may be large shifts in delegate responsibility and activity levels between Seasons. Distributing rewards retroactively allows for flexibility in the face of this high variability.

Once governance has stabilized, an ongoing delegate rewards policy may be implemented, subject to a governance vote. This round of retroactive delegate rewards will be allocated from the “Unallocated” portion of the Ecosystem Fund, not the Governance Fund (and is therefore not subject to Token House approval).

Delegates are a critical part of Optimism governance. Without delegates, we cannot effectively translate individual needs and wants into Collective action. We know participating in Token House governance requires a serious time commitment and are beyond grateful for your engagement in governance, as it benefits the whole Collective.

Can you provide detais about how you define “top active delegates from Seasons 1 & 2.”

And yes this needs to become standardized, not an one-off.

This will be challenging to determine top active delegates from Seasons 1 and 2, as alot of stuff was done in DMs and other discord channels.

You can get an idea of active delegates though by looking at cycle round ups:

Will the information to identify “top active delegates” be shared publicly?

Using Karma will be helpful here. @mmurthy recent proposal can be used to help with identifying active delegates and rewarding them.

We received a grant in season-2 to build Delegate dashboard which shows delegate activity. We index delegate activity across snapshot, forum and discord.

We can segment the data by season to understand delegate activity in voting, forum and so on. If we can be of any help, let me know. You can see the delegate dashboard here https://optimism.showkarma.xyz/

Nice tool!

One major thing the tool is not capturing is the wallets that could not vote for multiple seasons (Ex: The Synthetix Ambassadors). Though, their activity can be track by looking through the discord channels, OP forums, looking at the Voting Cycle Summaries, and talking to the protocols. ALOT of work has been put into Optimism Governance.

I also think the Defi Shadow Committee should be considered here, I know first hand the time Commitment put into it reviews (@jackanorak was a great committee lead).

def appreciate the callout by @mastermojo , but for my part i didn’t/don’t expect any compensation specifically for our work as the shadow committee, nor do I want it - this was stuff we did on the side to try to demonstrate the minimum work we think committees should be doing

Can we include every delegate call host somehow? I think all of them made an awesome job and should be compensated for it.
