How will this Delegate Mission Request help accomplish the above Intent?

This Delegate Mission Request will help accomplish the above Intent by creating a Governance Mentorship Program (GMP). The GMP will provide a variety of sessions to suit different audience types to help them understand the complexities of governance, the significance of proposals, and how their individual contributions matter. This personalised approach can help demystify governance processes, making them more approachable for individuals who may feel overwhelmed by the technicalities or scale of governance systems. The GMP will also focus on engaging underrepresented groups within the Optimism community, ensuring that these voices are not just heard but actively involved in governance decisions. Special workshops, AMA sessions, and community calls could be conducted in various languages, considering the cultural diversity within the ecosystem. By encouraging a broader range of community members to engage in governance, the collective decision-making process could be enriched with a multitude of perspectives, leading to more balanced and considerate outcomes. The program can have targeted efforts to incorporate views from different demographics, professions, and geographic locations.

Please explain alignment with the relevant Intent

In order to prioritize accessibility of Governance systems to newbies, or in general to any new field or area of expertise, itā€™s often advised to find a mentor who has already gone through the process to help newbies get up to speed quickly and avoid spending time repeating mistakes from the past. Based on this principle, the GMP aims to increase the understandability of the governance system for new entrants as well as enable governance veterans to understand the pain points of newbies in a much more intimate way. This not only helps newbies, but the experience that veterans gain can be leveraged in the upcoming season to craft better solutions to increase accessibility.

The main objectives of this program are:

  • Increase Governance Participation
  • Educational Focus
  • Develop New Active Delegates

What is required to execute this Delegate Mission Request?

  • Identify experienced community members who are willing to participate in the GMP.
  • Develop a curriculum that covers the complexities of governance, the significance of proposals, and how individual contributions matter.
  • Create a schedule for one-on-one sessions, workshops, AMA sessions, and community calls.
  • Identify underrepresented groups within the Optimism community and reach out to them to encourage participation.
  • Conduct periodic surveys and feedback sessions to improve the program

Please list responsibilities and/or expected deliverables

  • Each submission should include a comprehensive curriculum which is targeted towards a demographic, profession, or people from specific geographic background
  • A background of the delegate along with links to relevant experience and background in the field of governance and mentorship
  • A report on the overall mentorship program and the impact it created at the end of the mission

Assessment and engagement

The following activities are suggested by this mission request, however delegates are free to innovate around these ideas.

  • Onchain proof: Participants will receive attestations upon completion of each class, underscoring their learning and involvement.
  • Interactive Quizzes: At the end of each workshop, interactive Kahoot quizzes or tailored questionnaires will be provided. These assessments are designed to evaluate the participantsā€™ understanding and knowledge acquisition from each session.
  • Practical-activity: At the end of most workshops, participants are required to undertake a governance activity, to apply its knowledge.
  • Incentive mechanism: Accepted participants that attend at least 75% of the sessions and successfully complete the activities will be compensated 100 OP. This ensures commitment and maximizes the likelihood of effective learning and active participation in governance.

How should the Token House measure progress towards this Mission?

  • Number of participants who attended and completed the activities.
  • Number of participants who reported an increase in understanding of governance processes.
  • Number of participants who received scores above a certain threshold
  • Feedback from participants on the effectiveness of the GMP

  • Number of participants who reported feeling more comfortable participating in governance decisions.
  • Feedback from participants on the effectiveness of the GMP

Hi @jengajojo and DAOStewards team,

We fully support this Mission Request and express an interest of any form of involvement in it. As stated in our delegate profile, we have been a few, not the only, of active delegates from Japan and increasing the active members from underrepresented groups (particularly for Japan, there are many enthusiastic users and traders but their voices are not captured enough) should be definitely an area that any DAO should work on.

As a newly joined member, we can be a good candidate as a mentee but eventually would be great for a mentor as well.

Again, full supportšŸ«° from us. Thanks for drafting the Request.

Hey @jengajojo,
Thanks for a well-thought Mission Request.

Will the Mission Applicants be like teams who can develop the GMP? OR Mission Applicants will be four mentees who are interested in the program?

Thank you for the question @Chain_L

Applicants will be delegates/teams who can develop their own curriculum and mentor newbies with that curriculum. There can be a maximum of 4 delegates/teams selected with their own curriculum to mentor newbies.

Thank you for the clarification.

Now the Mission Request makes more sense.

Will the delegates/teams also take workshops, one-on-one sessions and ensure the curriculum they have developed reaches to the new users?

Or they just need to collaborate with experience delegate and create GMP and their Mission is fulfilled?

The curriculum must be customized for new delegates, however experienced delegates can join these sessions as well. It is upto the delegate/delegate teams delivering this curriculum to decide the inclusion criteria for their course

Hey @jengajojo

Jumping into Optimism governance was quite a maze for me at first, but the more I dive into it, the more it captivates and excites me. Your idea for a Governance Mentorship Program? Absolutely spot-on and something I feel a real kinship with. Count me in as a delegate whoā€™s all for it. This initiative is going to be a game-changer for making governance feel more welcoming and bringing in a tapestry of new voices and ideas.

Cheering you on with full support!

Thank you for proposing the great plan.
Optimism governance is a complicated way to get involved, and our team is no exception.
In this way of direction, 1 on 1 mentorship would be helpful for the people who are new to join the governance system to understand and deep dive into it.
We are curious about what itā€™s like to be the 1 on 1 mentorship of governance.
Do you have any plans or goals to measure the impact of these educations and supports?
For example, in this case, if people who completed the governance program, could become the delegates and something like that.

New governance members and passing of experience allows for a community to stay healthier, as well as bring new perspectives and discourse. Really excited to see what this brings!

I am an Optimism Delegate with sufficient voting power and I believe this proposal is ready to move to a vote.

@Oxytocin
We agree that improving governance and educating newcomers about Op Gov is crucial. Weā€™ve uploaded a Mission Request for a ā€œDelegate Engagement Programā€, and we are looking for Delegate sponsorship. Given your enthusiasm for such initiatives, we believe you might find our proposal particularly interesting.

Iā€™ll be honest, I donā€™t really understand the point or scalability of this. It also strikes me as a purpose-made mission to benefit the proposer.

In general, there is absolutely no need to be funding this kind of work.

Is it 40k per applicant or 10k?

My suggestion is 10K per applicant

These proposals are the same and need to be combined: [DRAFT] Governance Mentorship Program Mission Request - #12 by dmars300

Both proposals are similar. Currently, @jengajojo and I are talking to synthesize them. Will update when done, thanks for the followup!

As @jackanorak said, the scalability would be an issue but as an experiment, we still believe this Request can be the good first step to find out what actual issues to be addressed in mid-long term.

We are an Optimism delegate with sufficient voting power and believe this Request is ready to move to a vote.
