Season 8 and 9 Election Information

Welcome to the Optimism Governance Season 8 Elections!

Below, you’ll find all the key information you need to know regarding elections.

For Candidates

There are three different elections happening for Season 8 and 9 - namely the Grants Council, Developer Advisory Board, and Milestone and Metrics elections.

Below is relevant information for each election:

If you’re interested in becoming a candidate:

• Review the Charter for the Council or Board you’d want to self-nominate for (listed above).
• Visit atlas.optimism.io/governance and complete your self-nomination in OP Atlas. In order to officially self-nominate, candidates must:
  • Sign up with OP Atlas (atlas.optimism.io)
  • Connect any accounts and verified wallets to show relevant attestations
  • Complete self-nomination for your desired role (found under the Governance tab)
  • Comment a link to your self-nomination in the relevant forum post

• The self-nomination window is from July 3rd - July 14th. The deadline to self-nominate via Atlas is 19:00 GMT on July 14th.

For Voters

• July 14th-17th: There will be a ~3 day period for candidate review before voting begins.
  • You can view all the candidates at atlas.optimism.io/governance
• July 17th-23rd: Vote for candidates!

Note: All deadlines at 19:00 GMT.

As a reminder, in the case of approval/ranked choice elections, voters may vote for themselves, so long as they also cast votes for the remaining elected positions.

Example: I can vote for my own candidacy on the Final Reviewer team of the Grants Council, so long as I also cast 3 additional votes (a total of 4 votes, as there are 4 open positions on this team).

Additional information

As a reminder, per the Collective Representative Structure Framework, “Representatives should only serve in one elected position per Season. There are no term limits for representatives, but they may be implemented in the future if the need arises.”

Additionally - the Foundation will not be hosting any Town Halls for candidates this Season. Any member of the community may choose to host a Town Hall.

Please note: All of the contributor roles and associated rewards described here are intended for independent and engaged community members who volunteer to provide their knowledge and expertise to the Collective and receive an honorarium in the form of OP. These volunteers are not employees of the Collective, the Foundation, or any of its affiliates for any purpose.

An update to the Season 8 and 9 election process - for any Council / Board where there are greater than 4x the amount of nominees per position, four top 100 delegate approvals are required to reduce the number of candidates.

This ensures that only the most qualified candidates remain eligible while reducing the cognitive overhead on voters.

For the Season 8 and 9 elections, this only applies to the Operations role on the Grants Council.

To make this process as simple as possible, we’ve created a new Grants Council Operations Role Delegate Approval Thread.

As a Top 100 delegate, please comment your approval for any candidates in the Operations role by commenting this in the above thread:

All delegate approvals must be completed by Tuesday June 22nd at 19:00 GMT. At that time, all candidates who didn’t receive four approvals will be removed from the election database.
