Specification

How will this Delegate Mission Request help accomplish the above Intent?

The best way to learn is by doing and the Quest & Education infrastructure will make it easier for real users to onboard, learn, and actively explore Optimism and the Superchain. Moreover, it will allow emerging, non-DeFi, related projects to identify and connect with the ideal users for their protocol or dApp. The infrastructure should be precise in nature, allowing users to express their preference for which parts of The Superchain they want to explore.

Please explain alignment with the relevant Intent:

Over the past 12 months, there have been over a dozen new Layer 2 solutions released. Users and builders are overwhelmed with more places to transact and build. The intent is to onboard more users to the Optimism network by improving how they engage with practical use cases.

Education and Quest infrastructure, specifically catered towards non-DeFi use cases in the Optimism community, coupled with robust anti-sybil mechanisms, is fully aligned with the goal. Moreover, the mission calls for 100% of the grant to be distributed to new wallet addresses who 1) pass an anti-sybil check and 2) show repeat engagement across The Superchain.

What is required to execute this Delegate Mission Request?

In order to accomplish the goals set forth above, the project(s) should have:

  • Anti-Sybil Verification: A robust anti-sybil verification method, similar to Coinbase Verifications, or comparable solutions.
  • Educational Curriculum: A series of courses, or modules, that teach users about Optimism, and The Superchain, coupled with quizzes and a certificate.
  • Quest Curation: Integrations with emerging, non DeFi, protocol and dApps in the Optimism ecosystem.
  • Quest Creation: The ability to quickly and dynamically release Quests.
  • Token Distribution: The ability to dynamically distribute OP to users who pass the anti-sybil verification and show repeated, high-value usage across The Superchain.
  • Significant User Reach: A pre-built audience and network to distribute their Quests to the widest possible audience.
  • Co-Marketing: A robust marketing campaign with distribution across several channels.

Please list responsibilities and/or expected deliverables

  • Integration with Optimism Mainnet and Multiple Superchains
  • Significant User Reach & Quest Distribution
  • Native Educational Tooling & Testing
  • Existing Relationships with Non-DeFi Teams
  • Dynamic Token Rewarding Infrastructure
  • Integration with Third-Party Anti-Sybil Mechanism
  • Live Public Dashboard Demonstrating Impact & User Reach
  • Wide Marketing Reach

How should the Token House measure progress towards this Mission?

  • A detailed project plan including the number of Quests to be released, the timeframe, expected new user reach, user retention, and the anticipated number of transactions.
  • A comprehensive educational curriculum designed to guide users from beginners to experts within the Optimism community.
  • A concise outline detailing our non-DeFi launch partners and the process for other projects to start running Quests.
  • A clear methodology for dynamic OP rewards, aimed at encouraging repeated and high-value usage.
  • A straightforward approach to anti-sybil verification.
  • A defined strategy for marketing and the distribution of Quests.

How should badgeholders measure impact upon completion of this Mission?

  • Number of new wallets active in the Optimism ecosystem
  • Number of attributable transactions by new wallets
  • Number of non-DeFi transactions in the Optimism ecosystem
  • 3, 6, and 9 month retention of those wallets

GM @limes.eth! Kindly adhere to the provided template as there is some missing information, specifically, could you please include the link to the delegate profile of Layer 3? Also, a gentle reminder that only Top 100 delegates as of 12/6/23 are eligible to propose Mission Requests during this season.

Thank you! :sparkles:

Thank you @limes.eth for submitting this. If this mission proposal moves forward I would like to offer to connect with anyone thinking about applying for this proposal. I lead the Optimism Ambassador program which specializes in creating educational / marketing content in the Optimism ecosystem. I believe the Ambassadors could be of help here in generating the educational content inside of the quests.

Hey @limes.eth

I really like the mission. I’m a big believer in active learning.

I believe this proposal would benefit from having mulitple applicants since unlike DeFi where there are several centralization vectors like liquidity, diverse education infrastructure may reach a larger audience & achieve better results for the intent.

I am an Optimism delegate with sufficient voting power and I believe this proposal is ready to move to a vote

EDIT: turns out i’m not in official top 100, i was misguided by this Dune dashboard

Would like to second allowing for multiple applicants/grants.

I’m assuming @limes.eth is proposing this so Layer3 can apply, which is great and I think OP should have Layer3 quests.

But would love to see Optimism experiment with other types of quests as well.

We should probably gather up all the quest/education/marketing stuff and figure out how to rationalize them

Ideally all quests/education/marketing could apply under this Mission Request, what do you think?

Yep, ideally, all similar initiatives would be combined into one Mission Request that applicants can apply to

There are several categories where this is true and, ideally, redundant Mission Requests can be consolidated into one Mission Request that teams that would have applied to any of the redundant ones can apply to

I’m supportive of this initiative as long as multiple teams can apply to this (which sounds like it) given the large OP amount.

I am an Optimism delegate [Delegate Commitments - #37 by linda] with sufficient voting power and I believe this proposal is ready to move to a vote.

Not pointing towards your proposal specifically, but quests and tasks are heavily farmed, and once an event is concluded, farmers move to the next available opportunity. They are a bad metric to measure growth.

From what I understood, the most important point of your proposal is the Anti-sybil verification method, which is still open for discussion.

Could you please share your ideas on how you are planning on doing this?

How will you make sure that the tool developed is neutral, sybil is an old existing challange and interested in reading your thought on countering it, through this proposal.

Also, looking at the amount of token requested, would it be possible to share cost breakdown ?

The Grants Council has opened early submissions as an Indication of Interest for this mission request here

For your application to be considered, the Mission request must pass the Token House vote on February 14th. Early submissions will not be considered if a Mission Request is not approved on the 14th.

I like the idea but I think the amount is too high. For that reason I’ll abstain, although glad to see it going to a vote.
