Optimism Fractal Season 4

Dear Optimists,

Optimism Fractal is returning from summer break and we’re excited to embark on Season 4! We’re looking forward to reconnecting at our weekly events and invite you to join!

Optimism Fractal events kick off with our beloved Respect Game, which always provides a great time to collaborate with builders on the Superchain, raise awareness for your work, and build your reputation in the Optimism Collective. I’m so grateful for everyone who helped make the past three seasons so special and am stoked for all the amazing experiences the community will share at Optimism Fractal events in this season. I encourage you to invite friends and register on the events calendar, where you can also find weekly Optimism Town Hall and Eden Fractal events.

At this week’s Optimism Town Hall I propose that we plan Optimism Fractal’s fourth season with an open discussion. We can reflect on our achievements so far, share updates from over the break, discuss goals for Season 4, and consider topics for future town hall events. Optimism Fractal is well-positioned to make significant strides in achieving our core intents and integrate more deeply with the Collective. You can vote on the topic proposal and see how we choose topics at the town hall here.

Join us to connect, share your thoughts, and help actualize the Optimistic Vision in our fourth season. I’m excited to hear from everyone and take our next steps together. If you’re not yet familiar with Optimism Fractal, please explore OptimismFractal.com to learn more and discover how we can collaborate. If you’d like to review our progress from last season, you can see this thread and watch our recent videos.

The first events of the season are on Thursday, August 15th and we’ll meet each week on Thursday at 17 UTC after that. Looking forward to seeing you there! :sunflower: :red_circle: :sun_with_face:

Respect Game

The Respect Game is an amazing social game where players share what they did to help Optimism in friendly competitions. This provides an excellent way to get more eyes on your projects, experiment with evaluating community contributions, and make onchain attestations about your impact on the Superchain.

Optimism Town Hall

After the Respect Game, we’ll play an OPTOPICS agenda game to select discussion topics during the Optimism Town Hall. This provides an open forum to participate in governance discussions, pioneer the future of community coordination, and help lead the Optimism Collective. You can propose or vote on topics in the Town Hall snapshot space, or suggest topics at the event.

Hey all,

I just proposed the following four topics for today’s Optimism Town Hall:

:red_circle: Optimism Collective Governance

:small_red_triangle_down: Unifying the Superchain

:eye: Optimism Collective Identity

:sunflower: Optimism Fractal Discussions

Each of these topics provide space for us to have open discussions and explore educational resources that can help Optimism Fractal maximize impact for the Collective. We’ll play OPTOPICS at today’s town hall, so you can vote on these topics or propose others throughout the event. On a related note, I’m having an issue with the Optimism Town Hall Snapshot Space (which is explained in the first topic), so if you’d like to propose a topic then you can do so in the Optimism Fractal snapshot space today.

I’m curious to hear your thoughts and looking forward to seeing you at the events in a bit!

Good morning everyone, I hope you’re having a great day and are excited for this week’s events!

For this week’s Optimism Town Hall I created a topic proposal to play an OPTOPICS collaborative agenda game. This allows you to proposal any topics related to Optimism and vote on topics at any time, so feel free to suggest a topic on the Snapshot space if there’s something you’d like to discuss.

I’m also planning to re-propose some of the topics that we didn’t have time to discuss last week in the coming days. Looking forward to seeing you at the events and hearing your thoughts!

I’m pleased to announce that the Optimism Town Hall snapshot space is now verified by Snapshot Labs, which means that the issue from last week has been resolved and our daily topic proposal limit has been increased from 3 to 20. There’s also a monthly limit of 100 proposals and the space has a nice little checkmark now. I don’t think that we’ll need to propose that many topics in the near future but this does enable some creative types of Cagendas games that we can explore, such as voting on questions or faster paced discussions!

Hey all, I just proposed the following four topics for today’s Optimism Town Hall:

:red_circle: Optimism Collective Governance

:eye: Optimism Collective Identity

:billed_cap: The Hats Protocol Hatathon

 Questions and Answers Game

Each of these topics provide space for us to have open discussions and explore educational resources that can help Optimism Fractal create profound benefits on the Superchain. As per the approved proposal for OPTOPICS, you can vote on these topics or propose others throughout the event.

Each topic proposal is configured with a Weighted Voting system, so you can allocate different amounts of votes across each topic to express your preferences if you’d like. I’m curious to hear your thoughts and looking forward to seeing you at the events in less than 45 minutes!

Hey all! I’m writing here to provide an update about the new Optimism Fractal Hats Tree and other exciting technical developments:

Optimism Fractal Hats Tree

I’m pleased to announce that the Optimism Fractal Hats Tree was selected a co-winner of the Mad Hatter grand prize in the first Hats Protocol Hatathon! :sunflower::billed_cap:

A couple weeks ago I teamed up with @JacobHomanics to participate in the Hats Protocol Hatathon and we launched a great first iteration of the Optimism Fractal Hats Tree, which provides important powers for the OPF Respect token and helps organize our community’s operations. Some key functionalities of the Hats Tree include granting access to the new Optimism Fractal charmverse space and the ability to lead a breakout room at weekly events by signing an agreement onchain and earning sufficient Respect.

You can explore the features of the Hats Tree below:

Next Steps and Thanks

This is an important first step towards many more powerful integrations between Optimism Fractal and Hats Protocol. Huge thanks to Jacob for the amazing work building the Hats Tree and all the great support from the Haberdasher Labs team. You can learn more at HatsProtocol.xyz and the ‘Hats Protocol + Optimism Fractal’ telegram group where we’re planning the next steps with the Hats founders.

How to Claim Optimism Fractal Hats

If you have earned Optimism Fractal Respect then you claim your hats now to gain unique powers and help enhance our integrations with Hats Protocol!

You can claim the Rookie Hat by clicking here, then connecting your wallet and clicking the ‘claim hat’ button near the right side of the screen. If you’d like to signify that you’re ready to host a breakout room for the Respect Game then you can also claim the Rising Star, Fractalgram Certification, and Respect Game Leader hats as well.

Hats at Optimism Town Hall

We commemorated the momentous win at last week’s Optimism Town Hall event by exploring the Optimism Fractal Hats Tree in detail, as well as the new Respect-Gated networking page for builders. We also provided a general introduction to Hats Protocol and explored the Let’s GROW DAO Hats Tree (which was the other co-winner of the Hatathon Mad Hatter Grand Prize) with Let’s GROW community leaders.

This event provided a great overview of the Hats Protocol and the new Hats Trees. You can watch the episode on the Eden Creators youtube channel and explore detailed show notes at OptimismFractal.com/41. You can also learn more exciting details about the Optimism Fractal Hats Tree and Hats Protocol by watching this interview with Jacob Homanics, which was hosted by an Optimism Fractal community member named Patrick and released on his youtube channel this week.

More Technical Updates

The rate of Optimism Fractal technical developments is increasing rapidly and there are many other great updates that we’re stoked to share with you. Stay tuned for exciting details about the next generation of Respect Game apps and Optimism Fractal onchain governance protocols. These also compose nicely with the Hats Tree above to increase Optimism Fractal’s autonomy, coordination, and decentralization!

This Week’s Events

This week I proposed a new version of the OPTOPICS Cagendas game for the Optimism Town Hall and it was approved as the scheduled topic, so we can discuss more about technical updates or other topics at this week’s town hall event according to the community’s consensus and the game rules linked above.

As always, everyone is welcome to join our weekly events to learn more, get involved, and collaborate with Superchain Builders. Hope to see you there! :cowboy_hat_face:

Introducing RetroPitches! :rainbow:

Hey all! We’re thrilled to announce RetroPitches, an initiative to support Retro Funding Round 6 by helping showcase and evaluate public goods creators who are advancing governance infrastructure & tooling, analytics, and leadership on Optimism! This round will distribute up to 3.5M OP to reward these contributions :sun_with_face:

RetroPitches are friendly competitions where governance contributors can present their projects, demonstrate their impact, and advance governance innovation on the Superchain. These games provide public goods creators with a platform to showcase their work while helping badgeholders gain deeper insights into contributions being evaluated in Retro Funding Round 6.

Event Details

The first RetroPitches session will take place this Thursday at the Optimism Town Hall event at 18 UTC, with additional sessions planned for Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday next week as listed below. We’re happy to add more events if these times don’t work for you—just let us know, and we’ll do our best to accommodate everyone!

Each participating applicant will have 3-5 minutes to pitch their grant during these events. If you have a grant in RetroFunding Round 6, we encourage you to sign up in this form to select your preferred date and reserve your spot:

  • Thursday, October 31st at 18 UTC
  • Monday, November 4th at 17 UTC
  • Tuesday, November 5th at 17 UTC
  • Wednesday, November 6th at 17 UTC

RetroPolls: Onchain Impact Evaluation

To complement these presentations and create a comprehensive evaluation process, we’re also launching RetroPolls - an innovative onchain impact evaluation system. RetroPolls will allow Token House members, Citizens’ House badgeholders, and the Optimism Fractal community to help evaluate the impact of RetroFunding projects. Everyone is welcome to join the events, participate in the voting, and help recognize impactful work in the ecosystem.

Origins

RetroPitches began during RetroPGF Round 3, showcasing public goods and connecting contributors with the community. To get an idea of what to expect in the upcoming events, check out this video from our pilot season or see our past post:

Get Involved

All sessions will be recorded and shared on social media to maximize visibility for participating projects. For this Thursday’s event, you’re also welcome to join an hour earlier for Optimism Fractal’s season finale where we’ll play the Respect Game - an onchain social game where participants network, evaluate contributions, and earn onchain reputation that helps shape RetroPolls voting. You can RSVP in the event page where you’ll find the zoom link.

We’re looking forward to seeing your pitches and hope you enjoy the events!
