Democratic Topic Selection

We use innovative community agenda games called Cagendas to ensure discussions reflect what matters most to the community. This process helps us efficiently explore complex topics while maintaining genuine community input. Through formats like OPTOPICS, we enable:

  • Collaborative topic proposals
  • Democratic prioritization of discussions
  • Dynamic topic transitions during events
  • Balanced stakeholder input

Community members can help shape discussions through:

  • Optimism Fractal Respect tokens (earned through peer evaluation)
  • OP tokens (Token House)
  • Citizens’ House badges

We’re continuously refining these mechanisms to create fair, inclusive ways for all stakeholders to influence conversations. Learn more about how it works and how you can guide our discussions at OptimismTownHall.com/FAQ.

Related Events

Our discussions follow the weekly Optimism Fractal Respect Game at 17:00 UTC. While operating independently, these complementary events create a powerful learning experience. The Respect Game offers a unique platform for builders to showcase work, earn reputation, and gain additional influence in Town Hall discussions through peer evaluation.

Learn more about Optimism Fractal Respect Games in the Optimism Fractal Season 5 Thread and RSVP for all events presented by Optimystics on the events calendar.

Optimism Town Hall: Concluding 2024 & Building Across the Superchain

As we approach our final Optimism Town Hall of 2024, I’m excited to share developments that will enhance our capacity for meaningful governance discussions and ecosystem-wide collaboration across the rapidly expanding Superchain.

Following our approved proposal, Wrapping up 2024: Looking Forward Together, which received the most votes by Monday’s 17 UTC deadline, this Thursday’s Town Hall will continue using OPTOPICS with our existing topics poll.

OPTOPICS Event Format

As always with OPTOPICS, you can:

  • Vote on existing topics through weighted voting
  • Adjust your votes anytime before or during the event
  • Propose new topics in the Optimism Town Hall snapshot space
  • Guide topic transitions during our discussions

Strategic Evolution for 2025

After our winter break (December 20 - January 8), Optimism Town Hall will transition to a biweekly schedule starting January 9th, 2025. This change aligns with Optimism Season 7’s focus on Superchain interoperability and two significant proposals for Optimism Fractal.

As you can see in this post, I’ve created a new proposal to transition Optimism Fractal Respect Game events to a biweekly schedule and a second proposal that aims to evolve Optimism Fractal’s intents to match this new cadence while supporting ecosystem growth across the Superchain. The alignment between Optimism Town Hall and Optimism Fractal’s biweekly schedules will preserve our effective back-to-back event format—a structure that has successfully served both newcomers and experienced builders in the Optimism Collective since May.

These changes align with Optimism Season 7’s Intent focusing on interoperability across the Superchain. The increased time between events will allow deeper engagement with builders and leaders across various Superchain networks—from OP Mainnet to Base, Zora, Unichain, Ink, World, Celo, and beyond. While Optimism Town Hall and Optimism Fractal events move to a biweekly schedule, our community will maintain weekly connections through Eden Fractal events, available on the Optimystics Events Calendar. Eden Fractal events will advance governance, coordination, and public goods, including a new implementation of ORDAO on Base that pioneers interoperability across the Superchain.

For comprehensive context including recordings of our recent strategic discussions about these changes and Optimism Season 7, explore our “Optimism Fractal and Town Hall 2025 Planning: Strategic Evolution” article. The latest update includes last week’s thoughtful conversation about maximizing our collective impact in 2025 (which is also embedded below).

Join Our Final 2024 Session

Currently, the topics with the most votes in our poll are:

  1. Optimism Season 7 Developments
  2. Optimism Town Hall & Fractal 2025 Planning
  3. Approved Optimism Fractal Respect Game Mission

While our current leading topics align closely with these strategic developments, our flexible format ensures we can explore whatever matters most to our community. You’re welcome to modify your votes in the topics poll or introduce new discussion areas that deserve attention on the Optimism Town Hall Snapshot Space. Explore details about each of the 10 proposed topics on the agenda in the Seasons of Optimism blog post.

Join us Thursday as we conclude this transformative year and lay the groundwork for greater impact across the Superchain in 2025. Through collaborative dialogue and democratic coordination, we’re building infrastructure that enables more effective, inclusive governance throughout our rapidly growing ecosystem.

Looking forward to engaging in meaningful discussion as we chart an ambitious and optimistic path forward together!

Community Discussion: Playing OPTOPICS for Optimism Town Hall #35

Hey all! As we continue evolving governance discussions across the Superchain ecosystem, our community’s voice remains central to selecting meaningful topics through our innovative community agenda games. Earlier this week I made a topic proposal to play OPTOPICS at this week’s Optimism Town Hall event. Now, the current leading topics in the poll reflect key priorities around sustainable funding mechanisms for fractal communities, the Optimism Fractal Respect Game Research Mission, and development of the Respect.Games app.

I invite you to review the full range of topics on the existing OPTOPICS Poll and share your preferences through our collaborative agenda-setting game. As always with OPTOPICS, the topic that has the most votes at the time of the event will be the topic that we discuss first. This collaborative approach ensures our discussions stay aligned with community needs while fostering deeper connections across the ecosystem. We encourage all community members to explore the topics, vote on the OPTOPICS poll to express their preferences, and register on our events calendar to join both events today - Optimism Fractal at 17 UTC and Town Hall at 18 UTC.

Town Hall & Optimism Fractal’s Seasonal Rhythms

Dear Optimism Town Hall community,

As we approach our season finale, we’re excited to share some exciting plans and ideas that will help us maximize our impact on the Superchain in the next season.

During our latest Optimism Town Hall episode, we discussed Season 6 planning, participant agreements, and governance evolution - key decisions for community structure, seasonal rhythms, and break durations.

We encourage you to watch this video to get a better understanding of where we’re at and where we’re planning to go in the next season. These collaborative discussions set up our seasonal structure for success and positions the community for growth.

Explore highlights and RSVP for the final events of this season below :cherry_blossom:

Draft Proposals

Proposal 1: Seasonal Structure

Based on our discussions, our planning includes maintaining six-month seasons (12 events per season), one-event break mid-season, two-event break between seasons, and simple community agreements.

The last event of Season 5 will be on April 3rd, with Season 6 planned to begin May 15th after our break. This schedule allows us to avoid returning on Thanksgiving in Season 7, aligns with our two-year anniversary in October, provides development time between seasons, and creates natural seasonal rhythms for our community.

Optimism Town Hall seasons are planned to operate on the same schedule :classical_building:

Proposal 2: Community Agreements

We’re also planning to propose a simple community agreement starting in Season 6. This will start simple with consent for recording and sharing event videos, clarifying that participation doesn’t entitle funding, and providing basic community protections.

This foundation supports better promotion while protecting the community as we grow :memo:

Next Steps

As councilors, Dan and I will be drafting proposals about these initiatives before the last event of the season. This would include:

  1. Proposal to start Season 6 on May 15th after a two-event break
  2. Proposal to implement a streamlined agreement for sharing videos and protecting the community from liability starting in Season 6

We invite you to watch the video and share your thoughts over the upcoming week as we draft these proposals. You’re welcome to do that by commenting here, on the video, on Discord, Telegram, or join an upcoming event. While we’ll make the decisions as councilors, your feedback is incredibly valuable to this process! Dan will follow up with updates on these draft proposals early next week, so stay tuned… :seedling:

Dear Optimism Town Hall Community,

I’ve posted a topic proposal for the final Optimism Town Hall of Season 3, happening in a couple hours. This will be a special session as we celebrate our achievements, review proposals, and prepare for Optimism Fractal Season 6!

Topic: Celebrating Our Progress & Planning for Season 6

During today’s Optimism Town Hall event, we’ll reflect on our significant accomplishments in Optimism Fractal over the past six months, including our successful implementation of ORDAO, consistent Respect Games, and the countless collaborations we’ve fostered across the Superchain.

We’ll also discuss three proposals that emerged from our collaborative conversations at last week’s event (OTH 37: “Optimism Fractal Seasonal Rhythms”). One proposal has been formally submitted and is now approved by the Optimism Fractal Council:

  1. Seasonal Schedule Proposal: Starting Optimism Fractal Season 6 on May 15th following a two-event spring break. Optimism Town Hall is planned to operate on the same schedule. See the full proposal for implementation details and rationale.

And two proposals are in draft form:

  1. Participant Agreement Proposal: Implementing a simple agreement framework for Optimism Fractal Season 6. See the full draft proposal for implementation details and rationale.

  2. Change Time of Meetings: Some early thoughts about potentially changing the meeting times in our next season

We invite your thoughts and feedback on these proposals during our discussion. This is your chance to help shape these initiatives and ensure our plans for next season serve our community’s needs effectively. Your feedback is extremely valuable and much appreciated.

For additional context, I encourage everyone to watch last week’s discussion about these topics at OptimismTownHall.com/37. I deeply appreciate everyone’s participation throughout this season and look forward to seeing you all at today’s events!
