[FINAL] Rumbo Optimista - Hacia Ethereum Mexico The Event || Optimistic Road in the way to Ethereum México The Event

I would love to! See you in Telegram!

Hey. You already have enough approvals, but I want to +1 here. The request is reasonable, and although in person events don’t necessarily scale (as far as marketing goes), I think they build community in a way that purely digital experiences do not. My one concern is that it is my belief that small community efforts like these are better if they are longer term engagements, and this mission (due to the requirements) is supposed to end with Season 4. How do you plan to make sure that the people you reach with these events continue to engage after the events are done?

Hey @chaselb ! Thank you for expressing interest in our mission. This is the third round of local events we’ve organized. We started with RoadtoDevcon, then collaborated with Ledger, and now we’re partnering with Optimism for RoadtoEthereumMexico. Ethereum Mexico 2023 will be the largest locally organized event in the country. Our goal is not only to host these events but also to empower other cities to connect their local communities and in the future decentralize bigger events (I personally will love to have a web3 event for 600 people in the city where I live). We plan to make this event an annual occurrence, with a long-term vision in mind. While we only mention the first part for the current season, this initiative will continue to grow and foster networks in Mexico over time.

I have voted in favour of this proposal, the amount is reasonable and I highly support spreading the Optimistic Vision in the region.

GM everyone! We have some important updates regarding our mission. We’re excited to announce the date for Ethereum México 2023: October 21st in Mexico City. As a result, we’re laying the groundwork for the Road to Ethereum Mexico 2023. We believe the best approach is to offer the opportunity for cities across Mexico to apply for a grant to host events in their own communities.

This application form will be open until August 10th. So, if you reside in Mexico, you’re encouraged to apply and join us on this optimistic journey! Stay tuned for the announcement of the selected cities – I’ll keep you informed!

GM everyone! We received a highly positive response from the community, and it was truly exciting to receive proposals from communities situated in states where we hadn’t previously engaged with local communities. Realizing that something significant is taking shape, we made the decision to stretch our budget and reduce the grant amounts in order to have a presence in as many cities as possible. Therefore, we are pleased to announce that even though our initial goal was to cover 4 cities, we will actually be participating in 12 distinct events across 9 different cities. This expansion allows us to amplify the impact of the Road in the way to Ethereum México 2023.

Hey! here is our final update about our mission, please enjoy reading this as much as we enjoyed accomplishing it!

About us

We are the Ethereum Mexico Community, started in June of 2022.

Our main goal is to onboard more Mexican and Latin American people into Web3 and inspire builders to create in Ethereum.

We have great plans for 2023 like keep as organizing monthly IRL and Virtual workshops, teaching about Ethereum, providing scholarships for people to learn about tech and code, visiting universities across México, teaching how to become a validator node in Ethereum, mentoring and helping other cities across México to organize their own events.

Ethereum México started last June in 2022, where we participated in the #RoadToDevcon and ETH Latam in Bogotá.

This project will have a huge impact on the future of Ethereum´s ecosystem and web3 ecosystem as a public good for the community where our focus is to inform about what’s happening in Ethereum and to inspire and teach more builders and developers to build in Ethereum.

The mission

Let’s take a step back to remind what was the mission we proposed and how it will be measure:

  • 4 IRL Events with a talk focused on Optimism with local communities in 4 different cities at least 40 people. By the end of the Season + evidence of the merch delivered
  • 3 Twitter Spaces about Optimism in Spanish with at least 50 listeners. By the end of the Season.
  • 1 Educational virtual session about Optimism in Spanish with at least 60 attendees. By the end of the Season
  • 2 Twitter Threads about Optimism + Visuals. Links will be shared and the translation in English of this in a Notion Page attached.

Deliverables

Now, we would like to give you our final report about what we have accomplished for the last 2 months. We will present you our delierables in the following order, Twitter threads first, then Twitter Spaces, Virtual workshop and finally the report of each city and community we supported.

Twitter Threads

Twitter Threads about the Camino Optimista

As we promise, here you can find each tweet translated to english. We believe that we make a lot of noise in the country with this initiative, more than 24 applications but we only could support 12 of them.

Xpaces

Now, we would like to share our insights about the Twitter Spaces now called Xpaces haha (:

  1. “Rumbo a Ethereum México 2023”

This first space was an introduction of the collaboration between Ethereum México and Optimism hosted by Ariiellus (@ariiellus), here we presented all the communities and cities that were selected for the “Camino Optimista” where they told us their expectations and a presentation of what their communities mission is and what they do.

We had technical issues in the space so it was divided in two parts with a 200 attendees range.

:studio_microphone: First part

:studio_microphone: Second part

With almost 1.5 hrs of talk we could notice that the community was excited about this initiative, for the first time in our (and their) history we would empower and support them to run their own Web3 meetups across the country.

  1. ¿Qué es Optimism?”

In this space we have the first participation of Optimism en Español (OptimismESP) and Pumbi (@0xPumbi) hosted by Brichis (@brichis_) and Acid Lazzer (@acidlazzer), this space helped a lot to give a good introduction of what Optimism is, many topics where discussed such as the Optimism vision, Bedrock and its importance for Optimism, also about the actual status of Optimism and what we expect for the future seasons.

We have 250 listeners in a duration of 1:13 hours.

:studio_microphone: Listen here

  1. “Gobernanza en Optimism”

This space was focused on the Optimism Gobernance, a very interesting topic where we had again the participation of Optimism en Español (OptimismESP) , Pumbi (@0xPumbi) , Brichis (@brichis_) and hosted by Acid Lazzer (@acidlazzer), we reached many topics such as the Colective, the Token and Citizens House and the roles on each one. Also about the changes in the future seasones 5 and 6 such as Law of Chains, Joint vote, Security Council, Protocol Revenue Allocation and On-chain treasury execution.

In this space we had a POAP and we got 185 listeners in a 54 minutes duration.

  1. “Roadmap en Optimism”

In this space we discussed about the Optimism Roadmap we had again the participation of Optimism en Español (OptimismESP) , Pumbi (@0xPumbi) , Brichis (@brichis_), Ariiellus (@ariellus) and hosted by Acid Lazzer (@acidlazzer).

We started talking again about what it is Optimism and its scability solutions in the Ethereum ecosystem. Also we traveled to the past to talk about the Optimism Launch, also about Bedrock and multiple proof schemes & multiple clients. Future topics were discussed too such as the Baseline decentralization, Cannon Fault Proofs / Fault Proof System, Law of Chains and Superchain. For conclusion we invite all the listeners to get more involve with Optimism and be part of this amazing community.

In this space we had a POAP too and we got 104 listeners in a 58 minutes duration.

:studio_microphone:Listen here

:medal_military: POAP

Workshop

Our last virtual event for this initiative was a virtual session to onboard people to Optimism! During this session we covered the following topics:

  • What is Optimism?
  • Introduction to Governance
    • Token House
      • Delegates
    • Citizen House
      • Citizens
  • OP Stack
    • Bedrock
    • OP Stack
    • Law of Chains
  • RetroPGF3

Unfortunately we had only ~30 attendees during this session but it was an interesting question about how gas prices works in L2s and what is the role of the sequencer.

Rumbo Optimista

Last but not least, it’s time to talk about our big initiative so far. “Rumbo Optimista” (prev. Camino Optimista). As all here we know, one of the biggest value of web3 is the intrinsic advantages that come with decentralization, and as Vitalik and many others taught us, there are different levels of decentralization.

Mexico is BIG country (3rd of latam) and most of the times all happened in Mexico City, so how Ethereum Mexico can help to spread the word about Web3 across the country? Well here is where our community take part. With their help we were able to ran not 4 IRL events but 12 across 9 different cities!

We coordinated with different members of our team and community to host 12 events focused in different areas. From Web3 onboarding to university students, passing through community empowerment to technical talks we believe covered a wide range of topics.

The 4 events we promised to run were held in the following 4 cities:

Epic Queens Rumbo a Ethereum México

Our partnership with Epic Queen and Google Mexico was a remarkable initiative dedicated to empowering women in the world of Web3. With an all-female lineup of speakers and a substantial female attendance, the event was a shining beacon of inclusivity. It provided a platform for discussions on women’s empowerment and their indispensable role in technology, equipping them with the skills and knowledge needed to thrive in the rapidly evolving landscape of tomorrow. It was not just inspiring but also profoundly educational, marking a pivotal step towards fostering gender diversity and equality in the tech industry.

MxWeb3 Rumbo a Ethereum México

During our second meetup with MXWEB3, we found that more than half of the attendees were unaware of the various solutions for scaling Ethereum, emphasizing the need for education in this area. The engagement was highest when discussing both the general topic of Layer 2 scaling and the specific concept of Account Abstraction, as participants asked questions and sought clarification from the more experienced attendees. Carlos’s explanation of Chain Abstraction and a live demo also generated significant interest, especially among those with a technical curiosity.

Rumbo Optimista por Crypto Puebla

The Cryptopuebla event was truly exceptional, offering a diverse blend of activities that ranged from enlightening onboarding talks about Web 3 technology to hands-on DeFi workshops featuring dApps from the Optimism Ecosystem. Attendees were delighted to reunite and exchange updates on their respective projects, fostering a strong sense of camaraderie. What made this event even more special was the abundance of cryptocurrency-related merchandise, generously shared by attendees who had collected items from ETHBogotá, Devcon, ETHMexico, ETHWaterloo, and more. This heartwarming gesture not only added to the event’s charm but also strengthened the sense of community within the cryptocurrency enthusiasts present.

Camino Optimista en Mérida!

This event was very beautiful because different communities like Nación Bankless, GreenPill México, BanklessDAO and Ethereum México coordinated to make it happen. In this the organizers empower people to participate as speakers this idea was applauded by attendees because more people is starting to take part in the web3 conversation. A member of Nación Bankless gifted this NFT and at the event some attendees had the opportunity to mint their first hypercert!

Otras ciudades

We promised 4 events. But we decided to impact even more people! here is the recap for the other events

Acapulco

The first web3 event in Acapulco sparked a dynamic discussion panel focused on the potential of Web 3 to provide students with exciting opportunities upon completing their education. Students were notably enthusiastic, with many expressing their curiosity about why such topics were not included in their regular curriculum. The concept of RFG-6: Optimism Academics also piqued the interest of several attendees, underscoring the growing appetite among students for innovative approaches to education and career prospects in the evolving digital landscape.

Cuernavaca

Another city, another first web3 event. The Cuernavaca event held at UAEM university marked an exciting foray into the world of Web 3 and layer 2 ecosystems, with a primary focus on onboarding eager students. The event successfully brought together aspiring learners and seasoned Web3 enthusiasts, fostering a vibrant atmosphere of knowledge exchange. As discussions unfolded, a multitude of fundamental questions surfaced, sparking curiosity about concepts like POAPs, wallets, Layer 2 solutions, decentralization, and various untapped opportunities within this burgeoning field of study. It was a momentous occasion that ignited a passion for the decentralized future among the attending students.

FCC Rumbo a Ethereum México (0xBlocklab)

The recent collaboration between 0xBlocklab and BUAP University was a resounding success. The event provided students with a unique opportunity to delve into various aspects of web3, including ReFi and smart contracts development. Remarkably, this time, the event was oversubscribed, a testament to the growing interest in blockchain technology among the student community. BUAP University has been a welcoming host, consistently opening its doors to accommodate the increasing number of attendees. Notably, teachers and university authorities were captivated by the initiative’s inception and expressed a keen interest in learning more about the collective and the promising opportunities that Optimism brings to the table.

CDMX Antisat

We support financially Antisat to do an event at IPN University. This event marked a significant gathering in the second largest public university in Mexico. Despite the challenge of competing with another recreational event, the occasion drew a substantial crowd over two days. Students displayed keen interest in a diverse range of topics covered by speakers, with particular enthusiasm for subjects such as smart contracts development, the concept of Web 3, and cryptoeconomics. Despite logistical challenges in coordinating speakers and schedules, the organizing team successfully maintained the students’ high level of engagement throughout the event.

ETHGuadalajara Camino Optimista

ETHGuadalajara hosted an exciting event where attendees were eager to explore the Ethereum ecosystem. Just like many other places in Mexico, there’s a strong desire for more talks catering to various technical levels, more frequent events, and improved planning and promotion. The community’s curiosity was piqued by questions about rollups and their functionality,

Desierto Web3

The first-ever web3 event in Hermosillo, Sonora was a fantastic experience! We help the Desierto Web3 community to make it happened. The talks focused on welcoming new folks into the web3 world, covering topics like what web3 is, Ethereum, and Optimism. To keep things fresh and fun, there was even some music between talks. It was a great way to learn and connect with others in this exciting space

Camino Regenerativo

We teamed up with the ReFi Mexico community to host an event focused on the fascinating world of Regenerative Finance. During this event participants shared their visions for using finance to regenerate the world, showcasing exciting projects along the way. To cap it off, one member even treated us to a delightful acoustic concert and we have a Piñata!

Criptoméxico Tijuana

This is the last event we supported. This event is happening right now! So we hope to have a full update about each event in the future. But we are sure that people is enjoying it (:

Our impact in numbers

  • We promised 3 Twitter Spaces with an average of 50 attendees. We accomplished 4 Twitter Spaces with an average of ~185 attendees. So we definitely nailed it!

  • 6 threads instead of two with a lot of views and interactions.

  • 1 virtual workshop with half of the attendees we promised (we really sorry to not achieve this goal)

  • Support and run 12 IRL events instead of 4!

At the end this is a huge impact in Mexico and we couldn’t have done it without you. Thanks Optimism!

Insights across all the meetups

  • Pizza everywhere
  • Students are very interested in web3 technologies
  • Teachers are interested in RFG-6: Optimism Academics
  • People were happy to have events in their cities with this quality
  • People is excited for the Ethereum Mexico 2023 event
  • People is building, a lot of ideas around. Very involved in virtual hackathons
  • Definitely, we are gonna make it

THANK YOU FOR HELPING US CONTINUE TO GROW THE ETHEREUM COMMUNITY IN MEXICO AND MOTIVATE MORE PEOPLE IN LATAM TO BECOME BUILDERS, HACKERS AND FOUNDERS!
