📘 Ultimate Beginner Guide: How to Start in the Optimism & Superchain Ecosystem (Step-by-Step with Examples)

Hello Optimism Community!
I prepared a complete onboarding guide for all newcomers who want to learn how to start building, exploring and contributing within Optimism and the broader Superchain.
This guide is based on my own experience as a solo builder and includes examples of my work: educational NFTs, Optimism hymn, Optimism Oath, telegram stickers, a bot, an illustrated book, multilanguage book in15 languages, my GitHub repositories, and more.

My goal is simple:
:backhand_index_pointing_right: help every beginner start confidently and join the Optimism ecosystem with useful tools, examples, and step-by-step instructions.

:red_circle: 1. What Is Optimism & Superchain? (Simple Explanation)

Optimism is an L2 scaling solution for Ethereum.
Superchain = a network of OP-Stack chains that work together.

Why it matters for beginners:
• low fees
• fast transactions
• many public goods
• huge support for builders
• RetroPGF rewards for impact

:yellow_circle: 2. How to Create a Wallet (step-by-step)

  1. Download MetaMask / Rabby

  2. Create seed phrase (NEVER share it)

  3. Add Optimism network

  4. Make a small test transaction

:green_circle: 3. How to Use the OP Stack Chains

• Optimism
• Base
• Mode
• Zora
• Lyra
• Cyber
All of them are part of the Superchain.

Guide includes:
:check_mark: bridging
:check_mark: basic swaps
:check_mark: interacting with dApps
:check_mark: using OP Mainnet features

:blue_circle: 4. How RetroPGF Works (for beginners)

Retroactive Public Goods Funding rewards contributors for impact, not promises.
Beginners will learn:
• how impact is tracked
• what badgeholders review
• what types of contributions qualify
• how to start building small public goods
• examples of successful past contributions

:purple_circle: 5. My Educational Examples (useful for beginners)

To help newcomers learn more easily, here are two types of educational resources I created specifically for the Optimism community.

:check_mark: Illustrated Book About Optimism (Book #1)

This is a separate, fully visual illustrated book that explains in simple terms:
• the basics of blockchain
• how Optimism works
• what Layer 2 is
• why public goods matter
• how beginners can start in the ecosystem

The book is suitable for both children and adults.

:check_mark: Book Translated Into 15 Languages (Book #2)

This is a different book, not connected to the illustrated one.
It was created for a global audience and translated into 15 languages, helping people from different countries understand:
• the fundamentals of Web3
• basic concepts of Optimism and the Superchain
• the role of community and public goods

:check_mark: Educational NFT Cards

Visual learning cards designed to help beginners understand:
• what Optimism is
• how transactions work
• how the Superchain operates
• the core principles of public goods

These cards make complex ideas simple and easy to understand through clear illustrations.

Update: Expanded language support for newcomers

I’ve just added two new language versions of the BUILD FOR GOOD: The Optimism Way educational book:
• Vietnamese
• Persian (Farsi)

This update is focused on wider newcomer onboarding and accessibility for communities that are often underrepresented in Optimism educational materials.

Why this matters:
:globe_showing_europe_africa: Broader global reach — more people can learn about Optimism and Public Goods in their native language
:compass: Lower onboarding friction — clearer understanding of RetroPGF, public goods, and how to contribute
:books: Reusable public good — open, free, and available for translation, remixing, and local sharing

This work continues the same principle behind the project:

Build first. Share publicly. Let the impact speak.

The repository remains fully open and now supports even more entry points for newcomers across different regions.
