Hedgey RPGF grants final project updates

What does the product/idea look like today? Share videos, images, demos, and anything else that helps people see what you are working on.

Note that the accessories in the above image are just clip-art place holders. We will be commissioning artists to make accessories for Base Mainnet launch.

Tell us about any traction / adoption you’ve had over the last month.

  • We just got our testnet up today but we have been talking with many members of the Degen DAO on Warpcast and have buy-in from over a dozen members to test!

Is your product Optimism/Superchain native and will it continue to be?

  • Yes on Base, that’s why we are Based Derivatives!

How will your product/idea move the Optimism ecosystem forward?

  1. This is an art piece that incentivizes artists to create accessories. We foresee using some of the OP from this grant to commission artists. The royalties are paid to whatever wallet owns the accessory NFT. So artists have two options, they can keep their art and collect royalties or auction it off and the buyer receives royalties. We think this can have a similar but much much smaller impact than the “We Love The Art Competition.”

  2. We are members of both the Degen DAO and the Yellow Collective. Base →D[erivatives] will be an amazing way for these DAOs to engage their members and we will be reaching out to other DAOs as well. Our contracts don’t have to charge a royalty and can use a gating feature instead. So for example, a DAO could have their token gate if a user can access an accessory.

  3. This is a persistent living art project that explores provenance. Users can also edit the original image that was used to mint the derivative NFT. For example, if someone buys a derivative NFT from OpenSea, they will need to replace the original NFT image with an NFT that they own. Eventually our Dapp will track all of these changes for all NFTs.

What’s the big vision of your product/idea beyond what it is today?

This will be the first living NFT art project on Base. We want to onboard as many DAOs as possible and commission dozens of artists. Users will be able to remix their NFTs and all changes will be captured on blockchain forever.

If you win, how will you use the funding?

  • We would be able to start working on this full time to have a production ready version at the end of three months.
  • Several grants for artists to make accessories
  • Software costs (e.g. we want to explore AI animated derivatives)

If you win, what are you focused on over the next three months? What do you want to accomplish?

  • Full launch of Based Derivatives
    • Provenance Feature - show exactly how the NFT has changed over time
    • Partnership with artists & DAOs
    • Polished IPFS front end

Base →D[erivatives] is not just a technical project but also an exploration of the creative potential of blockchain technology. By enabling users to remix and create derivative NFTs, we aim to foster a vibrant community of artists, collectors, and enthusiasts who appreciate the value of unique, evolving digital assets. We believe that this project can showcase the power of composability and interoperability in the NFT space, and inspire new ways of thinking about ownership, provenance, and collaboration in the digital art world.

As we continue to develop and refine Base →D[erivatives], we welcome feedback, suggestions, and collaborations from the broader Superchain community. We are excited to be part of this ecosystem and look forward to contributing to its growth and success.

Tell us about yourself, what you are building, and why you chose to work on it.

Hi, I’m Paul - Project Manager for Gardens :seedling: - our team is a globally-distributed crew of web3 builders:

  • Felipe Novaes Rocha, Lead Developer
  • Mati0x, Lead UI/UX
  • Lucho, UI/UX
  • Kevin, Developer
  • Rodrigo, Developer

We’re building a platform for novel spending strategies! Our focus is on scientifically-backed mechanisms like Conviction Voting and Quadratic Funding, which we’re packaging in a simple but powerful ecosystem-level coordination mechanism, and a fun, friendly UI.

The first funding mechanism we built is a Conviction Voting strategy modeled after 1Hive Gardens. As contributors in the 1Hive ecosystem, we feel this platform has enormous potential for public goods and for the ROI for ecosystem grants programs, and it deserves to be rebuilt on modern infrastructure and improved to help grow the Optimism Network.

How has the last month been? What did you learn? How has your idea evolved?

Some of our key milestones from the last month in Backdrop Build:

  • Created 4 point systems for governance weight: Fixed, Capped, Unlimited and Quadratic
  • Built subgraphs and fully integrated our frontend to the smart contracts
  • Fuzz tested contracts and made some key fixes
  • Designed a refined version of the frontend to implement for public beta launch (ETA 1 month)

The creators and modelers of Conviction Voting are PhD’s in Math and Economics, so we were committed to not compromising on any of the math. This proved to be quite the challenge since we built our version on a new framework (Allo Protocol) and with new Point Systems that introduce custom governance weight.

We learned a LOT about the solidity implementation of Conviction Voting pioneered by our foremothers and fathers, and in the end we pulled it off.

Tell us about any traction / adoption you’ve had over the last month.

  • Interviewed for Season 4 of the GreenPill Podcast, which is themed “Lean, Mean Capital Allocation Machines.” Episode dropping in April!
  • Several large web3 projects with significant treasuries have expressed interest in using our platform.

Is your product Optimism/Superchain native and will it continue to be?

We are building an Optimism ecosystem on Gardens that is dedicated to attracting builders to the network. If granted this $OP, the majority of our grant will directly fund these Conviction Voting Pools.

While we plan to deploy on networks as well, our Optimism community on Gardens is and will always be Optimism-native.

How will your product/idea move the Optimism ecosystem forward?

Conviction Voting is indeed a “Lean, Mean, Capital Allocation Machine.” Our CV Pools on Optimism will be dedicated to attracting strong builders, apps, and infrastructure to the network efficiently and with high ROI.

This is because Conviction Voting replaces a lot of the manual administrative overhead needed in other grants programs with algorithmic, parameterized governance. It is a fantastic mechanism for scaling funding for the entire Optimism ecosystem.

What’s the big vision of your product/idea beyond what it is today?"

We are building to grow ecosystems in 3 phases:

Phase 1 (2024-25): web3 open source software
Phase 2 (2026-27): all open source software
Phase 3 (2028 and beyond): all public goods

By iterating on our design and UX/UI over time to make the platform more effective and more accessible for n00bs, and by consistently adding to our library of community funding mechanisms and coordination strategies for any community, we can serve as a grassroots platform that grows non-private goods for the entire planet.

If you win, how will you use the funding?

  • 80% will go to Conviction Voting pools in the Optimism Ecosystem community we’re setting up on our Platform
  • 20% will go to contributor compensation for our team.

If you win, what are you focused on over the next three months? What do you want to accomplish?

April:

  • alpha testing
  • security audit
  • gitcoin passport integration
  • proposal disputability flow
  • public beta launch
  • first Optimism Community created and CV Pool funded

May:

  • add Streaming Proposals
  • add modules to view treasury sources
  • add on-page metrics to view Pool and Community data
  • $100k TVL
  • 5+ active communities
  • 10+ active Funding Pools

June:

  • add a Quadratic Funding Strategy
  • add a Continuous Election strategy
  • $200k TVL
  • 10+ active Communities
  • 20+ active Funding Pools

Gardens has been funded entirely by grants, donations, DAO funding proposals, and hackathon winnings. Grants like this have let us stay 100% community-owned, which we hope to remain forever.

Tell us about yourself, what you are building, and why you chose to work on it.

Our team has been working hard on TrashNFTs, an innovative project built on Base that leverages the unique properties of the ERC404 token standard. Trash NFTs is an art product that combines some of the unique traits of web3 technology, such as governance, decentralized markets, and internet value transfer with high-quality artwork. We chose to build TrashNFTs on Base because we believe in the future of the Superchain and the supportive community of builders it fosters.

Our team is a lean, hungry team of close friends who were brought together by ATX DAO and wanted to build something fun and new as a crew. We had the idea for Trash NFTs as a way to combine artichokelord’s incredible artwork with powerful tech to create something fun that pushed the boundaries of what’s possible for a memecoin.

Team:

What is ERC404?

ERC404 is an experimental token standard pioneered by Pandora on February 2, 2024. ERC404 tokens embrace characteristics of both ERC20 and ERC721 tokens:

They are “semi-fungible,” enabling both highly liquid markets and uniqueness within a single asset. This allows collectors to sell their tokens when they want and in pieces, if they’d like, as well as introduces the ability to reroll your NFT traits by making more transactions.

ERC404s are inherently fractionalized and designed to work natively with existing DeFi protocols. While innovative, it’s important to note that ERC404 is also experimental.

Unlike most ERCs, ERC404 is technically not an ERC as it skipped the formal Ethereum Improvement Proposal (EIP) & Ethereum Request for Comments (ERC) processes.

In other words, TrashNFTs is a memecoin, artwork, and governance token all in one. And also trash!

How has the last month been? What did you learn? How has your idea evolved?

The last month has been intense but rewarding. We launched social media, a website, and testnet in early February, followed by mainnet launch, audits, art finalization and a hype video by Feb 9. We participated in ETH Denver and learned a lot about teamwork, setting manageable deadlines, and the importance of carefully scoping efforts before committing to ship dates.

When we first launched Trash, we forked Pandora’s contract and raced to be one of the first, if not the first project to deploy an ERC404 on Base. Pandora’s contract was limited to 5 variations of artwork, but we wanted at least 10,000 generative variations. So, we came up with the idea to create a new contract where you could stash your Trash and mint a Dumpster Diver. This contract is named The Dumpster. It is open source and available to any other ERC404 token that wishes to fork it to enable their holders to redeem their ERC404 token for an ERC721.

In addition to the ability to mint an ERC721 by depositing an ERC404, the Dumpster contract enables holders of Dumpster Divers PFP tokens to burn their ERC721 to redeem the original ERC404 that the ERC721 was minted with (retaining the rarity and token ID). A small cleaning fee (0.00042069 ETH, updatable by governance) is charged, and this mechanism can also be used for regenerating/rerolling or ‘recycling’, Dumpster Diver PFPs to get the perfect traits.

The Trash team developed the contracts and UI and launched the Dumpster contract and Dumpster Diver PFPs at ETHDenver from the Base booth during a live stream on unlonely.app.

We were also a finalist in Backdrop Build V3:

Tell us about any traction / adoption you’ve had over the last month.

We have grown to 194 holders and have generated $1.4M of volume, $14k of revenues from trade fees, and 1,654,148 DEGEN (~$45k) from liquidity mining rewards. We were also a finalist in Backdrop Build V3 (top 5% of applicants). Trash NFTs have built an effective machine: by owning the LPs that facilitate the swaps into $TRASH we capture 1% of the volume and store that in our treasury. We have two liquidity pools: 1) TRASH/ETH and 2) TRASH/ DEGEN, the rapidly growing meme token with utility in the Farcaster network and beyond. This exposes Trash NFTs to volatility, which generates more revenue because arbitrage bots stabilize the price across pools. With the recent increase in DEGEN trading over the past few days, the DAO has been generating ~$1K/day.

Is your product Optimism/Superchain native and will it continue to be?

Yes, TrashNFTs is native to Base and the Superchain, and has primarily focused community-building efforts on Farcaster. We are committed to highlighting the unique benefits of ERC-404 and building with the ethos of community ownership. This is the foundation for future projects in the ecosystem.

How will your product/idea move the Optimism ecosystem forward?

TrashNFTs is the most comprehensive use of ERC404 on the Superchain to date. By pioneering new mechanics around ERC404 and empowering the community through our DAO (Waste Management), we are pushing the boundaries of what’s possible on Optimism. If we can invest resources into this, we will be able to use what we have built to support other people interested in exploring 404s (and other cool new tech), and a launchpad for onchain art.

What’s the big vision of your product/idea beyond what it is today?"

TrashNFTs is already a profitable, revenue-generating DAO with a strong and growing community. The vision for TrashNFTs is ultimately up to them, and ideas being discussed are funding public goods (like an upcoming community clean up in Venice Beach for Farcon), incubating new technologies (particularly related to ERC404s like the Dumpster contract), and funding and executing other ideas proposed by the community to proliferate to Trash meme.

If you win, how will you use the funding?

Funding would be allocated in three key areas:

  1. Development to refine and optimize the minting/trashing experience on our website

  2. Marketing support to amplify awareness of TrashNFTs and all the innovative things the project is doing.

  3. Funding and executing ideas proposed and ratified by the community

If you win, what are you focused on over the next three months? What do you want to accomplish?

Over the next three months, we will focus on refining our messaging, building out the DAO, and investing in efforts to grow the TrashNFTs community and brand.

  1. Rebuild the website: right now The Dumpster is not optimized and the information about what the project is, is not communicated correctly.

  2. Farcon event: by hosting a beach part that doubles as a clean-up day, we will

  3. Marketing push: we rushed the release of the PFP collection, which we believe is strong enough to be its own project. The art deserves a stronger marketing push, and when people hear about Trash NFTs, they like it - so we owe it to the DAO to get the word out.

Quick update. I have the list of addresses that will be able to vote in this round and am now going through the process of putting it in a CSV and converting ENS names to wallet addresses. If anyone has any tips on how to speed that up I am all ears haha. We may begin voting a day or two late depending on how long this takes, but the start date of streams for winners will remain the same, even if they are backdated. Cheers everyone!

Hi everyone! I’ve just set up the JokeRace voting page. Voting opens tomorrow, April 3rd at 2pm est and goes through April 10th at 2pm est.

Sharing the link here to view the page: Pick the winners

I’ve added every project (double check) and whitelisted 700+ addresses from the Optimism community, including badgeholders and recipients of RPGF from all previous rounds.

If you have any questions, please share!

This next week will be the time to talk with as many people about what you are building and drum up support for your project!

Each voter will be able to place 4 votes. While this vote will signal the recipients of the Hedgey grants, if there’s anything happens during the vote not in the spirit of a fair process I’ll make a judgement call on how to handle any issues.

Cheers and good luck!

Thank you for everything! @Lindsey
This has been a really fun way to do grants, and an overall very refreshing experience. I’ve also seen the value of having concurrent grant programs running in any DAO.

Best of luck to all applicants :fire: and be sure to check out daospace :joystick:

We would like :+1: to declare any sort of coi as we were previous recipients of RPGF and will choose to abstain from the voting :ballot_box: process during the round. Please let us know if this is the best practice.

Are there rules on campaigning or reaching out to recipients or badge holders that everyone also needs to be aware about such as pro quid duo exchanges?

The Jokerace is bringing some amazing energy this experience!!!

Thanks for that!

I don’t have any hard rules on reaching out to people. Keep it fair and honest

Thanks for bringing that up. I was also a recipient of RPGF and I can see I can vote. I ll do the same: I ll abstain.

Best of luck everyone!

Hey … I was speaking with another recipient of retro PGF @jackie and they mentioned that they wanted to vote but were hesitant to do so because the smart contract on Jokerace is not verified.
We know it’s from a trusted team and all but it might help in cases like this where we are dealing with folks who have been receiving funding from RPGF who don’t want to take any security risks. Is there any way to fix this ?
