Open calls can easily generate hundreds to thousands of new users for Optimism as has already been shown by W♥TA which got over 7,000 submissions https://x.com/Optimism/status/1745310522734710853?s=20.
Exhibiting an artist in major cities during large conference is a notable accolade and will act as an incentive to reward artists minting on Optimism mainnet for the contest. I’ve shared this forum post and it’s already generated interest amongst several artists https://x.com/0x_joe/status/1754936191227424912?s=46&t=LvLC8JblZL4sDdi-GxFRyQ
To frame the scale of daily consumption of art based NFTs you can look at the success of Zora Network, Zora Network has over 100,000 weekly active addresses consuming art since the start of 2024 with only a fraction of the total artist community onboarded. If we can multiply the number of quality artists minting on OP mainnet we’ll be multiplying the amount of addresses actively transacting to consume art. https://dune.com/jhackworth/zora-network
In person events also provide an important sybil check that is preferable when looking to onboard quality reoccurring users to OP mainnet. This post is also meant to leave room for event coordinators, artists, and creators to get creative with how they choose to onboard users. Contests can be held during the event that encourage artists to create an artwork live during the event that can then be minted onto optimism mainnet. So attendees can be onboarded to collect the artwork for example. I hope this adds some clarity on the intent of this mission request and how we see it adding to on-chain users and activity.
Overall I like this idea, experimenting with merging in-real-world events with onchain obiarding, and especially this being a followup to the W❤️TA, I want to give it a chance and see what the resulting mission proposals will be.
Worth to note though, that the funds allocated in this mission proposal will be locked for a year, so this will rather serve as an incentive for someone who is doing some kind of an event in this space anyway to cover Optimism and W❤️TA. But that makes it even better, assuming we will receive valuable mission proposals.
I’m an Optimism delegate with sufficient voting power and I believe this proposal should go for a vote.
Sounds good. However, we were thinking more about what if a postulant wanted to do similar work in only virtual reality instances, metaverse, etc.
In any case, I am an Optimism delegate with sufficient voting power and I believe this proposal is ready to move to a vote.
The Grants Council has opened early submissions as an Indication of Interest for this mission request here
For your application to be considered, the Mission request must pass the Token House vote on February 14th. Submissions will not be considered if a Mission Request is not approved on the 14th.
Excellent idea ! Ensuring continuity in the visibility and engagement of artists on Optimism is the way to go.
Both on line and IRL events are useful and complementary I think
GM @toady_hawk TNS and Yellow Collective are perfectly positioned to fulfill this mission. Please review the mission proposal at the beginning of this thread and apply today. Happy to support with with the process if needed.
Sample applications:
GM, Bulls here, founder of Newtro.
Just starting to understand our way through OP’s Collective forums.
Love this proposal, Newtro could handle this , applied just yesterday!
Also im under the impression that there are not many art&nfts representatives? Would love to see more proposals like this, and ofc offer our POV in the matter, we are a collective of 100+ (and growing) of Latin American artists, we’ve been onboarding artists to the blockchain as well as doing IRL and digital activations such as collective drops, exhibitions, artists’ residencies, etc. We understand artists’ needs and we have a broad understanding of the tokenized art ecosystem.
Hope we can be of assistance! OP did for artists what many other chains didnt (:
Have a nice day!
Hello! New to Optimism but looking forward to getting more involved in the community. I tried to submit an application but have a required template field and it wouldn’t let me submit. I guess I missed this round now but would be helpful to know what I did wrong in the application process.
GM @originstory! If you have any questions about the application process, you can reach out to the Grants Council on Discord in the channel named #missions-grants. They have a really good response rate. Thank you for participating in this process, and have a great weekend!
Thanks I will be sure to check it out
