Update – Milestone 4 & 5 Complete
We are pleased to share the final update for the Optimism as Venture Studio program, developed by WakeUp Labs.
This report marks the completion of Milestone 4 (Detailed Report and Public Closure Announcement) and Milestone 5 (Long-Term Commitment).
Overview
Through this program, we provided product discovery, design, technical research and development to help DAMM Capital (selected startup) deploy, and scale efficiently on Optimism Mainnet.
Throughout the past months, we worked closely with them to design, develop, and deliver the full product experience for DAMM on Optimism.
The project introduces an advanced DeFi infrastructure layer, increasing composability and potential blockspace usage on Optimism.
Below we include a demo video showcasing the final product, its core features and the flows implemented for Optimism Mainnet testing.
Our collaboration with DAMM Capital included:
-
Product and technical discovery to align architecture and user experience with Optimism Mainnet.
-
Full UX/UI design of the product.
-
Integration flows and frontend preparation for Optimism deployment.
-
Continuous progress tracking, documentation and milestone verification.
Achievements
-
Full product development: From discovery to design and deployment, we built the complete DAMM platform, including the Funds modules, portfolio and Optimism integration flows.
-
Optimism Mainnet testing and handover: We successfully tested the full DAMM product on Optimism Mainnet and delivered the project to the DAMM Capital team for deployment. The product is ready for public launch and we’ll continue monitoring on-chain activity and performance metrics as part of our follow-up commitment.
-
Ecosystem contribution: The project expands on-chain financial tooling and composability within the Optimism ecosystem.
-
Collaborative process: The venture studio model proved effective for focused incubation, enabling one high-impact project to reach production quality within the grant timeframe.
-
Public impact: DAMM’s deployment contributes to Optimism’s mission to increase meaningful blockspace usage, and developer activity.
Metrics and success measurement
As defined in the mission milestones, the impact metrics for this program, such as on-chain activity, transactions, and gas usage will be evaluated once DAMM Capital decides to move the product into public production.
At this stage, the full version of the platform has been delivered and tested on Optimism Mainnet, and DAMM now holds ownership of the production deployment.
Learnings and Future Opportunities
Throughout the development we gained valuable insights that will help refine future versions of the Venture Studio model and the DAMM Capital product itself.
During the process, several technical and organizational learnings emerged:
-
Technology and integration choices:
The initial plan to use Fireblocks was later replaced by Privy, which turned out to be a more suitable solution. Privy allowed us to integrate social login, smart accounts and injected wallets in a lightweight and flexible way, significantly improving the onboarding experience and reducing setup complexity.
-
Technical coordination between teams:
Collaboration between WakeUp Labs and DAMM Capital was strong overall, but since the backend was initially developed by DAMM, the early phase required a complex transition period with frequent back-and-forth adjustments. This experience showed that while shared development can work effectively, it often adds coordination overhead.
Beyond these process insights, we also identified key features worth exploring in future iterations to expand the platform’s functionality and improve the user experience:
-
Cross-chain deposits within the Superchain:
Integration with cross-chain protocols would allow users to deposit from other OP Stack networks without manually bridging assets to Optimism, reducing friction and broadening the potential market.
-
In-app swaps inside smart accounts:
Enabling token swaps directly within the user’s wallet would streamline transitions between different funds/vaults, enhancing liquidity flow and user convenience.
-
Direct LP Token transfers:
Allowing users to transfer their LP Tokens between wallets or accounts could improve composability and secondary market dynamics.
-
User transaction history visualization:
Adding a clear transaction history view would increase transparency and user control, improving the overall UX and trust in the product.
These learnings reflect both operational lessons from the program execution and technical opportunities to continue evolving DAMM Capital’s product on Optimism.
After successfully completing this project on Optimism, DAMM Capital is already thinking on new versions of its platform, continuing to build and expand within the Optimism ecosystem.
These results demonstrate the long-term value and scalability of the venture studio model as a mechanism to incubate and accelerate impactful projects.
Long-Term Commitment
As outlined in our proposal, WakeUp Labs remains committed to supporting DAMM Capital for at least two years.
We’ll continue providing advisory support, monitoring metrics and assisting in future product iterations as it evolves on Optimism.
We’re grateful for the opportunity to pilot this model with Optimism and for the trust placed in our team. We believe this initiative demonstrates how focused, high-quality development support can accelerate impactful projects on Optimism, turning ideas into live products that contribute to the Superchain’s long-term growth.
