Ml_sudo - Delegate Communication Thread

Season 7 (1H 2025)

It’s really hard to make good judgements on who to vote for because the format of the nomination posts is so 2-dimensional. One day I hope we develop richer ways of quickly distinguishing between candidates’ value propositions, so that voting is fairer, i.e. based on merit and contributions rather than brand name.

Importantly, instead of voting for individuals as if they compete with each other, I will vote as if I’m voting for a portfolio of people who complement each other.

I will try to minimize too much overlap in skills, because the councils require a broad skill set to do its job well in our multidimensional and fast-changing industry.

I will also focus on matching the Season’s specific priorities (Intents) with candidates that match those.

Forgive me if I miss some good candidates because of above rules of thumb.

These lists represent my preliminary thoughts; my final vote may differ if I come across new information.

Security Council Cohort B

  • L2Beat as uniquely qualified from a technical standpoint

  • Coinbase as a highly interested and well-resourced Superchain operator, and is naturally motivated to meet the season’s DeFi TVL and interop intents

  • ml_sudo (myself) meets the requirement of being security-focused, having broad operational and executive skills, and has experience in DeFi (Synthetix). Is also an individual free from the conflicts of interests naturally faced by profit-seeking or donation-dependent entities.

Polynya made a similar point about balancing orgs vs individuals in his vote. If our security council is dominated by organizations, it may be difficult to stay credibly neutral, which may jeopardize our scaling ambitions.

Foundation Mission Team on the Developer Advisory Board

  • Skeletor from Wonderland and Danyal from Base due to how actively they build on the OP stack

  • Ed due to his work leading DAB operations; I think operations and comms are an undervalued contribution when working in decentralized ecosystems

Governance Mission Team on the Developer Advisory Board

  • Jepsen and blockdev due to their work in cryptography and security

  • Will and Iain due to their experience building protocols (Base and Zora)

To be honest, I am nervous having Coinbase spread out over so many councils, but it’s something we have to figure out as a community - do we want to architect governance so that other protocols can reach similar levels of influence/partication, in order for OP to maintain neutrality? A question for a future cycle.

Audit Request Team on the Developer Advisory Board

  • noah.eth, unsafe_call, m4rio.eth, and gjaldon

This was the easiest committee to vote for because of the obvious fit between these applicants’ skills and the role’s requirements.

Milestones and Metrics Council Reviewer Elections

  • v3naru_Curia because of an obvious fit with their day job at Curia (dao decision-making)

  • SEEDGov. Their background isn’t specialized in grant-making but given their broad experience across different roles int the OP ecosystem, they may be able to do a good job of wholistically reviewing impact across the ecosystem. They’ll have to prove that they can pick up the requisite skills in this season

  • AnthiasLabs because their experience in Defi design means that they could be well-placed to evaluate if we are meeting our DeFi/TVL intents for the season

  • LauNaMu because they have a long history of contributing to OP, and has a broad portfolio of metrics/impact type work

Grants Council Final Reviewer Elections

  • jackanorak, MattGov.eth, Michael, MoneyManDoug because of their track record on grants and their work on DeFi

  • GFX Labs due to their exposure to many ecosystems and being able to bring their experience over to OP. That being said, they have been on the Grants Council since Season 4, and next season I hope to see them rotate into another Council so that there is freshness of opinions in our councils

Grants Council GrantNerd Elections

  • mastermojo due to their experience with grants and especially DeFi

  • Brichis and Sov due to their experience with grants

  • Jrocki due to their early and ongoing participation in OP, giving broad perspective
