[Mission Request] Subsidized Audit Grants V2

Delegate Mission Request Summary

This mission request repurposes the budget from this Mission Request and is a continuation of last seasonā€™s Mission Request. The goal remains to gather smart contract auditors to provide subsidized audits for promising projects selected by the Grants Council.

Current process:

  • Auditors apply for a budget.
  • Grants Council (GC) approves the budget.
  • Projects apply for an audit, requesting to use the approved budget.
  • GC approves the audit.

New process:

  • The GC proposes a general audit budget.
  • Auditors eligible to apply are pre-whitelisted by the GC.
  • Auditors apply for specific audits and directly draw funds from the mission request (MR) budget.

The aim of this mission is to eliminate the need for pre-approved budgets, streamlining audits to be treated the same as any other grant approved within our system.

S6 Intent

Intent 3A

Proposing Delegate/Citizen

Anthias Labs
Gonna.eth

Total grant amount
500.000 OP

Should this Mission be fulfilled by one or multiple applicants?

Multiple

How will this Mission Request help accomplish the above Intent?

This Mission Request will help accomplish Intent 3A (helping the Collective grow the number of active developers across the Superchain) by helping with the cost of audits for new projects launching in the Optimism ecosystem. By assisting with the cost of audits for nascent but promising projects, we can grow the number of sustainable projects and developers across the Superchain.

What is required to execute this Mission Request?

To execute this Mission Request, we will need a pool of qualified auditors, several of whom supported this initiative and its applicants in Season 5. Additionally, we will establish a system to assess how auditors become whitelisted. This evaluation will primarily be handled by our team at Anthias Labs and M4rio.eth, who serve as the Audit Reviewers for the Grants Council in Season 6. Additionally, a third voter will be incorporated by the Developer Advisory Board. Lastly, we will handle a pool of eligible projects to apply for audit grants. Given the strong adoption of this program in Season 5, we do not anticipate any issues for Season 6

How should governance participants measure impact upon completion of this Mission?

  • Milestones
    • Page with qualified auditors elected
    • Application to become whitelisted in place
    • Application to request and audit in place
  • Metric:
    • Number of active addresses interacting with granteeā€™s (audited) contracts
  • Impact
    • Usage data (per-project) for funded projects
    • Total TVL and/or fees generated by funded projects
    • Total team members of teams funded for audit grants that are now building across the Superchain

Has anyone other than the proposer contributed to this Mission Request?

No

Which metric will the success of this Mission Request be evaluated against?

The North star metric against which this Mission Request should be evaluated is # of active addresses interacting with granteeā€™s contracts, as this Mission Request plans to grow the number of active developers on the Superchain through the adoption of improved infrastructure and better open standards. This metric was suggested by the Foundation and approved by the Grants Council.

@Gonna.eth would be interesting in combining this, or working to streamline this with RPC/Oracle subsidies as well - as my goal here would be to have an overarching infrastructure subsidies group, working with protocols across OP/Superchain to improve their access to whitelisted providers

This seems like a great initiative!

Forgive me if this is a silly question, but arenā€™t audits supposed to happen before launching?

Making the north star metric the # of active addresses interacting with granteeā€™s contacts seems like it would limit to projects that have been operating for a while. Wouldnā€™t that be counterproductive for audits?

One of the best mission!
Wish we can see that more and more dapp get proper audit.

Support this!

How do the projects themselves request an audit? And do the pre-approved auditors permissionlessly draw funds? As in, if they want to do an audit they give a price and are automatically approved?

Also, any data on this audit program thus far? As in, how much money has been used on this, what audits have been performed, for what projects?

Hey Chase.

  1. Projects can go to GC Audits Hub and contact one of the whitelisted audits providers.
  2. No, whitelisted auditors apply on behalf of the project they will audit. The grants council reviews with a rubric and approves. It is the same process as the standard application but with a different rubric. You can check the form and evaluation process here.
  3. Yes everything is in the public tracker here
