How will this Mission Request help accomplish the above Intent?

The mission request to grow developers on Optimism via community events will help accomplish the above Intent through several key mechanisms:

  1. Engagement and Networking: Community events provide a platform for developers to meet, exchange ideas, and build relationships. This networking fosters a sense of community and belonging, encouraging developers to stay engaged with the Optimism ecosystem.

  2. Knowledge Sharing: Events such as workshops, hackathons, and meetups offer opportunities for developers to learn about the latest tools, technologies, and best practices related to Optimism. This continuous learning environment helps developers to enhance their skills and stay updated with the ecosystemā€™s advancements.

  3. Collaboration Opportunities: By bringing developers together, community events facilitate collaboration on projects and initiatives. These collaborations can lead to the creation of innovative applications on the Superchain, driving the growth of the ecosystem.

  4. Inspiration and Motivation: Exposure to successful projects and thought leaders within the community can inspire and motivate developers to contribute to the Superchain. Hearing success stories and seeing the potential impact of their work can drive greater participation and commitment.

  5. Feedback and Improvement: Community events serve as a feedback loop for the Optimism community. Direct interactions with developers allow for the collection of valuable feedback, which can be used to improve the developer experience and address any pain points, thereby making the Superchain more developer-friendly.

  6. Showcasing Opportunities: Events provide a platform for developers to showcase their work. Recognition and visibility of their projects can lead to further opportunities, funding, and collaborations, making it attractive for developers to build on the Superchain.

By leveraging these aspects, the mission request aligns with Intent 3a and creates a thriving environment that supports the growth of application developers on the Superchain.

Has anyone other than the proposer contributed to this Mission Request?

While originally conceiving the Mission Request, I spoke with several community members at Optimism Fractal and Optimism Town Hall events who helped provide some inspiration for the idea. For example, you can see a conversation that I had with Abraham Becker about a related mission request in this video.

Additional Context and Rationale for this Mission Request

Iā€™m resubmitting this Mission Request with a reduced budget of 125k OP after previously creating the same Mission Request with a budget of 250k OP. Hereā€™s why this mission is crucial:

  1. The previous request recieved positive feedback but wasnā€™t approved, partly due to the short timeline for review.

  2. Community events are a powerful tool for onboarding and supporting developers in the Optimism ecosystem.

  3. The reduced budget of 125k OP allows for significant impact while being more aligned with available resources.

  4. These events will foster collaboration, knowledge sharing, and network growth among developers on the Superchain.

  5. The imminent release of onchain tools for organizing events, such as Respect game applications, presents a significant market opportunity for the Superchain. This mission is well-positioned to capitalize on these tools, driving builder adoption and engagement across the ecosystem.

This mission directly supports Intent 3A by creating engaging opportunities for developers to connect, learn, and build on Optimism. Feel free to reach out with any questions. Thank you for your consideration.

Hi Dan - I would recommend decreasing the budget here by an order of magnitude if this MR is to be viable.

For the metrics team to be able to compare multiple approved applicantā€™s success in this mission request we need you to propose only one metric from this table as the Northstar:

  1. Number of addresses voting for the first time
  2. Number of addresses delegating for the first time
  3. Total amount of OP delegated from new addresses using the granteeā€™s protocol
  4. TVL in the granteeā€™s protocol
  5. Number of transactions emitting event logs
  6. Number of active addresses interacting with granteeā€™s contracts
  7. Total amount of gas fees generated from granteeā€™s contracts
  8. Percentage of retained active addresses interacting with granteeā€™s contracts
  9. DAA/MAA ratio
  10. Number of testnet transactions emitting event logs
  11. Number of active developer addresses interacting with granteeā€™s contracts

Thank you. I propose ā€˜Percentage of retained active addresses interacting with granteeā€™s contractsā€™ to be the northstar metric for this Mission Request.

Hi AnthiasLabs, thank you for your recommendation. Iā€™m confident this Mission Request is viable and highly beneficial at the proposed budget, given its scope and potential for impact.

Iā€™d be happy to provide more details to illustrate its value if youā€™d like to elaborate on your perspective. For additional context, I invite you to review a related post I just shared regarding a similar Mission Request.

Moreover, the Optimism Fractal communityā€™s weekly events and videos provide an excellent example that demonstrates the value of community events.
