Track spending, project impact, and deliverables — all in one place, with full transparency and real-time insights.
TL;DR
This proposal outlines the development of a comprehensive Project Progress Tracking Dashboard for Optimism-funded initiatives. The platform will empower the community with a transparent, user-friendly tool to monitor the progress of all funded projects—whether grants, retroPGF recipients, partner teams, or ecosystem initiatives. Featuring milestone tracking, real-time updates, risk detection, and customizable alerts, the platform aims to unify oversight across all active and past projects. The total estimated cost is $5,000.
Motivation
Currently, tracking Optimism’s funded initiatives is fragmented, with updates scattered across forums, Discord, GitHub, and other channels. This lack of cohesion limits the collective ability to oversee work, evaluate effectiveness, and take timely action when issues arise.
Rationale
To address this, we propose building a Project Progress Tracker with the following features tailored to Optimism’s governance framework and the diversity of its incentive programs:
- Milestone Tracking: Dedicated pages for each project showing key milestones, progress bars, percentages, and real-time completion status.
- Real-time Updates: Continuous tracking of project activities, allowing for dynamic reporting and transparency.
- Automated Alerts: Custom notifications for delays, deviations, or scope creep via app and email.
- Visualizations: Interactive timelines, charts, and risk maps.
- Risk Detection: Lightweight ML-powered analytics to detect early signs of delay, underperformance, or misaligned output.
- Independent Oversight Layer: An automated, third-party logic layer continuously reviews project health, budget alignment, and milestone integrity. This layer surfaces anomalies or stagnation even without manual reporting, acting as a trustless watchdog for the community.
Project Overview Features
- Project List View: Displays active/inactive status, completion percentage, risk scores, and last update timestamps.
- Filterable Dashboards: Enable stakeholders to view by initiative type, funding source (e.g., Grants, RetroPGF), risk level, or steward.
Risk Assessments:
- Dynamic project health scores.
- Smart flags and visual indicators for projects that need attention.
- Alerts triggered by inactivity, missed milestones, or changes to deliverable scope.
Project Detail Pages
- Milestones & deliverables
- Funding history & current status
- Links to community discussion threads (Optimism Forum, GitHub, etc.)
Organization and Admin Tools
- Admin panel for Optimism’s Grants Council, RPGF reviewers, or designated ecosystem stewards
- Tools to configure alerts, moderate dashboards, and take corrective actions
- Permissions-based access levels (public, contributors, stewards)
Project Scope & Cost Breakdown
The platform is scoped at a one-time cost of $5,000, covering development, launch, and 12 months of basic maintenance and support. This includes:
- Front-end dashboard
- Risk detection and tracking engine
- Role-based admin tools
- Public-facing interface
- Community reporting and export tools
- Independent automated oversight logic
Benefits to the Optimism Community
- Transparency: Unified access to project progress, funding details, and performance outcomes.
- Accountability: Helps ensure contributors, partners, and grantees stay aligned with commitments.
- Community Engagement: Empowers the Optimism community to monitor, question, and contribute.
- Early Risk Management: Enables proactive intervention in risky or underperforming initiatives.
- Independent Oversight: Adds a neutral, automated layer of project and spending accountability.
By offering a centralized and transparent view into all Optimism-funded efforts, this dashboard will strengthen governance, increase operational clarity, and support a culture of performance and public goods delivery. The tool can be embedded within the Optimism governance forum or integrated into the ecosystem’s broader contributor portal.
