GovNFT Community Call Thread 3

Hi GovNFT program participants!

During the last community call, one of the topics discussed was the vote on rolling mission requests. If this passes, new mission requests will be able to be proposed during Season 6 (previously it was only possible to the start of the season.

Questions to answer:

  • What is a mission request?
  • What are some ideas for new mission requests that will help Optimism accomplish it’s goals of governance decentralization and/or more developers on the Superchain?

Recording link will be posted here after the call.

As a reminder, thoughtful responses are 20 points. Spam or low-effort posts will not count towards the point total.

Missed that call but I can answer first question.

  • Mission requests are tasks requested by the foundation to help move forward the ecosystem. It should be done withing 12months and current proposals can be found for example on github

I will update my post after the link to the call is posted.

Hi @Michael

It was good to chat on the call just now and also get to introduce myself.

Mission requests are tasks that help to move the OP ecosystem forwards and need to be completed within 12 months.

I’m not sure if you want us to research current live requests or think up new ones of our own.

Having a look at the forum I can see current live requests around developing Optimism’s position as the natural home for LRTs (liquid restaking tokens) on L2 as well as accelerating game development on the Superchain.

In terms of new ideas I do think there is quite a lot that could be done around attracting new developers on the Superchain. One obvious way (if slightly ‘carnivorous’) would be to identify teams of devs that we want and then invite / incentivise their chain to join the Superchain. This would support scaling up as well as securing dev talent.

Alternatively then some kind of outsource programme with a University (perhaps one in a lower cost environment) could be a win / win?

As ever other thoughts welcome

Thanks

I would agree with @andrewsuniverseL2 with idea of identifying teams and trying to motivate them to join us. I would even go further.

Small background about myself related to this topic. I have over 10 years of experience working, founding and working with teams in game industry. And very often the best outcome comes from working closely together with good teams. You need 2 sides motivated to succeed. And OP will benefit much more getting one great team (good example are system seller games like Legend of Zelda, The last Of US) than having 20 smaller ones.

Best,
Dasp

I missed the Token House call, but i checked them in slides, i can answer the questions:

  • What is a mission request?
A: The mission request is to assist and attract more projects or developers to join the OP ecosystem within the current 12 months.
  • What are some ideas for new mission requests that will help Optimism accomplish it’s goals of governance decentralization and/or more developers on the Superchain?
A: My personal idea is to reduce relevant costs for new projects or developers by providing GAS rebates or discounts, while providing comprehensive secondary development support and fast API services.

Question 1:I think the task is to complete it within 12 months and attract as many projects or developers as possible to join the OP ecosystem to jointly develop and create ecological applications.
Question 2:Social platform dissemination can be introduced through the rebate mechanism, and the promotion can be quickly expanded to more projects and developers.

What is a mission request?

Mission request is a community suggestion under each Season’s intent, for the entire Optimism ecosystem to suggest improvements, the mission request does not specify a team to do it, but rather it is submitted and voted on by different teams, and the Grants Committee will review which team will do it. The Grants Committee will review which team is responsible for completing a specific Mission request…

They are tightly scoped and can be accomplished start-to-finish in less than 12 months.

Mission Requests are usually made by active Delegates, but the community can also contribute, usually under the topic of Sponsorships.

For example:

What are some ideas for new mission requests that will help Optimism accomplish it’s goals of governance decentralization and/or more developers on the Superchain?

  1. Superchain Developer Education:Organise specific events, tutorials, workshops, provide a range of Op stack development courses and education etc.
  2. More decentralised governance decisions and communities: Engage more organisations in the Optimism ecosystem by designing a more decentralised governance model and collaboration model
  3. Incentivising Participation for a Stronger Optimism Collective: Incentivise governance engagement, provide more accurate analysis of governance data and reward governance participants
  4. Grants analysis: Researching different funding models to make Optimism’s funding model more sustainable
  5. Growth of Superchain Applications:Fund new hyperlink apps with a detailed Milestone funding plan, and think about keeping apps in the Optimism ecosystem for the long term.

I missed the call but i read in sildes!

  • What is a mission request?
Ans: Mission requests are proposals within each season’s Intent aimed at enhancing the Optimism ecosystem. These proposals are designed to be focused and achievable, with a clear timeline that ensures completion within 12 months or less.
They serve as predefined grant requests that align with the broader goals of the Collective Intents. While the mission request outlines what needs to be done, it does not assign a specific team to carry it out.
Although active Delegates typically create mission requests, community members are also encouraged to contribute their ideas and proposals.* What are some ideas for new mission requests that will help Optimism accomplish it’s goals of governance decentralization and/or more developers on the Superchain?

  • What are some ideas for new mission requests that will help Optimism accomplish it’s goals of governance decentralization and/or more developers on the Superchain?
    Ans:

  • Governance Toolkits: Build tools that simplify voting and proposal tracking to boost community participation in governance.

  • Superchain Developer Education: Offer workshops, tutorials, and grants to onboard and support new developers building on the Superchain.

  • Delegate Mentorship: Create a mentorship program for new Delegates to strengthen governance decentralization and informed decision-making.

  • Cross-chain Developer Grants: Provide grants to developers building cross-chain applications that enhance Optimism’s interoperability.

  • Proposal Incubator: Launch a community-led incubator to help refine governance proposals, encouraging broader and more diverse participation.

missed the call and just finished a quick read here is my answer :

What is a mission request?

A mission request is basically a proposal to get specific things done within the Optimism ecosystem within 12 months, like boosting developer growth or improving governance. These requests ask for resources or grants to be allocated to projects that help achieve big-picture goals. The Optimism Foundation or Grants Council comes up with the request, and then the Token House decides whether to approve it. Each request lays out the purpose, budget, and requirements, and also tracks how well things go.

What are some ideas for new mission requests that will help Optimism with governance decentralization and/or get more developers on the Superchain?

  • Decentralized Grant Review Tools: Propose building tools that let the community help evaluate grant applications. This would spread decision-making power, pushing toward decentralized governance.
  • Developer Training Programs: Offer grants to fund bootcamps or workshops to help new developers learn to build on the OP Stack and Superchain. This would bring in more devs to the ecosystem.
  • Cross-Chain Governance Tools: Suggest tools that make it easier to participate in governance across multiple OP Chains, which would help scale up decentralized decision-making as the Superchain grows.
  • Superchain Dev Tools: Encourage the creation of better tools that make it easier for developers to build and manage apps on multiple OP Chains. This would get more devs involved and make things run more smoothly.
  • Community-Led Security Audits: Fund community-driven security audits for projects built on the OP Stack. This spreads responsibility and ensures everything stays secure while still keeping things decentralized.
  1. A mission request refers to a specific proposal put forth by community members aimed at achieving key objectives within the Optimism ecosystem. These requests focus on promoting governance decentralization, enhancing community engagement, and increasing developer participation in the Superchain. By articulating clear goals, mission requests help guide collective efforts and foster collaboration among stakeholders.

  2. To support Optimism’s aims, several innovative mission requests could be considered. One idea is to establish developer incentive programs that offer grants or bounties for contributions to open-source projects on the Superchain. Initiatives like hackathons could stimulate creativity and competition, rewarding developers for their impactful solutions. Additionally, organizing community governance workshops would educate members about governance processes, encouraging broader participation. Mentorship programs could also be beneficial by connecting experienced developers with newcomers, facilitating knowledge sharing and easing the onboarding process. Finally, developing user-friendly governance tools would simplify participation in decision-making, making it easier for community members to propose and vote on initiatives, ultimately strengthening the governance framework.

Hi - Bonjour !
My answers :

  1. What is a mission request?

A mission request is like a big goal or task that the Optimism community decides to work on. It’s a way to focus efforts on important things that will help Optimism grow and improve.

  1. Ideas for new mission requests:
  • Create easy-to-use tools for people to join in Optimism’s decision-making
  • Make a program to teach new developers how to build on Optimism
  • Make a simple guide to explain Optimism’s governance to newcomers
  • Create a mentorship program to help new projects on Optimism
  • Build tools to help people from different backgrounds participate in governance
  • Start local Optimism groups in different cities to spread the word
  • Make it easier for other blockchains to connect with Optimism’s Superchain

These ideas aim to get more people involved in running Optimism and to attract more developers to build on it. The goal is to make Optimism bigger and more spread out, so it’s not controlled by just a few people.

Hi~

What is a Mission Request?

A mission request is a proposal within the Optimism ecosystem aimed at achieving specific objectives. These requests are designed to be focused and achievable within a 12-month timeframe. They serve as predefined grant requests that align with the broader goals of the Collective Intents. While the mission request outlines what needs to be done, it does not assign a specific team to carry it out. Instead, different teams can submit proposals to complete the mission, and the Grants Committee reviews and decides which team will be responsible.

I’ve been waiting for several days, but haven’t seen the replay video yet, so I haven’t figured out how to answer the second question for now.

  • What is a mission request?

Mission requests are initiatives that could be completed from start to finish within the season’s timeframe. These weren’t meant to be ongoing services or endless projects, but specific, actionable plans that could be wrapped up by the season’s end. Each mission needed to align with the greater Intent it was part of and approve only those that would truly advance that Intent carefully.

  • What are some ideas for new mission requests that will help Optimism accomplish it’s goals of governance decentralization and/or more developers on the Superchain?

to help governance decentralization why not expand the role of community contributors like for example the translators, think of them as messengers in diff. part of the world with the right tools, and education, Translators may help ensure that proposals from different regions are understood in a cultural context. They can localize not just the language, but also the tone and content of proposals to resonate with different cultural groups, increasing the relevance of governance decisions across various communities.
