:writing_hand: Forum Highlights

  • Joan’s RPGF4 Reflections

Joan reflected on her experience as a reviewer and appeals reviewer for RPGF4, emphasizing the shift toward a more metrics-based evaluation and smaller, targeted rounds. She applauded the experimental approach of Optimism but pointed out limitations in relying strictly on quantitative metrics, which sometimes hindered the use of human judgment. Joan highlighted ambiguities in reviewer instructions and the need for better software tools, such as clearer guidelines and an improved user interface, to enhance the review process. She suggested that feedback from human reviewers should inform automated processes, and the software used for reviews should be tested more thoroughly in future rounds.

  • Developer Advisory Board - S6 Internal Operating Procedures

The forum post outlines the internal operating procedures for the Season 6 Developer Advisory Board, detailing how it will govern its activities and support various entities within the Optimism governance structure. The procedures include the review process for mission applications, provision of technical feedback, protocol upgrade evaluations, and efforts to discover new ways to support the community. • Tribuni Alpha Launch: Telegram Mini-app Built by Delegates for Delegates

David Zhou announces the alpha launch of the Tribuni Telegram Mini-app, designed to streamline governance for delegates. Recognizing the challenge of staying current with significant volumes of information, Tribuni offers delegates alerts on live proposals, summaries, and updates across various superchain ecosystems, including Optimism, Synthetix, and Frax. This app emerged from ETH Denver 2024 hackathon and leverages Telegram’s mobile-first interface to consolidate updates, reducing the need for multiple tools. The post extends gratitude to beta testers and the Grants Council for their support, inviting users to join the app and a Telegram group for feedback and support with the invite code “POTATO.”

  • Voting Cycle Roundup #24

The 24th voting cycle for Optimism began on June 27th and runs until July 17th, with a snapshot of delegate voting weights taken as votes go live. This cycle includes a variety of mission requests under Intent 1 and Intent 3, such as Cross Chain Voting, Research Frameworks, Grant Programs Analysis, and developer tools aiming for decentralization and boosting application development on the Superchain. Citizens’ House will have the opportunity to veto any approved upgrades between July 18th and 24th, ensuring a robust governance process. Detailed guides are provided for voting on these mission requests, prioritizing efficient allocation and impactful outcomes.

  • Season 6 Anticapture Commission Lead Nominations

In preparation for Season 6, the Anticapture Commission is calling for nominations for its Commission Lead. The Lead must meet specific qualifications, draft internal procedures, organize regular meetings, execute delegation votes, author reports, assess delegate qualifications for the following season, and serve as a tie-breaker when needed. Members of the Commission who wish to be considered for the position must self-nominate by posting a completed self-nomination template by July 10th. The election will take place via a majority vote within the Commission’s Telegram group over a 48-hour period.

  • [Mission Request] Marquee governance hackathon

The forum post titled “[Mission Request] Marquee Governance Hackathon” outlines a proposal to host a significant hackathon aimed at attracting developers at the idea stage to the Superchain ecosystem. The proposing delegate, Jackanorak, suggests this hackathon as a major recruitment event to serve as a marketplace for ideas and talent. The event is to be organized in partnership with a trusted entity, requiring a 50k OP grant and prioritizing in-person participation. The proposal highlights the necessity for experienced applicants and strategic awareness efforts. The completion timeline is set within six months post-application approval. Key metrics for measuring the hackathon’s success include the number of applicants, sponsors, projects, and funds raised. The post also notes that this mission proposal has not involved other contributors nor engaged a grant-as-a-service provider.

  • [Request for feedback] Building a Farcaster frame as a governance tool to facilitate matchmaking between OP holders and delegates

A small team, supported by Raid Guild, is developing a Delegate Match Application (DMA) for the Optimism community, drawing inspiration from Voting Advice Applications (VAAs) used in European politics. The DMA aims to help OP token holders find compatible delegates by answering a series of questions about key issues, similar to how VAAs match voters with political parties. This project seeks to increase the delegated supply of OP tokens to active delegates and strengthen the alignment between delegates and token holders. Community members are invited to provide feedback on potential matchmaking topics and participate in interviews to guide the app’s development. Topics include commitment versus professional background in delegates, funding preferences, decentralization pace, balance between VC ventures and OSS funding, delegate communication, and demographic matching.

Key responsibilities include content development, onchain interactions, community engagement, and continuous improvement of educational materials. The mission’s impact will be measured through milestones and metrics focused on developer participation, onchain transactions, feedback, retention, and the quality of new applications developed. This initiative builds on feedback and inspiration from the Optimism Fractal community and previous grant discussions.

  • [Mission Request] Create and Distribute Videos about Optimism Collective Governance

This forum post details a mission request to create and distribute educational and entertaining videos about Optimism Collective governance.
