[FINAL] Dappnode: Future-proofing UI/UX of OP nodes

I think it’s related to secuencers maybe. And if we are going to have a lot of chains we also need more nodes to share security.

I think it’s worth asking here: how much of your grant request is going to go to General Magic? This financial arrangement wasn’t reported in the initial application.

Hi @jackanorak. Thank you for your query.

General Magic offers an operational service where we support teams in the grant application process. This service was created in the spirit of getting more public goods projects to apply for grants that would not have otherwise done so --either because they are unaware such grants existed or don’t have the time to apply to them as they are busy building great tools in support of public goods.

Since the grant process is very time-consuming and quite frankly most projects don’t have the bandwidth, we created an outsourced service where we research and write grants for public goods projects and are only compensated if we win a grant. You can find details of this service and the terms here.

We don’t believe this is against any rules that we have seen. We have read all the guidelines extensively and followed them competently.

Grant writing via General Magic is simply an operational service utilized by the project, e.g., even if a project researches and writes their grants in-house, they would need to dedicate dozens of team hours to the process, which they usually just account for in overhead costs and don’t include in the grant application.

You may have seen my own name, for example, posting proposals on behalf of a couple projects including Dappnode and DAOstar. These projects have zero connection to each other apart from their use of General Magic simply to support their grant writing.

As you know, General Magic is part of the Giveth Galaxy (for more info, see Griff’s explanation here), which is a vast community of gifted builders and creators focused on developing public goods across numerous independent DAOs and projects. I am honored and grateful to be part of such a community that truly believes in supporting the visions of other projects that are part of that inclusive, for-good mission. We are also grateful to Optimism for giving all of these DAOs and projects the opportunity to invest in that mission through requesting the much-needed support to help move them forward and become part of the Optimism vision.

I voted yes on this proposal, heavily leaning on my colleague Jordan Clifford’s input as well as I’m a fan of improving user experience for nodes and the amount requested seems reasonable.

I am voting in favour of this proposal as improving UI/UX of node running is important and the dappnode team is the one who can do it.

Hey! Not sure if this was commented already, but the timeline here covers 6 months of work, but Missions are supposed to be fully completed by the end of the Season 4 (ending in September). This leaves only a couple months to my understanding. Am I missing something here? Thanks.

Hi @Dr.Suga!

As Season 4 draws to a close this week, we’re so excited to see how you’ve executed on your Mission! Please post an update for the community here outlining the milestones you’ve met this Thursday (9/20) by 19:00 GMT. Please include links to any final work products as we’ll create a final roundup linking to all Mission deliverables.

We also encourage you to sign-up for RetroPGF Round 3. You’ll be able to describe the impact of your Mission when you sign-up: RetroPGF Round 3 Applications Are Open

Thanks again for being part of this experiment and helping us build the Collective

Hey there!

Alright, after weeks of non-stop work of integration and development, we are happy to present the OP Dappnode Integration!

Ever found yourself overwhelmed deploying OP nodes? You didn’t even think this was within the range of your possibilities? Well, it’s as easy as 3 CLICKS now!

Not only this but thinking about Community Acquisition, we have included links to the main Optimism Community hangout spots: the Forum, the Discord and the Snapshot page for voting, so Dappnode Users can participate by running nodes, and get involved directly in the ecosystem too!

This UI and UX allows you to do everything you can currently do in the Optimism network in terms of infrastructure. Currently users cannot run Fraud Provers, nor Sequencers, nor Bridge Validators. There will be a moment in the future where these parts of the infrastructure will be available. It will be as easy as one more click in this UI to deploy them, if the hardware and protocol specs allow it (I’m looking at you, sequencer :unamused:).

Thanks for the update @Lanski! Please not that all Missions will be able to showcase their work tomorrow during a dedicated Mission demo day on September 28th, at 16:00 GMT on the Discord mainstage!
