I wanted to raise an issue that I think is important. I suppose that the day-to-day activity of Optimism takes place on Discord and that’s where most attention is focused, but this discourse [forum] remains a more public gateway, and often one finds threads/posts from users, curious people, etc., that don’t receive adequate attention. It would be interesting to create some incentive to prevent this from happening and to promote that people who haven’t had contact with Optimism feel welcome.

Totally agree with you. The forum should be more than just a side channel—it’s a public-facing hub that reflects how welcoming and responsive we are as a community. If we want to grow Optimism beyond just the core contributors and Discord regulars, we’ve got to make sure new voices and curious folks aren’t falling through the cracks. I’d be all for finding ways to energize forum participation—whether through grassroots incentives, contributor spotlights, or even rotating community greeters. Let’s make this space feel alive and heard.

Also, inspired by the ideas @eartuna puts forward.

I wonder how we could explore which of these ideas has the most traction within the collective and create a space to ground it in a mini-experiment.

Thanks for the offer TheDoctor, both forum and Discord communication are very important, I feel that the forum is better suited to start a full thread and communication that is more topical, while Discord is better suited to start any discussion and conversation, of course I think that getting incentives for participating in the forums is also a better idea, do you have some ideas about that, I think we can discuss

Next Tuesday the 13th at 19:00 hrs GMT, we’ll be facilitating the govNERDs Community Check-in call, a one-hour event (every two weeks) where @govNERDs (cc. @Marcus01)and others interested in the governance of the OP Collective usually meet.

I wonder if you guys (cc.@eartuna @artespraticas) would like to attend that session and use part of it to brainstorm ways to improve forum participation and so on.

I was thinking it would be good to put this together as an experiment and exploratory exercise.

Assuming that not everyone who’s interested will be able to attend next week’s meeting, I’m leaving here a experiment worksheet that can serve as an asynchronous information dump and collective brainstorming site.

I invite you all (@TheDoctor, @eartuna, @artespraticas, @put-your-name-here) to try to put into words the ‘tension’ you are sensing to better understand/explain the problem and what is needed.

Anyway, I remain attentive to your comments and at your disposal.
