Just to share that, as ‘core @govNERDs’, we will be facilitating a biweekly meeting for all those people who would like to get more involved in the govNERD contribution path.
We will start with a 1-hour slot, in an informal and unstructured format; with the full willingness to see where that takes us.
Team will hold community check-in meetings every two weeks, potentially extending to one-hour format.
Governance System Restructuring
Previous contribution model was a ‘grab bag’ approach leading to confusion and inconsistent work
Core govNERDs to receive recurring tasks aligned with their individual strengths
Contribution path restructured to clarify progression and match skills with collective needs
Core govNERDs develop contribution paths, acknowledging ongoing learning and adaptation process
Previous governance task system inefficient with too many people and unclear impact measurement.
Future governance intake process to include minimum qualification bars for potential govNERDs.
Goal to reduce wasted effort by implementing more targeted govNERDs recruitment.
govNERDs has many potential contributors but only 6 core governors, indicating need for balanced work distribution.
Community Engagement Strategy
This was our first community govNERDs check-in meeting to discuss contribution paths with flexible agenda and open discussion. We are changing the format to be a 1hr slot (instead of 30 min long).
Need to clarify Superchain participation requirements and grant opportunities.
Grants Council and Foundation to collaborate on information filtering and communication.
System Stability and Adaptability
Plan to improve governor qualification process with better upfront information gathering.
Task management system and working groups to develop improved contribution pathways.@Pumbi raises concern about governance system stability if core members change frequently.
Current governance system designed to be flexible and sustainable, with core governors handling recurring tasks. @Jrocki suggests identifying and proposing new value-added tasks that could become recurring responsibilities.
Thank you @alexsotodigital and Sov for putting this session together, it was very valuable to see the direction that the Govnerds program is heading in and all the progress that’s being made by the core Govnerds in season 7.
→ Today’s meeting didn’t have a predetermined agenda; the team decided to hold an open check-in and see what topics emerged organically.
Here some of the topics we discussed:
Citizen House Governance Structure
We reflect on the Citizen House, the definition of what a Citizen is (and if there is any difference with a badgeholder), and how that has evolved over the seasons.
Optimism governance relies on Citizens with equal voting power (one person, one vote in snapshot).
There is currently no process for adding new Citizens.
Need to clarify citizenship requirements and update current documentation.
Citizens role tend to be non-permanent and subject to periodic renewal.
Retrofunding Process Evolution
We discuss how the program has evolved and how that has influenced the culture of the Collective.
Current Retro Funding voting process simplified to selecting algorithms instead of reviewing thousands of projects
Concerns raised about potentially removing human factor from decision-making in Retro Funding process
Potential risk identified: Contributors focusing more on gaming metrics than creating valuable products
Previous Retro Funding rounds rewarded broader community contributions.
Futarchy Experiment
We share our experience participating in the experiment
