Final Events Before Spring Break: Eden Town Hall & Respect Game

You’re all invited to join two Eden Fractal community events this Thursday! These are the last events before Spring Break, which runs from March 27th through May 6th, with regularly scheduled events resuming on May 7th.

At 16:00 UTC, we’ll gather for the Eden Town Hall event - an Eden Fractal collaborative forum for fractal governance, where we explore the future of collaborative decision-making. There are no pre-proposed topics for this weeks event, so we’ll have an open discussion about whatever the community is most interested in as we head into the break.

At 17:00 UTC, we’ll play the Eden Fractal Respect Game - the heart of the community where we measure and recognize contributions to Eden Fractal’s mission of implementing fractal decision-making throughout society. This game provides a space to share your progress updates, build up your reputation, earn Respect tokens, and connect with fellow governance enthusiasts.

We’re excited to return from spring break and kick off this week’s events! We hope you all had a wonderful time and are ready to reconnect with the community.

This Thursday, May 7th, we have two back-to-back events at 16 and 17 UTC. First, at 16 UTC, we’ll host Eden Town Hall. There aren’t any pre-proposed topics this time, so instead we’ll have space for an open discussion where we can all reconnect, catch up over the break, and discuss whatever the community is most interested in. This is also when the Eden+Fractal council meets, so we can approve any proposals then if it’d be helpful.

Then at 17 UTC, we’ll play the beloved Respect Game - the core ritual at the heart of our community. This is a great opportunity to connect with governance innovators, contribute to the fractal ecosystem, and earn Respect for supporting Eden Fractal’s vision of fractal decision-making helping everyone make better collective decisions. It’s a wonderful chance to meet new and familiar faces, see what everyone’s been up to, as well as gain understanding & practice in implementing fractal governance. We’re excited to hear what everyone’s been up to during the spring break!

This is a great opportunity to connect with governance innovators, contribute to the fractal ecosystem, and earn Respect for supporting Eden Fractal’s vision of fractal decision-making helping everyone make better collective decisions. It’s a wonderful chance to meet new and familiar faces, see what everyone’s been up to, as well as gain understanding & practice in implementing fractal governance processes.

At last week’s event, the community agreed to shift to a biweekly schedule, so we won’t meet for Eden Town Halls every week as before. We also agreed to host extra Eden Town Halls on off weeks only when needed (as we did during the first half of the season). This will provide time to focus on executing work while keeping our discussions at the Eden Town Hall more focused, and we can start hosting Eden Town Halls on off weeks again whenever the time is right. We’ve posted the video on the Eden Creators YouTube channel so everyone can watch the discussion. Feel free to share any Eden Fractal-related discussions in the Telegram group. You’re warmly invited to join us for an exciting guest presentation, planning for a momentous occasion, and an opportunity for joyous collaboration.

At Eden Town Hall, Zaal, the founder of ZAO Fractal, will give a short presentation followed by Q&A. ZAO Fractal is a community of creators, artists, and builders that just marked its 100th Respect Game event after adopting fractal decision-making processes back in 2024. Zaal will also introduce ZABAL GAMEZ, a new ZAO initiative that features workshops and opportunities for builders to get involved. This session will offer an inspiring look at a successful, accessible implementation of Respect Games in the creator economy and can provide a great example for other community leaders.

After the presentation, we’ll begin planning Eden Fractal’s upcoming four-year anniversary, a milestone arriving on June 8th that we’ll celebrate together at our June 18th gathering. There’s no topic-selection game this week, so we’ll also keep open time for discussion, and you’re welcome to bring anything related to Eden Fractal and share your thoughts and questions. The Eden+Fractal Council also meets during this session, so the community can formally approve any proposals.

Eden Fractal’s anniversary fell on June 8th, and we’ll celebrate it during this week’s Eden Town Hall. Since May 2022, the Eden Fractal community has been dedicated to improving how humanity makes collective decisions through fractal consensus processes and prosocial games. Reaching four years of fractal cooperation is a historic milestone, and we’re deeply grateful to everyone who has contributed, participated, and followed our journey.

Everyone is welcome to give a speech about fractal democracy, share what they’re building in the fractal ecosystem, tell us about their experiences with fractals, ask questions, or just listen in and be a part of the experience. If you feel like wearing a funny hat or singing a song about fractal communities, that’s welcome too. We’re keeping the celebration relaxed with space for open discussions this year, a little different from the planned activities of past anniversaries, though we’d happily welcome any fun ideas you bring or share in the Eden Fractal Telegram chat.

Really appreciate the work you’re doing here the fractal decision‑making model, Respect Game, and ORDAO funding experiments are some of the most interesting governance innovations I’ve seen in the Superchain ecosystem so far.

From a DAO governance research perspective, I see Eden Fractal / Optimism Fractal as a very promising “proof‑of‑work / proof‑of‑contribution governance” prototype. If a few key pieces are improved, this could genuinely become a Web3 milestone in the “proof‑of‑work category” for governance not in the mining sense, but in the sense of voting power and influence emerging from demonstrated contribution over time.

Right now, my main concern is that the value‑add and reward system for new participants is not yet strong or clear enough. Respect is a nice reputation primitive, but for most potential contributors, especially new ones, the first question is always:

If I join regularly and do real work here, what concrete value or reward do I get beyond abstract respect…? @Optimystics @DanSingjoy

To grow this beyond a small group of governance nerds and turn it into a truly scalable community mechanism, I think the project needs some adjustments on incentives and transparency. A few suggestions:

1. Make the incentives legible for newcomers

   • Clearly explain how weekly participation in the Respect Game can lead to tangible upside: funding opportunities, OP/USDC rewards, roles, or clear influence in Optimism governance/funding pipelines.

   • Even small, recurring micro‑grants or prizes for top Respect earners each epoch would send a strong signal that “proof‑of‑work” really matters here, not just symbolically.

2. Connect Respect directly to real fund distribution

   • Use Respect scores as an explicit input into at least one real budget pipeline (e.g. a small mission, RFG, or dedicated micro‑grant pool), and publish the results.

   • This would show that fractal decision‑making is not just a social experiment, but a practical tool for democratic resource allocation on the Superchain.

3. Give high‑Respect contributors formal power and a visible path

   • Define clear thresholds where Respect translates into concrete roles: agenda‑setting, curation, moderation, reviewer/delegate‑type responsibilities, etc.

   • If newcomers can see a transparent “growth path” from new participant → consistent contributor → high‑Respect member → meaningful power / responsibility, they are much more likely to invest time.

4. Improve transparency on funding and community scale

   • It would help a lot to publish some basic data: total funding received so far (from Optimism or elsewhere), how much has gone to ops vs contributor rewards, average participants per call, number of unique Respect earners, etc.

   • For researchers and potential contributors, these metrics are important to evaluate whether this is a serious long‑term coordination layer or just a small niche experiment.

In my view, the core concept is strong enough that, with relatively small adjustments around incentive design and transparency, Eden Fractal could become a reference model for “proof‑of‑contribution governance” across many DAOs – not just on Optimism, but for the wider Web3 space.

I’d be happy to help think through these questions or co‑design a small pilot that combines the Respect Game with explicit rewards and clear growth paths for contributors, especially in under‑represented regions like India. @Optimystics @DanSingjoy

It’s Eden Fractal O’Clock: A Season of Change Ahead

This Thursday, July 16th, we’ll have two Eden Fractal community events. Eden Town Hall starts at 16 UTC, followed by the Eden Fractal Respect Game at 17 UTC. You’re warmly invited to join us for an open discussion, two proposals up for approval, and a great way to collaborate with the community!

At Eden Town Hall, you’re welcome to bring in any thoughts and questions related to Eden Fractal and the broader fractal ecosystem. The Eden + Fractal Council will also meet during this event, so the community can formally approve two proposals. First, there is a proposal to complete our 12th Season on July 30th and then take a short summer break of about six weeks (two events), returning for Eden Fractal Season 13 on Thursday, September 10th. The other proposal is to move our community events one hour earlier, to 15 to 17 UTC instead of 16 to 18 UTC. You can find the full details and rationale in this Telegram post.
