Agora Optimism Governance Feedback

GM!

Kent here, I’m the CTO of Agora. We are OP Core Devs for Governance and we build and maintain the https://vote.optimism.io/ app and the supporting Governance contracts.

We get feedback from Telegram, Discord, Twitter, even email, and after speaking with the OP team, I wanted to start this thread as as a place for people to drop in feedback about Agora. Specifically we would love feedback around:

  • New features you would love to see
  • Useability and improvement suggestions
  • Bugs or trouble you are having

Our commitment is to monitor this thread and make sure that your feedback is being heard and acted on, or for us to follow up for more clarity.

Appreciate the amazing community members that make the votes and the governance process at OP so great. Looking forward to hearing from you.

Thank you for your efforts so far. I have two suggestions for improvements that could enhance the user experience:

  1. It would be great to have notifications for new proposals that need voting, as well as alerts for when proposals are nearing their expiration.
  2. Additionally, it would be helpful if clicking on a delegate could bring up a graph and a ranking of their delegation. This feature would make it easier to track changes in their status, such as if they have dropped out of the top 100. Something similar to Curia’s:

Keep up the good work!

I think the Markdown format display could be optimized here in the interface presentation, it looks cluttered in the Personal Profile interface!

Thanks for the feedback here.

  1. What would your prefered medium be for the notifications? We currently email notifications we are using with ENS and Uniswap but haven’t turned them on for Optimism yet. Curious if email would be enough?
  2. This is great feedback, adding it to our roadmap to explore. The ability to keep, and rank delegates is something we have talked about for sure.

Thanks for this feedback! We have gone back and forth on this, it can look weird when you render it in that card and we ended up turning that off here, but you are saying it just looks broken? Feedback taken, will circle this with the design team.

I think we can do this, instead of showing ###, ** and other MarkDown Format symbols on the card, which is a bit cluttered, we can just have all English words, don’t you think?

Yup! Email would be enough for me.

Thank you for opening this thread, and congratulations on the platform; it’s so key to our governance.

I’d like to add a couple of comments on feedback about the filters that exist to view delegates.

First, starting from the simplest, I think it would be great if these filters already created could be used to allow visibility on the other side of the spectrum. That is, to be able to see the delegates with the ā€˜most voting power’, as well as with the ā€˜least voting power’ (or with fewer delegators).

And to that I would add adding new filters. The most obvious:

  • Most recent/old delegates
  • Most active/inactive delegates

Bonus: filter by forum score or other criteria based on the quality of engagement.

In general terms, I think that increasing the diversity of filters promotes the visibility of other delegates, avoiding the concentration of power in those who already have it.

Or is there a reason for this?

@Agora @kent I just wanted to highlight that with the recent ā€œoptimisticā€ vote (where voting wasn’t required except in the case of voting against), all delegates now have a voting participation score of 90% or less, except those who voted against that upgrade.

I think it’s clear that we should ignore optimistic votes in participation scores. Thanks!

GM! Thank you for this feedback and this is a great addition that we could definitely add.

And to your question, no, there is no good reason we don’t have these. Typically people focus on the top folks and I think it’s a great idea to focus on the bottom folks too. I will get back to you once we have implemented this!

Michael! Always great to get feedback from you.
Yes, that’s a great idea and is clearly just a bug that we will fix up quick. Appreciate you reporting it.

New on vote.optimism.io

Easier than ever to delegate: The goal is to always increase the votable supply for the Optimism community and to that end, if you are not delegated, you will get a nice Delegation Banner to prompt you to do so.

Better sorting and filtering: It’s easier than ever to sort and filter delegates based on new criteria

  • Most voting power
  • Least voting power
  • Most most delegation
  • Oldest delegation
    And more

Super Fast Participation Rates and Filters: Our Voter page is 2X faster than before and participation rates load instantly. Lots of exciting enhacements in the backend we will share more about soon.

Keep the feedback coming, and thanks @alexsotodigital for their feedback that led us to completely rebuild this feature and make it better than ever!

Hi @kent

It’s great to see feedback being not only heard but turned into real improvements. The new filtering and sorting options are super helpful. :raising_hands:

Considering the good receptivity, I’d love to suggest one more filter that could be valuable: ā€œ100% voting activity + non-top100 delegates.ā€

In fact, it might be worth considering making this the ā€˜default view’ (instead of ā€˜random’) when visiting the voters page.

IMO, that could help to:

  1. Encourage further decentralization of delegate-voting-power,
  2. Increase the overall vote pool (incentivizing new delegates by giving them more visibility)

Of course, I understand if the current random default has benefits I might be missing. Just wanted to share the idea in case it helps advance the spirit of active, distributed participation.

(Disclosure: this applies to me as a delegate :slightly_smiling_face:)

Anyway, thanks again for the great work!
