Given that we’ve gained significant traction since the airdrop, I expect lots more community members are considering putting themselves forward as a delegate. It would be really helpful to reach an idea about how often this will be, and if any limits will be put in place on the number of delegates. This post is to provide a space to discuss adding more delegates. I look forward to reading your thoughts.
Seems like ASAP to me! As far as I can tell the current Delegates have quite a bit on their plates with all the Proposals and posts they are currently trying to review - adding more now - and also clarifying the roles/responsibilities would be a good idea I think for sure.
Seems a good time for this from my POV.
Thanks for sharing Weston - glad you agree!
Old thread, but interesting thought on delegates… Is this still relevant?
I’m a relatively new delegate, and I was also invited as a guest voter on season 6. I can imagine it’s really difficult to keep people from farming an airdrop - it’s almost as if a more subtle recruitment process would make more sense. Prospective delegates may be getting discouraged in thinking that their vote of 1-5k of OP doesn’t count for much, and realizing they don’t have time to promote themselves… or how to go about promoting themselves even if they do. I wonder if @Optimystics could help as a catalyst to allow delegates to promote in a small group setting…? @DanSingjoy
I’ve been thinking about this for quite some time and I think it makes perfect sense.
I’m glad you made this reply, in fact I have observed this phenomenon, and the problem is summarised as follows
How can I better participate in governance if I’m a delegate with a relatively small number of votes?
We’ve studied many voting models in depth, and there’s a common psychological phenomenon that if a proposal seems to be a foregone conclusion in terms of the number of votes cast, then as a voter with a small delegate, it seems that the vote would be insignificant.
I’ve thought of a model where the results are not announced until the vote is closed, so that each voter doesn’t know how the other voters voted, which might be a better way to express their true feelings.
Back to governance incentives
In addition, for delegates with a small number of votes, I think there should be some small retrospective rewards for participation in governance.
In fact, this is already being done in season 6, with governance rewards for guest voters.
