Security Council Self-Nomination: L2BEAT

Organization ID: L2BEAT

Does this nomination represent an individual or organization: Organization

Please link to any contributions that demonstrate you meet the eligibility criteria outlined in the Security Council Charter:

  • Technical competency: we’ve got a lot of experience analysing all L2 systems, both scaling solutions and bridges. As we’ve been analysing Optimism since its’ inception, following all the changes and evolution, we have a deep understanding of both the current state of the system and the changes that led to the current state, and we are quite familiar with the roadmap ahead. We were also part of the previous Security Council in Cohort B.

  • Reputation: we are one of the leading projects providing information about the Ethereum L2 ecosystem, focusing on risks and security guarantees. We are also top delegates in most Ethereum L2 governance systems. Our reputation is our core and most valuable asset, and we are very careful to maintain it as such.

  • Geographic diversity: we have team members spread across several European countries: Poland, Italy, Bulgaria, Ireland, Germany and soon Spain. We’re deliberately building an international team and plan to add members living on other continents.

  • Diversity of interests. This is the only application associated with L2BEAT, and the only application submitted by any employees or affiliates of L2BEAT.

  • Alignment. we see our role as being Ethereum stewards in the L2 ecosystems, in that way we see ourselves fully aligned with Optimisms mission of scaling Ethereum and onboarding the whole world onchain in the broader Ethereum ecosystem. We always put the interests of users and the security of their funds first, and we plan to continue this approach while serving on the Security Council.

Please disclose any anticipated conflicts of interest: we are top25 delegates in Arbitrum, zkSync, Scroll, Polygon and Starknet, also smaller delegates in Hop and Uniswap, our goal however is to be present in all L2 governance ecosystems. L2BEAT members are part of security councils (or similar bodies) in Arbitrum, Polygon, Scroll, zkSync.

L2Beat has become an essential cornerstone of accountability on the Layer 2 space for the general audience. Due to the nature of their mission, they understand the limitations and compromises of different L2s more than I ever will.

Additionally, I have personally worked with @kaereste in the past on Optimism governance and believe he is more than acquainted in governance matters.

I am an Optimism delegate with sufficient voting power, and I believe this nomination should be included in the elections of this season.

L2beat has delivered this properly since Security Council inception, but I’m asking the same question to every organization applying for the Security Council:

  1. How are the signers or representatives for this position elected or selected within L2beat?
  2. How do you ensure individual accountability for actions or decisions taken in this role?

Hey @Gonna.eth, sorry for the slow reply. Regarding your questions:

  1. We don’t reveal who is the signer on the L2BEAT to improve security - to make it harder to target that specific person. Furthermore, if that is possible (there were issues past season) we would prefer to be here as a 2 out of 3 multisig composed of our team members, that way we can further increase security and liveness. If that’s not possible we will choose 1 person from our team to serve on this security council.
  2. By serving on the security council as the L2BEAT we take the responsibility of enforcing individual accountability ourselves as it is our reputation at risk here, and our reputation is our most valuable asset.

Hope that answers your questions, if you still have any doubts/concerns, feel free to ask followup questions or reach out to me directly, I’m happy to elaborate further.
