Season 6 Nominations: Grants Council

Tané Season 6 Grants Council Self-Nomination

Hi, everyone. We are very excited to have a chance to apply for a grants program’s council that certainly makes significant and important impact on the whole ecosystem. We are welcome to hear any questions/opinions/feedback via our X or the rep (Takeshi)'s telegram. Thanks!

Do you have a technical background?:

Yes. The main representative from Tané, Takeshi was a senior software engineer for Twitter and other tech startups for 8 years. He worked on frontend (mobile web application and iOS app) and backend (Scala-based API services and data analysis platform). He has currently been responsible for operating blockchain nodes including Ethereum, Avalanche, EigenLayer/DA and Secret Network and various testnets including Celestia, Avail and upcoming projects, thus he is quite familiar with how the blockchain works at each infrastructure level. He was also a product manager for 6 years before joining Tané and closely working with various software engineers and other stakeholders for building mobile applications for 30M+ monthly active users. Check out his LinkedIn profile for his detailed work experience.

He will also be supported by the team of software and infrastructure engineers as well as startup serial entrepreneurs, data analysts and researchers at Tané.

Please demonstrate any non-Optimism experience you believe is relevant to this role and/or your sub-committee:

We have experience as a delegate on

  • dYdX (also a genesis validator for its v4 launch)
  • Arbitrum
  • Lido

Especially at Arbitrum, we have reviewed all the LTIPP and STIP Bridge applications as an incentivized delegate. Please see our recent activities on the Arbitrum DAO forum.

Other than the DAO governance related experience, we believe we are fit for the role because we started as a venture/incubator fund that has invested in and supported a number of important crypto projects and have developed our views in selecting great projects to contribute to the ecosystem. The expertise should be considered quite relevant to the crafted application selection.

Have you previously served in a representative (appointed or elected) role in the Collective?

Not as a representative, but we are one of the Top 100 delegates in Season 5 and approved important protocol upgrade proposals and Mission Requests.

Please outline your contributions, and their impact, to the Optimism ecosystem to date:

As described in the previous answer, we approved a number of the Mission Requests. We were also assigned to review all Intent #4 applications as well. We also diligently joined the governance calls and contributed to the discussions in them since our involvement with the Collective.

Please describe your philosophy on what makes a good Mission Application:

A strong Mission Application should demonstrably contribute to the growth and success of the Optimism ecosystem. We believe it’s important to verify projects clearly align with the Optimism Vision and Season 6 Intents.

Mission Applications should also articulate a clear pathway towards achieving positive impact on the Optimism ecosystem. This includes explaining how the requested grants will be used, how project execution will be optimized with focused priority and limited resources, and how impact will be accurately measured. Transparent reporting mechanisms are crucial.

While evaluating individual applications is important, the overall grant portfolio should also promote diversity within the Optimism ecosystem. We value projects that bring unique values to the ecosystem more than the ones that are similar to the projects the ecosystem already has.

What types of Mission Requests do you think will help achieve the Season 6 Intents?:

We are particularly excited about the Superchain level developments and relevant grants programs to be proposed. We believe the Collective should shift focus from only being a governance body on the main chain, OP Mainnet, but to being a true collective to support the growth of the chain ecosystem by utilizing the technology that OP Labs and other participants have built.

Other than the above, we like Michale’s idea of having “micro-grants” to support projects that promote diversity and experimental challenges to further the ecosystem growth.

Please disclose any anticipated conflicts of interest:

As said in the previous section, we have been acting as delegates for other DAOs, but are not a top delegate nor hold any elected position. We will abstain from evaluations and votings on projects that our investment arm has invested in.
