# GovNFT Governance topic 3 and last!

Hi GovNFT participants!

This is the final governance thread of the program, and it’s been great seeing all of you participate and share your thoughts on various governance topics!

In this governance thread, we won’t focus on a single topic, but rather on Optimism governance as a whole. Share your insights and opinions!

Questions to answer:

  • What was your experience with Optimism governance?

  • What improvements or new practices would you like to see implemented in Optimism governance?

  • What kind of resources did you use throughout the program? Which ones were the most useful?

Remember good answers get 6 points and the most thoughtful answers will be awarded an additional 20 points. Spam or low-effort posts will not count towards the point total. You can check your points and position in the GovNFT Leaderboard!

All points will be updated by the end of the week. If you have any questions, feel free to comment on the GovNFT Help and FAQ thread or email govnftprogram@gmail.com.

Also, remember to double-check that your delegation is set correctly! Here’s how:

  1. Click on “dashboard”

  2. Make sure GovNFT races is selected. If no GovNFTs appear under the “GovNFT races” category, then you are most likely not eligible for the program

  3. Step 3 click on the NFT to see more details

  4. Click on delegate

  5. Put in the delegate’s address. It has to be done from this interface. As a reminder, you can find your chosen delegate’s address at Voter on Agora.

  6. Finally you can check the delegation being set

Thank you for all your participation so far!

Hi @Michael

Hope you are well - I’ve really enjoyed the GovNFT programme by the way - thank you for hosting and managing throughout - great job.

In terms of your three questions:

  • What was your experience with Optimism governance?

Firstly it has certainly been enlightening and I feel like I have learnt a lot - whilst I’ve been around Optimism since it’s early days with SNX and latterly VELO I guess I hadn’t appreciated the complexity of running the chain - in particularly given the expansion plans into the Superchain. Secondly, I’ve found pretty much everyone to be helpful, friendly and most of all ‘collegiate’ / collaborative in their approach. I think this is probably my biggest positive takeaway. You’re doing great things over here and keeping this kind of ethos (versus say the politics and infighting / silos that I see in TradFi where I come from) is super important. Finally - on this question - I guess I need to flag again that I’ve found the governance process flows quite opaque and hard to follow. But probably this is not unexpected in a relatively ‘young’ organisation in a ‘new’ sector.

  • What improvements or new practices would you like to see implemented in Optimism governance?

So biggest one for me - as referenced above - would be around transparency. I have found the OP Gov platform (this platform) fairly ‘clunky’ to use. I know that Discord has its limitations as have seen that the GovNERDs are moving in part across to Notion (plus delegates / voting on Agora). I think there needs to be some kind of strategy around platforms to try and simplify everything. As a result whilst I think I have a better understanding (post GovNFT programme) of how decisions are made I don’t think I am much clearer around why decisions are being taken and how this links through to overall prioritisations and roadmap. There are clearly lots of people doing lots of stuff but is this the right stuff? And can we prove this? The flipside of this is around comms - I suspect that in reality the window that we have been privileged to have as GovNFT participants has perhaps only given us a partial / distorted view of the OP world - but I still think single comms need to be clearer and more consistent across platforms - so basic ‘all singing from the same hymn sheet type stuff’.

  • What kind of resources did you use throughout the program? Which ones were the most useful?

The most useful resource to me was the opportunity to attend to four Token and Community House calls on Tuesdays. This gave me such a unique view into the way Optimism does governance. The calls are well run and strike a good balance of slides, updates and debate / discussion. As ever I think we could do better on introducing everyone so we know who is talking and what is their role / position in the overall governance programme (but that is always a gripe of mine!!). Finally - the hyperlinks provided to artefacts and documents were super helpful - although my concern again is how readily searchable / traceable these are to people.

Overall though it’s been a great experience.

As ever happy to take any questions from fellow GovNFT participants.

Thanks

I found the experience with Optimism governance highly engaging, particularly because the discussions and posts in the forum often led to meaningful outcomes, distinguishing it from other governance DAOs. The level of thoughtfulness in debates and proposals made the governance process feel purposeful and dynamic.

The Velodrome GovNFT initiative demonstrated the effectiveness of incentivizing user participation, especially in Token House calls and forum discussions. Encouraging more structured incentives for engagement could further bolster community involvement and help onboard users more seamlessly into the governance structure. Additional educational content around the dual governance system—Token House and Citizens’ House—could also deepen understanding and participation.

The most useful resources for me were the links provided in after-call posts and forum threads, which helped me catch up on previous discussions and made reengaging with the governance process smoother. These resources enabled me to fully grasp ongoing conversations and stay informed on the issues being debated. I also gained valuable insight by learning that OP governance operates through two distinct bodies: the Token House and Citizens’ House.

glad to have joined

Hey Andrew,

It will take a day or two to verify the leaderboard, then we will have a final announcement on Wednesday with the results and distribution plan.

Thank you for your participation!

Hey @andrewsuniverseL2,

Rest assured that your OP is coming. The verification took a little longer than expected, and some people delegated from their wallet address instead of the GovNFT (even though all other participation was good), so I am giving them a final chance to delegate using their GovNFTs.

The announcement will be a thread with the GovNFT tag.

Thank you and I really appreciate your patience.

Hi @Michael

Thank you for coming back - yes - I’ve been checking the GovNFT tag daily for news!

Just to confirm then - you have 100% of what you need me to do for the my OP distribution. Please can you confirm.

Also - what is the final date for the cut off please for the non-delegators? This is of course a governance task so hope it’s ok to ask some governance / process questions?!!

Thanks
