Developer Advisory Board Feedback & Ideas Thread

As a part of the Season 6 Charter for the Developer Advisory Board, one of the explicit goals is to uncover additional areas in the Collective where technical support would be helpful.

To that end, we are opening this thread as a place for the community to surface ideas for where the DAB could be helpful, especially in moving towards the Intents for Season 6.

Additionally, we have added 3 community calls to the OP Governance Calendar, with an emphasis on collecting feedback and generating ideas:

  • August 13th at 3pm ET / 7pm UTC
  • October 8th at 3pm ET / 7pm UTC
  • December 3rd at 3pm ET / 7pm UTC

All ideas from this thread and the calls will be added to our Internal DAB Idea Tracker for the team to process and work on. We’ll share updates here, as well as a full report of the ideas we explored and our conclusions before the end of the Season, which will inform an expanded Charter in Season 7.

Looking forward to hearing your ideas!

Hey everybody, we had our first DAB community call on August 13th. We discussed ideas on how the DAB could be helpful, including but not limited to its current responsibilities. Here is a summary of those ideas; if I missed yours, or if you want to add clarity, please reply! Also, an open invitation to the community: we are actively seeking ideas, and we’d love to hear from you in this thread.

Aug 13 DAB Community Call Summary

Idea 1: @alexsotodigital

  • Should be an org chart: a visual description of how the different groups are interconnected, and who you need to talk with if you want to get to know any circle.
  • Has mockup, and started forum thread.
  • What help do you need from DAB?
    • Website where you can zoom in/out, different tabs, link to contact details or calendar.
  • @wbnns: Put it into a structured data format!
  • See thread here: A case for the organizational chart

Idea 2: @katie

  • Help out with RetroPGF 5!
  • Could be a big help to any voters who aren’t super technical.
  • Aside: @tynes wanting more product support for interop.

Idea 3: @LauNaMu

  • Security Council should collab with DAB on emergency response on technical level (as not all Security Council are technical)

Idea 4: @hyperstructured.greg

  • Formal Verification: he partners with OP Labs on Formal Verification, but wants more support from the Foundation.
  • Reach out to @Gonna.eth

Idea 5: @LauNaMu

  • craft mission requests next time (responsible for talking to OP Labs, understanding roadmap, and building MRs around that)
  • @Gonna.eth suggested DAB should be in both intent 1 and 3.
  • @tynes has some ideas about interop mission requests, and Gonna would love if DAB put them up to vote.
  • Lau asks us to craft our own mission request but also to help other people crafting theirs.

Idea 6: @smartcontracts

  • DAB should be in R&D discord.

Idea 7: @wbnns

  • DAB office hours as a way to help applicants make their applications more robust.

Idea 8: @LauNaMu

  • Once grants cycles are ramped up, what are the main pain points we’ve observed not only on one of the teams but several of the teams that if addressed could increase the quality of builders in the whole OP ecosystem?
  • If we see some opportunity to build something that’s then an unlock for multiple teams, we should shout it out. Could be part of the end of season retrospective.

Hello! Thank you guys for putting this up!

I am a member of the grants council this season and was just discussing the below suggestion with @wildmolasses:

It would help if someone from the DAB looked at and commented on the code audit section for each application (if applicable) with the following info:

  • Any concerns regarding the auditor(s) or length of time between audits (based on the nature of
    the project / proposal)
  • Any additional info / clarifications we may need from the applicant to help surface potential
    concerns you may have.

I will also work with Ed and @Gonna.eth to see if we could rephrase the question prompt for the applicant to obtain more relevant info up front. The current question is “Do you have a code audit for your project?”

@danelund.eth made a great suggestion to take on an analysis project around the “success” of previous builders grants, so we can start tracking some ongoing data around whether these metrics have improved with DAB’s feedback.
