We’re thrilled to officially join the Superchain with the mainnet launch of Soneium, a Superchain network built by Sony Block Solutions Labs.

Our Vision

Soneium unlocks new possibilities for creators, enhancing fan engagement through the transformative power of Web3 technology. Our vision is to build an open internet that transcends boundaries, bridging cultural differences and bringing people into the blockchain ecosystem. On Soneium, everyone is a creator, no matter where you are or what you do. We believe in a decentralized, user-first internet that empowers individuals to create, collaborate, and thrive.

By leveraging the OP Stack and the Superchain, we aim to:

  • Support Builders and Innovators: By leveraging existing IPs from Web2 and encouraging the creation of new IPs in Web3, we empower creators and developers to turn visionary ideas into reality.
  • Encourage Creativity and Connection: We welcome applications that deepen connections between creators, fans, and web3 technology. Through initiatives like the Soneium Spark Incubation Program, we’ve already supported over 1,700 applications, with 32 innovative dApps leading the charge.
  • Scale Ethereum with Optimism: Aligned with the Superchain’s mission, Soneium contributes to Ethereum’s scalability, interoperability, and accessibility while ensuring a fairer, more sustainable digital economy.

Optimism Governance and the OP Stack are the two major pillars of the Superchain. As we advance, we’re committed to actively participating in Optimism Governance, leading new initiatives, and contributing to the ongoing development of the OP Stack. Stay tuned for updates on these efforts in the near future.

Welcome to OP chain, Soneium team!!

Hope you guys quickly address the current controversy around blacklisting and censorship. I realize a corporate chain will have different standards than other L2s. But if that is to be the case, make that clear from the beginning, so that users aren’t taken by surprise.

The question is how to protect creators’ rights while maintaining the censorship resistance.

First of all, we have published the guidelines from the day one when we launched but the guideline itself needs to be well spread. We are updating the page after receiving several feedback from the community. What we want to protect is the creator’s right and their IPs. Web3 must be a safe place for creators to onboard them from Web2 space.

Second, we chose Op Stack since Op Stack itself is censorship-resistant by nature. As Mark pointed out here. Therefore, we can say that we are trying to find the best balance between Web3 and Web2 now. At this moment, the censorship was implemented in specific RPC providers which Sony BSL is working with. This means there is no censorship in the blockchain level.
