Hello All, i’m Subli, Optimism Ambassador and leader of the Optimistic Podcast & Newsletter.

I am also part of this alliance to make this mission a success, and i’d like to share my point of view in terms on Ambassador Growth.

Community Growth
Building and growing an engaged community is a hard job. While some are focusing on Airdrop hunting, other collectives like GMX or Optimism are building one more engaged, who shared the project vision. As the community grows, some people keep shipping outstanding works and should be “Promoted” to be part of an inner circle. This brings recognition to their work as well as scalability as they can oversee the rest of the community.

Why this mission ?
I’ve been an Ambassador since end of December 2022, and i can tell you that it takes time and a lot of efforts to keep sharing the Optimism view in a consistent manner.
Consistency is key and this how the Ambassador program has been set up.

But eventhough one Ambassador has a good reach, it doesnt engage millions of users/people. So the problem is how do you scale this in an effective way ?

The Mission = The Solution
Optimism landscape has completely changed in one year. 2nd largest L2 in TVL, building on the Op stack, governance process and all of this is a lot of information for people who are either building head down their own project or for users navigating on the dozens of other chains.

How can you capture these persons ?
The Ambassadors.

They are here to share the Optimism vision and onboard users & builders.

But how to select them ?
Well, this mission is here to both share vision about RPGF and how anyone can benefit from it (and i must say, as a RPGF recipient, it could change project perspective once you know this). And also to scale the onboarding process of collective members to become ambassadors through automated social attestation instead having one or 2 persons behind their desk scrolling & evaluating all contents.

The outcome of this mission will obvisouly result in talented persons to join our small group of Ambassadors, and i can only say that i’m looking forward to this.

Finally, i think the best outcome will be in the next euphoric phase that only crypto can offer, as million of NEW users will look for where to start their web3 journey, and thousands of builders will ask where is the best chain to build.

Build now, harvest later.

Hope the delegates will see benefits of this mission and will vite for it.

Hey, ThriveCoin. When reviewing intents, I saw a number of proposals that wanted to collaborate with “Thank Optimism”.That must be a sign of your success  There is no doubt that the S4 will generate content with the intent of “Optimistic Vision.”

I want to explain the question mark in my head by proceeding through an example. Let’s say a user has prepared a Medium article about Optimism. As a result, these articles may also have a 5 -minute reading time for 25 minutes. Who is the person/committee that will determine the reward on this issue or understand whether the article will be a scam?

Hi @ismailemin, thanks for your question! It is a top priority for us to ensure rewards go to people who make truly valuable contributions. We do a lot - both on the human and technology side - to help drive the outcomes we all desire!

  1. The Alliance - a group of known, trusted Optimism contributors - chooses and helps optimize: a) the sets of contributions that drive impact (e.g. write a Medium article), b) the validations ensuring contributions had desired quality and impact (e.g. applauded by x people + reviewed by editor), and c) reward amounts once validated (e.g. x OP). The Alliance can adjust inputs at anytime based on feedback from the community and impact data.

  2. The ThriveCoin technology has five layers of bot, bad actor, and sybil protection to help ensure we’re rewarding the right people. One of those layers, for instance, is that the board can include unknown validation criteria for each contribution type to help ensure cheaters don’t get rewarded. That’s just one layer. There are five.

I hope this helps. Thank you for your question! - Daniel

@0xdilara thanks so much for your kind words - and for pointing out the power of collaboration. At its core ‘Thank Optimism’ is incentivizing new and existing Ambassadors to show off the incredible work all Optimism projects and builders have done and are doing.

We believe strongly that community is the heart - and core differentiator - of web3. When barriers fall down, strong community contributors can be lifted up. The impact is profit. And, also, the impact is greater equity: all people can be rewarded for their important contributions.

We are excited, through Thank Optimism, to show off the incredible work of Optimism builders. And we are excited, too, to find more and more ways to collaborate. In the words of one of our Alliance members (and a bunch of other people too): teamwork makes the dream work! - Daniel

Hi again! I’m Senad, one of the co-authors of Thank Optimism. I’m excited to share some of the highlights of the Alliance + ThriveCoin’s progress for our Mission this week:

  • We held another all-hands meeting with our Alliance + several sub-committee meetings this week. We also connected with and got great feedback from many community members.
  • We’ve continued rapid tech development for several Mission-specific features that will be available for launch. If the Mission is voted through, launch will be in just 10 days!
  • Based on community feedback we made many updates to the contribution path draft and starting sets of contributions. @Jrocki will be sharing updates with you soon.
  • We created a ‘Thank Optimism’ intro video to overview the Mission. This was shared in an earlier comment by @katie - thank you! For ease of finding it, it’s here too: 'Thank Optimism' Mission Intro - YouTube
  • The Alliance will soon be sharing more detailed updates on a future episode of Subli’s podcast.

That’s the high level for now. We’re excited to make this Mission incredible. I’ll check in again next week too!

First and foremost, we would like to thank you for preparing this proposal. We believe it is a proposal that perfectly aligns with Optimistic Vision. We see Public Good as a fresh perspective on funding Retroactive works.

As ITU Blockchain, we vote in favor of this mission. As ITU Blockchain, we will share the content we have created specifically for Optimism using the Thank Optimism portal. We encourage our members to individually create content within the framework of Optimistic Vision and ensure they are well informed about the Thank Optimism project.

I want to share appreciation for some of the more recent comments above, as well as all feedback shared with us personally or on other threads. On behalf of the whole Alliance, we appreciate all of your kind words, support, and feedback. We’re excited to make this one special. Thank you!

Thanks @linda. Your support means a ton to us. We’re excited to hopefully soon have the opportunity to create immense value for Optimism.

Thanks @itublockchain. We believe student-led Blockchain clubs - like yours, those at USC, Purdue, and all over the world - are so important for the future of web3. We hope ‘Thank Optimism’ will help open doors for students around the world to more easily create value for Optimism and the greater web3 community.

Thanks @Griff. We appreciate your kind words, and we can’t wait to see the output too. Impact = profit… and we are intent on helping drive immense impact for Optimism.

Thanks for your support, @katie. We are builders, so we can’t wait for this to be implemented too. If our Mission proposal passes, we’re just a week from launch as of today - and we’ll be ready!

As we near closer to the launch I wanted to share a bit more detail about the type of contributions that would be rewarded via our proposal:

Research Contributions:
Ambassadors do the research on a project, put it in a templated which is then validated for accuracy and substance. This template can then be used by other creators to generate their own content, creating a multiplier effect for content creation.

Content Contributions:
Ambassadors then are able to generate content from this research or do their own research to create the content for projects

Research Contributions:

  • Research artifact: retroPGF recipient

    • Compile any available online data about the grant / retroPGF project
    • How much OP did they receive
    • Describe the impact they have had on the Collective
  • Research artifact: Optimism Grant Recipient

    • Grant intention
    • Suggested timeline
    • Proposed impact
    • Real timeline
    • Impact Assessment
    • Top 2 learnings
  • Research artifact: Interview with a retroPGF recipient

    • Summary / notes from interview
    • Link to interview
    • Top 2 -3 quotes from project
  • Research artifact: Interview with an Optimism Grant Recipient

    • Summary / notes from interview
    • Link to interview
    • Top 2 -3 quotes from project
  • Validate Research Artifact (super-ambassadors only)

    • Did they copy from another already submitted research artifact? (Instant Validation Fail)
    • Is the research factually accurate?
    • Does it include enough information to generate a smol piece of content?

Content Contributions:

  • Host a Twitter Space with retroPGF and or Grant recipient

    • Minimum 100 followers
    • Minimum 10 attendees
  • Host a Twitter Space discussing a retroPGF / Grant recipient

    • Minimum 100 followers
    • Minimum 10 attendees
  • Twitter Thread retroPGF and or Grant recipient

    • Minimum 100 followers
    • 10 impressions
  • Twitter Thread retroPGF and or Grant recipient Utilizing Research Artifact

Note: The above will rapidly evolve and new contributions will be added as we go based off of our learnings. Additionally, without revealing too much we have a quality control system we are implementing to ensure low quality contributions are not rewarded

Hey. I skimmed through the discussion here. In full transparency, I had the chance to speak with the ThriveCoin team in a call about what they are building (they reached out), and one thing I really appreciated about this product is: the effort to mitigate the inevitable attempt to game an incentive system, and the thoughtfulness in trying to create something that funnels people towards real engagement in the Optimism ecosystem, as opposed to engaging for the reward and then unengaging. I think they are going about it in a very thoughtful manner.

Because this proposal already has enough votes for approval and I have confidence in the team (as well as the delegates who have taken the time to deeply engage here on the forum), I probably won’t go through the entire discussion deeply (at least not for right now).

However, I did see something in the discussion about concern for only being able to reward contributors after the 1-year lock up. My understanding is that, since 114k OP is ONLY for distribution to contributors through the protocol, that this 114k OP actually is subject to the no-sale rule, instead of the 1-year lockup. Which means it can be distributed instantly (similar to how Growth Experiments grants are distributed instantly). Please correct me if I’m wrong @lavande

@chaselb, thanks for the kind words about the product and our team. I enjoyed our conversation and shared passion around the space.

One of the subjects of discussion was about the importance of onboarding university students into Optimism and web3 in a way that is supportive, inspiring, and leads to long-term engagement. This Mission can be an easy starting point for smart, engaged, passionate students to join the community.

Additionally, thank you for bringing up the question around whether contributors must wait until the end of a 1-year lockup to be rewarded or whether rewards can be distributed much faster. Most recently, we too have gotten (non-final) feedback aligned with your understanding:

This is exciting for our team and Alliance, and it feels like an obvious win-win-win. We haven’t written an update here yet as we wanted to ensure we have final clarity about the ruleset. But as soon as we get that clarity, we will update here. Again, thanks for your feedback! - Daniel

Gm friends, wanted to share a quick reference on our friends at Thrivecoin from the perspective of a ShapeShift community member:

After researching multiple providers and considering building a similar service ourselves, ShapeShift partnered with Thrivecoin to distribute 165k of OP tokens to users with a Gitcoin passport score of 17+ that bridge, onramp, or swap on Optimism. I’d be lying if I said there weren’t a few hiccups in the first month, but that’s to be expected with any new tech. Fortunately Thrivecoin’s team was able to resolve all of the issues quickly, and the program is now running smoothly with over 10k happy (and human!) users and growing. Overall I’ve been very pleased with Thrivecoin’s platform and team, and am in favor of this proposal.

Thank Optimism

This proposal has already met the threshold, however I voted in favour. I am keen to see how this experiment adds value to the ecosystem creating equilibrium between incentivized activity and real organic long term impact.

gm Jack & frens,
Due to unforeseen circumstances, ShapeShift DAO decided to partner with ThriveCoin instead of DappBack for our OP Rewards program. The Growth Council was notified of this change at the time and approved the switch. We successfully concluded Season 1 of the program last week and are very happy to be working with the ThriveCoin team!
