Enabling $OP as a gas token on Optimism Network!

I agree, this is a really good idea :+1:

I do not see any need.

I think the proposal is greatļ¼

That would be a great utility for the token. It would technically decrease inflation.

for sure, i believe $OP will be the gas token on optimism in near future

Yes, enable OP token as gas.

I totally support the proposal.

I just want to know when?

I think I need it, too. But for some reason, Iā€™m using Ethereum. I want to know more about this. Isnā€™t there another reason?

Thank you for pointing it out!

I think there are many projects that use Ether for gas these days!! Maybe thereā€™s another technical reason?

This is exciting news for the Optimism Network! Enabling $OP as a gas token is a huge step forward for the network and will help increase the adoption and usage of the Optimism Network. The ability to use $OP to pay for gas fees is a major addition to the utility of the token and will help increase its value. The fact that users have the option to switch between $OP and ETH as the gas token is great as it gives users more choice and flexibility on the network. Additionally, the 25% gas fee discount for using $OP is a huge incentive to switch over. Overall, this is a great move by the team and Iā€™m looking forward to seeing how it impacts the network.

thatā€™s great, but i think that could not be deployed at now. ETH for gas could be better, but at last we could use OP for gas

In short, no.

The entire point is to scale eth, not to bring gains to OP holdersā€¦

Itā€™s a greedy short-term minded solution to generate ā€œvalueā€ for OP holders.
Speculators ruin everythingā€¦ This could actually have negative consequences down the lineā€¦

this sounds like a good idea, we should probably use testnet OP tokens perhaps instead

this will be greatā€¦ will help to grow the price

is it possible to use both op and eth for gas at the same time?

Price growth is going to happen regardless, so if thatā€™s the only reason for doing this itā€™s a no for me.

I think i support this! more use case for the op token = more demand = more growth!

For Everyone that think this is ā€œgreedy short-term mindedā€ you need to start thinking long term and expand your minds to the macro of this entire L2 market.
For example:
StarkNet Token is Deployed on Ethereum | by StarkWare | StarkWare | Medium
And I would like to quote ā€œthe deployed token contracts serve two of the tokenā€™s three designed utilities, namely, voting and staking. The third utility ā€” paying StarkNet fees ā€” will be discussed at a later time.ā€ People need to get their heads on straight! We are already #2 behind Arbitrum. Others in this space are going to win unless we can compete!
