I’m not tech expert, but I have heard mentioned that the Bedrock upgrade will allows other organisations to build their own L2s using the Optimism tech stack. Why this is profitable to Optimism and the wider ecosystem is that Optimism will earns fees from these ‘add on’ L2s by them using the Optimism Sequencer. This is what @MinimalGravitas was mentioning, I think. The fees earned by the Sequencer (Coinbase using it) will in turn fund future OP Grants and Public Goods infrastructure. So, if I’ve heard the news correctly, Coinbase will be building one of these ‘add on’ L2s. A Coinbase L2, Base, that’s built with Optimism tech stack. As I’m not a tech expert, don’t quote me, ha! I’ve only read the news on the CryptoCompare Newsletter, and just got my Bedrock/OP Tech Stack/Sequencer info from a single YouTube video produced by @Michael But overall, it does sound exciting, and I look forward to hearing more. **EDIT:** After just reading it myself, have a look at the Mirror article linked by MinimalGravitas. And please replace my mentions of “OP tech stack” with ‘OP Stack’, which appears to be the official jargon. ---

This is super interesting because only in the US the amount of users that will onboard decentralized infrastructures can make the whole adoption of crypto, massive. Also COINBASE is researching a lot in real world assets aka RWA so I can only see a good point of inflection for cryto massive adoption. lets see how this benefits the optimism ecosystem ---

I think this is bigger news than some people realize. If even a small % of Coinbase’s existing user base migrates to Base, it could spark an onchain renaissance of sorts. There’s probably only ~2 million active daily users across all chains. Much less across the L2 space, maybe ~100k. Coinbase has 110m verified users. If they can onboard even a tiny percentage of that user base, 2%, we’re looking at a 10x onchain user growth. Hopefully EIP-4844 won’t take too much longer to lower fees and account abstraction can hide away wallets/address and devs can make ux a lot more simple/intuitive. ---

Yeah I guess it is really good news for OP and the future of crypto. But I don’t understand why they need there build there own L2 and dont just use the original? It is just too confusing for newbies… ---

It makes a lot of sense to us. We plan on building our own chain and have it become integrated with the super chain system as well. In five years this will be the new standard for interoperability. ---

It won’t be confusing for newbies… Coinbase will hand hold them. They may have built their own L2, but they’ve built it upon the standardized OP Stack framework. In the not too distant future Optimism, Base, and every other OP chain will feel like one unified chain to the end user. ---

The future looks bright ahead for OP this is a great thing which def will bring more exposure to others & its beneficial long term. I cant wait for wat other things Optimism has but this is just the start, glad we can take part in it and contribute along as it grows n reaches new goals. ---
